Agreed. I don't see any faults on the cast's performance, only on translation differences and such. The english dub and the japanese dub are both great in different regards!
Same here, dude. Despite the renamed character names, though I don’t care and I’m seriously fine with them, the FUNimation dub for "Detective Conan" was still very great to me. Quite a pain in the @$$ it lasted 130 Episodes, all because of Low Viewership and Sales, and also the Worst ones, namely: Legal Considerations, Localization and Copyright Issues involving "Detective Conan". What the Hell?! THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE NAME, "DETECTIVE CONAN"!!! I just wish FUNimation would just Go On and Ignore the Low viewership and stuff like that, and just Dub MORE Episodes (I would pick, from Season 5, Part Two to Season Nine), and some of the Movies and OVAs. But, I know FUNimation might Rename the original Characterization names due to Legal Considerations and Localization issues. But, I’m gonna let that Slide.
Jordan2002’s Corner of Nostalgia same here!! I wished the series kept being dubbed; but maybe there’s a slight possibility of that now! Did you see that another company picked up and dubbed two detective Conan movies: zero the enforcer and “episode one” special? The voices are different, but they kept the original Japanese names! And both are out on Blu-ray now ❤️
i think the only thing the dub did wrong was the changing of names nothing else. it seemed otherwhise the same to the original wich is really amazing x3
@@gooseytantei7351 Well yeah, true x"3 i kinda needed to geht usw to some since the Dub i watched they completly left the original Names in them, so it was weird at First to hear but it is acceptable x"3
@@gooseytantei7351 same, I don’t see why people had an aneurysm just because of the name changes. Like some of them make sense (and in my opinion sound better) like Rachel and Richard having similar naming schemes.
Making me want to track down Persona 5 for my PC (own it on my dusty old ps4) and do the same since I liked the game but never got captivated by it per se. Definitely feels like that would help breathe some new life into a playthrough lol
The reason the names are English in the dub is because it was remarketed for an American audience. Plus, some of the jokes are Americanized (Serena mentioning Brad Pitt in one of the movies), so having Japanese names doesn’t make sense. I do think having the setting in Japan is in conflict with both of the above BUT it’s really not that big of an issue. I actually really like the English names, and I hate BangT’s dub version of pronouncing Shinichi.
it was also apparently possibly being planned to air on a kid's network but then they realized there was no way to market a MURDER mystery show to little kids so they just....aired it on Adult Swim but with all the changes that had been implemented when it was planned to air as a kid's series minus violence edits
@@uemochi9316 I definitely appreciate not having to see gore from the roller coaster episode. In the manga, it was evident, but the episode literally had a light beam. XD
Well in the german du they have the german namss and jokes still make sense. Japanese culture is actually a big thing in Conan, so I personally would say it is important. But I really do love the english dub voices
@@NuniPikachu You've got a great point there. I've become more conscious of certain aspects of Japanese culture after watching Conan, even though I'm Japanese. By the way, I enjoy the English dub voices too, especially Jimmy's calm voice.
They used to be so brave with dubs, then the sub elitists started screaming at them to make it more literal and now the few productions that start doing something special are seen as anomalies that people are only allowed to quietly like because they know they’ll get yelled at if they mention it out loud
I wouldve L O V E D this dub if it werent for their stupid names like Rachel for Ran okay, thats fine... BUT FUCKING JIMMY????? Hell na they did my boy Shinichi real dirty here
Playing devil's advocate here, if they absolutely HAD to Americanize all the names, then they're left with very few options. As you said, Rachel for Ran is reasonable but what do you do with a name like Shinichi? Sean? In that respect, I kind of almost admire them going in a whole, completely unrelated direction with a name like Jimmy. At least it'd synch with the characters' lip-flap (mostly).
@@Unownshipper no no O totally get the americanization in these, it's just... Of all names for him, they chose "Jimmy". Heck they could've named him idk, Sheldon? Sonic? Sam?? Theres plenty of names that wouldve suited him better...
Really like the dub and their english names. But only up to episode 132 then they switch back to their original japanese name for episodes 900 and up. Probably because of new voice actor so still pretty sad about that. Cuz I like the old english names better and voice actors
See all of Ran, Togo, Eri etc. where names originated from Japan in other words they were Japanese names So for the Dub they needed to change the Japanese names into English names so that is why Ran is Rachelle and Togo is Richard because they speak english so it would've sounded a bit weird
I really like the dub! They changed the names, sure, but if you can get past that it’s really charming! There’s so many funny moments and lines. Most of the cases w/ Japanese elements are changed slightly for audiences to understand, but I’m even fine with that!
This dub was my childhood before i knew what Anime really was, along with dbz sailor moon and digimon and pokemon of course. Pretty sure this show spurred my obsession with mysteries and murder shows
