Here are the details of the planned destruction of Killiecrankie Battlefield, by Transport Scotland. We show their marker pegs on the battlefield. This is the first time we can see on the ground where the new A9 carriageway go.
We walk you along the battle line of the Scottish Government Battalions. Show you the 'killing fields' where many of the 2,000 Jacobite clansmen and government troops died that day, 27th July 1689.
How Transport Scotland plan to obliterate that land for ever.
We explain in detail where some of the most intense fighting took place and how the proposals will prevent future generations from understanding this important Jacobite battle.
We need your help to get the Scottish Government and the First Minister in particular to stop this destruction. Scottish Government hold all the powers to stop this destruction.
Please tell them to stop the destruction of our Scottish Jacobite History at Killiecrankie Battlefield by:-
e-mailing firstminister@gov.scot
or by letter addressed to:-
'The First Minister of Scotland,
Unit 3 Govanhill Workspace,
69 Dixon Road ,
Glasgow G42 8AT'.

Why couldn't they just leave it as a single carriageway for just this stretch? Can't be more than a mile in length.

Have just seen your video. Thank you. I’m interested to know if this appalling destruction of the battlefield by Transport Scotland was eventually stopped or went ahead?

As things stand it is waiting on the Scottish Government ministers to make their decision public. We have done everything we can to point out what is going on. Our local MSP is John Swinney and have asked him to inform his colleagues to protect our Scottish and Jacobite History. We can't do any more than that. You might also be interested in where we believe the battle line is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dbqegBzmLJU.html Also ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Nu0z2T1etKU.html and other information on our web site www.soldiersofkilliecrankie.co.uk/ Thank you for your interest. Leanne, thank you for your comments. We totally agree with you. Can I suggest you take a look at two further videos? The fist video completed 4 weeks ago looks at the stepped ground where many men were to die that day ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Nu0z2T1etKU.html . The second video we made this last weekend which shows the evidence, archaeology, battle accounts and terrain of where the battle line was and how Transport Scotland are arguing for its destruction of the core area of the battlefield ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zPNfHO1YYKU.html . The final decision is with Scottish Government Ministers. If you want to help, two things you can do. 1). Please share these videos with others who care about Scottish history. 2) Write to your MSP member of the Scottish parliament with a link to the videos asking them as your MSP to stop this destruction happening. Only by us all working together will be able to preserve our Scottish Jacobite history. Thank you Leanne for sharing your horror at what is about to happen.

Try petitioning Historic scotland to declare the site a scheduled ancient monument. Crowdfund to bring a legal case against planning and the roads as well as getting public support by all Means of SM

Historic Scotland or as it is now called Historic Environment Scotland has tried to protect the battlefield during the early consultation stages. ALAS the much heralded 'Scottish Battlefield Protection' legislation introduced in 2010 has no teeth. Transport Scotland has all the powers to over ride everything, so long as they show they have followed 'the process'.That is why, everyone who cares about Scotland's history needs to ask the First Minister, firstminister@gov.scot to step in and stop this. Nicola Sturgeon and her government have all the powers to protect our nation's history. Please e-mail Nicola Sturgeon and ask her to stop the waste of money Transport Scotland is throwing at Lawyers to defend their poor route choice.

@JamesRattray
@JamesRattray 4 года назад
@@ebonyeyes1986 Thank you for all your effort and support, it is really appreciated. Neil Oliver has got involved with Culloden Battlefield, I don't think it has made much difference. I believe he is aware of what is going on here at Killiecrankie too (I say this as I understand through secondary sources of this). We seem to be stuck in a public sector process. By this I mean Transport Scotland is a public body, it is required to follow a process, which it is doing. The public can not influence this process, except at certain stages during the process, when Transport Scotland are required to demonstrate they have involve the public. At the recent Scottish Government Reporter lead enquiry in to the A9 and Killiecrankie Battlefield, we had the ludicrous situation of Transport Scotland (the developer) putting forward an argument defending their route choice over the battlefield, based on where the Scottish Government Army stood during the battle. I say ludicrous, as it can be shown that if the army had stood where Transport Scotland says it did, none of the musket balls they fired at the Jacobite highlanders could have landed on to the land where they were found. It also seems strange that we have a nation body, in the form of Historic Environment Scotland who are supposedly responsible for our Scottish Battlefields not being present at all at the Enquiry. So one wonders how the Scottish Government Reporter appointed to advise our Scottish Ministers on the A9 Killiecrankie Battlefield, can, when he does not have the Scottish Battlefield specialists present to consult and advise him. This Enquiry only involves the people of Killiecrankie and Transport Scotland, as all the publicly funded agencies have withdrawn their objections. These publicly funded agencies are obviously not independent as they receive their funds from central government. I hope you were able to follow that. Thank you for your support it is very much appreciated.

The archaeologists backed by a large number of metal detectorists from www.detectingscotland.com scoured the area indicated for the A9 upgrade at killiekrankie and recovered artefacts associated with the battle. This assisted them in choosing which parts to use and which parts to not use. I found a sword hanger amongst other things
@JamesRattray
@JamesRattray 4 года назад
If you are purely interested in the archaeology and nothing else - what you have done is great. It is great anyway, as we understand the battlefield a bit more. BUT the real question is - Is it right to place the route directly over the very area where the fighting took place and many of the 2,000 men died? We know where the Scottish Government army was lined up as General Hugh McKay told us in his memoirs. He also told us he issued instruction to the commanders of the government regiments to start firing when the Jacobite clans where 100 paces away. If you use both these pieces of evidence, Transport Scotland are proposing to put the new A9 carriageway right over the ground where all these men fell. We explain why in our video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4aFA_THr4QU.html at 9 mins 25 secs. Archaeology is also a developing science, who is to say what it can do in 50 or 100 years time? Why does Transport Scotland plan destroy/obliterate the very area where the two armies met?
@X737_
@X737_ 4 года назад
No I don’t believe it is ideal but at least they have mitigated against it being as bad as it could as far as is reasonably practicable. In other words going right around it and re-routing the whole road or tunneling under would be far too expensive. It’s hard to argue against that part of the road needing an upgrade but i totally get you and admire your enthusiasm for protecting this site. I just don’t see what can be done other than the archaeologists scheduling that piece of land as an ancient monument
@JamesRattray
@JamesRattray 4 года назад
@@X737_ you have not understood what we are saying. No where are we suggesting re-routing or tunneling under etc. We are saying the new carriageway should be placed right next to the existing A9 road, on the opposite side to that Transport Scotland are planning. Can I suggest you look at the video again, so we have a constructive debate about what we are saying? ALL that Transport Scotland have to do is put the road next to the existing road, on the upslope side. The existing road is there. There is a massive field on the up slope side that has already been destroyed by the first A9. Why is the new carriageway not going though this destroyed area of the battlefield? I am sorry Transport Scotland did not do their home work properly at the very start. They thought they could get away with this route despite all Historic Scotlland's advice. They have ridden rough shod through everything to do with protecting our Jacobite History, which they clearly do not see as important.

I am struck by the difference between us and the Americans. They seem to face little difficulty protecting and preserving their battlefield sites. In the UK, esp Scotland, any developer who wants to nibble away at our historic sites is given carte blanche no matter how many people resist. Given that this is a government transport project, I feel gloomy about the prospects for preservation.
@JamesRattray

It is so dissapointing that the much heralded 'Inventory of Scottish Historic Battlefields' a national register listing nationally significant battlefields, has singulalry failed to give any protection. It has no teeth, just like so much our politicians tell us, it is hot air. We are asking for the road to be put on the uphill side of existing road, as opposed to the down hill side, where all the close quarter fighting took place. Please e-mail firstminister@gov.scot and let Nicola Sturgeon know your views. The only hope we feel is if we can mobilise enough people to let our government know that we care. Thank you for leaving your comments.
