The Detroit Lions secondary with Terrion Arnold, Ennis Rakestraw, Brian Branch, Kerby Joseph, Carlton Davis III, Ifeatu Melifonw and more is scary good. / steezbreakdowns
How do people not get it? They don't like to repeat their mistakes. They got a couple quality staters last year and then hit other needs. Then they all got injured and they had no one to step up. Now they get their starters, and if they go down, they have another group of starters ready to take the torch. Brilliance
@@robbie5010He was going through growing pains with a defense that had a lot of holes. By mid-season, he got the scheme down to a tee by disguising blitzes and prioritizing pressure with linebackers. The D-Line was great even with a lack of talent. Glenn has a good group to work with now and it will be fun to watch how they play
Rakestraw is an outside corner only. He is NOT a slot, nor should not play it. He is an outside man cover corner. Arnold is the much better option at zone and slot. If they choose to send Branch to safety. He’s also the better run defender of the two.
Probably the most overlooked player i believe is Mr Maybin excellent special teams example for the rookies, plus when he’s on the field there’s not too many places the football can hide from him!
The constant being Anzalone & McNeill up the middle w/JRM & Jacobs. Definitely not a bunch of bums but please continue. Alex is the Jared Goff of Glenn's defense
Here is how I see the starting lineup. OCB's = Davis and Arnold. SLCB = Robertson, Safety's = Joseph, Branch, Melifonwu. Branch can also play slot along with Robertson at times. Rakestraw is going to be extra CB for slot or outside. Mosely is just excess CB. If he can play.
If you add in all of the draft picks Brad Holmes has done for the defense is 65% of the draft picks. We had a great FA for the secondary. And now first 2 picks were CBs. AG has no excuses now. He needs to get it going by game 6. No Excuses now.
Carlton as #1 and Terrion as the #2 is crazy and hopefully Terrion and Ennis show enough throughout the season where Carlton can walk and we can have those as our future outside corners for next season with Branch in the slot, Kerby over top and Iffy blitzing from that safety spot 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Terrion is a very complete CB prospect, I believe he'll start at CB2, I think Rakestraw has the potential to become our nickel CB, if he can we move Branch to SS fulltime and we keep Kerby at FS leaving us with Iffy as our primary backup safety. I believe Amik and Moseley won't see the field a ton and if one does it will be Amik until Terrion gets the nod. Moseley to me will be used some games if he is finally healthy and 90% of what he was in San Fran, Moseley is straight line fast and could be used if our opponents have a 4.3 burner that is problematic. Overall we are in the best spot I can remember regarding our secondary going back 30 years. We have Some good vets, young guys who already are showing good game tape, and promising rookies along with strong depth and versatility.
Just as long as our passing D can be top 15 we will be fine. Our run D was #2 last season. It will be probably #1 this season. And if we can just not have as many injuries this season on defense we should be straight.
The secondary is definitely upgraded but I'm restraining my expectations. 2 of our CBa are rookies and it takes a little while for things to click for a rookie CB, sometimes it takes a couple years like it did Darius Slay, I loved when we drafted him but I knew it might take awhile to adjust. Carlton can be a good CB but he's dealt with injuries the last couple years. Amik is pretty good but he's a little small but hes dynamite in a small package. Don't forget about Mosely, I was really excited about him last year but now he really hasn't played much in a long time so it may take him awhile to knock the dust off and he may never be the same so while we have good depth, I'm not going to expect top tier play just yet but my hopes are high and I think it should be an improvement from last year
That’s not always the case some guys just have it and it would be lovely to have immediate impact from both but I think I would much rather see them coming along mid season when those games count and in the playoffs
Completely addressed a obvious weakness. too many games we allowed teams big passing yardage down field. that ends NOW, and helps your front 4 and LB's as well. 8:41
Iffy and branch were the 2 best dbs in the league in impact on a percentage per snap basis statistically. And we just added 4 more dogs and got cj moore back. If f'ing stokkkked
I honestly think if they can get Lions at least Top 16 Secondary play, the Lions can win any game with their already good Run D, Pass Rush, Offense, and STs.
I have been a Lions fan for most of my life. And most of it has been a soul crushing experience. I have deeply enjoyed the last couple years but lets keep things in perspective. I HOPE their secondary is as good as it looks on paper but the truth is that neither rookie has ever stepped on an NFL field. The NFL is a different world from college. Lets be encouraged by what they've done but lets see how they perform against NFL competition before we call it one of the best secondarys in the league.
The beauty of it is is that the Lions acquired and signed CB's before the draft ......so Arnold or Rackstraw isn't ready they have guys that can step in......
That’s wild 😭🤣🤣🤣 5 seconds 😭😭😭 ain’t have nothing to say about Amik is absurd work lmfao he probably has the second most turn overs on this list just a heads up you should probably go do your homework on 21 hahaa
Don't know about scary good.. Arnold and rakestraw haven't played yet so their going to be growing pains and if don't win the SB or don't win the NFC championship.cant ve scary
If you think Rakestraw is better than Arnold you smoking something lmao! Not saying he's not a stud but naw Arnold was the number 1 corner on lions board for a reason
Dude, I normally enjoy your content but you made alot of mistakes in this one. On no planet is Moseley starting. Coaching staff has already made that very clear. Brian Branch will be starting at safety, Glenn already said they were moving him to safety. Joseph or Iffy will start at the other safety depending on who we play. Rakestraw will start in the slot, and Arnold will start outside opposite Davis. Moseley is going to end up getting cut, you dont comeback from both ACLs tearing. At the very least he wouldnt be the same player. They are giving him a shot sure but when space is needed for actually useful players like some of our UDFAs he will be gone.
1:06 let’s not forget that’s against Geno f*cking Smith! Aaron Glenn is alright, but I think that he gets a pass too quickly by most. The Lions didn’t have a terrible secondary last year but you would’ve thought they were the worst ever. What’s the excuse for not being able to defend against a mobile/rushing QB?
Get outta here our secondary was the worst in the NFL, that’s not to say we don have a few good players but we lacked talent at the outside CB positions. It’s not all on Glenn. Also Geno Smith is one of the trickiest QB’s to defend against in the NFL.
@@joshuawilliams2447 What an idiotic thing to say 😂😂 Not only did the Lions win the division last season 😆 they also got a lot better defensively. 🤣😂🤣😂 Plus...the North this year has 2 rookie QB's and a 2nd year starter 😝😝😝😝😝😝 You're full of 💩💩💩💩 and you know it
Sorry Aaron Glenn is HORRIBLE! Jared Goff told both Dan Campbell and Glenn that he would torch the Lions Dee day one running that lame Saint's Blitz scheme. This is exactly what the entire NFL has done to Detroit last 3 years. Glenn also benches the Lions best including Malcolm Rodriguez & James Houston so Brad drafted two forcing Glenn to have to start 1 of the two rookie CBs. Aaron Glenn is why the Lions didn't win the Super Bowl last year. Glenn will probably make a good HC but he STINKS as a Def Coor.
