I'm with you on everything except low balling Cade. Not only will you piss off your franchise player, but think about what that would say to ANY potential free agent. It would be a tough sell coming here anyway, but throw in the fact that you don't take care of your star when you get the chance and you have a real issue getting ANYONE'S attention.
Low balling Cade?????????? absolutely NOT. Cade's ceiling is still annual MVP contention. As an organization we haven't done much right so don't screw this up. Look at Detroit Lions, they took care of their top players without pause which tells all their young players and/or free agents that if you ball out in the D they will take care of you. As a Pistons fan I'm grateful we have Cade as we don't have much else.
Cody is my pick too. I also would over extend on Patrick Williams to try and sway him away from Chicago giving Pistons 2 3&D forwards Via Cody & Patrick who shoot 40% from the perimeter to compliment Cade & Ivey.
@AgTheDonn Cody Williams is my biggest “boom or bust” pick. He wasn’t the best player on his team and often disappeared on the court. He lacks the type of motor and assertiveness that will earn him minutes. I would be ok with him if Detroit then goes out and gets a veteran SF to come off the bench until Cody is ready likely later in the season if not the following season.
Zack Eddie will give you 20+/12/3 and can put a body on players. Solidify you down low alongside Duren. They will both make each other better as well. Just need develop your outside shooters, but when you have that much rebounding down low it will inevitably improve.
@LavaDesert If you win the odds on that bet for Zach Edey’s production then you will be a rich man, my friend! NO-ONE is expecting that from Edey. He can be effective but I can’t see him as more than a 20-min per night player because he can get ran off the court in transition and exhausted getting dragged out to the perimeter perpetually. If the Pistons don’t bring back Wiseman, Edey wouldn’t be a bad look.
I like bringing back Fontecchio, Grimes, Umude, and Wiseman, but Metu isn't an NBA player. Umude is a solid reserve piece. Wiseman has more to develop but won't be more than a bench center in the league at best. Let Fournier, TBJ, and Flynn walk, but I don't agree with giving Cade less than a max. He deserves it and he has literally zero reason to take less money. He's not gonna say, "Yea I was injured, I understand." He's an All-Star caliber player on a team that has no leverage. They need to pay him, or he's gone. Tobias Harris would probably be an awful signing unless they somehow get a contract under $30 million, and we should add to the bench. Maybe Taurean Prince? Wesley Matthews might be a good vet presence but he offers basically no production these days, just like Taj Gibson (who should become a coach at this point). No matter what, this team will not be good with Monty Williams. He is a generationally horrible coach.
@cameron3934 Metu always feels so promising with his size, athleticism and shooting, but you may be right, he’s bounced around the NBA a lot for someone so early in their career and that’s not a good sign. I think they fill that SF role through the draft, I doubt Taurean Prince will take on that role in the prime of his career unless they grossly overpay him.
Dude you act like bringing back this exact same.squad is going to improve us by 10-15 wins. Like you said, each player may be talented in and of itself, but when you mix them together, like a recipe, you get a disgusting meal that don’t taste good or sit well with your stomach. You need to mix up the ingredients & cook a different tasting meal. And no Cade is not going to take a discount like you wish. That starting 5 you mentioned at the end is not it. Asuar can’t shoot & needs to come off the bench until he proves he can shoot. Stewart is a bench player, so you need to go out & trade/sign a border line all star at the 4 & 3. Go & get you a Miles Bridges or Ingram & pair him with a Malik Monk or Kelly Oubre Jr. Now you cookin. Cade, Ivey, Monk, Bridges & Duren Bench: Sasser, another backup 1, Grimes, Simone, Asuar & Stewart. Maybe bring back Wiseman on a minimum extension.
@jesus1 Those guys struggled to gel because of the constant changing of the starting lineup, give them a full training camp to gel and I think you see something different. As for Monk and Bridges, no and why (rhetorically asking). Bridges is NOT a winner and is not who you attach your team to “turn things around”. Monk and Ivey are the same player practically and that starting lineup would get DESTROYED in the NBA.
I hear you when it comes to not having a full training camp & season to gel due to the constant meddling of the players from Monty. That bothered me so much how he did Ivey. That said, Monk & Ivey are not the same players. Ivey’s biggest issues is his dribbling & shooting. All he can do is go up & down, but cannot take a player off the dribble going right or left. That’s why he’s not as good as his peers playing the same position. Ivey still to me is not a reliable shooter anywhere on the court, not just behind the 3. He may get it someday, but right now he can’t shoot, period. Monk can spot up & shoot, something we don’t have enough of. As far as Bridges, he may be toxic or he may just be the style of 4 we need to compliment Cade. That’s a gamble but we have to acquire talent bc we’re not seeing borderline all stars walking through that door to suit up & play for us. Based on last season, we need to take that risk bc continuing the same process the last 4 yrs ain’t getting it done. I rather take a chance on Bridges than overpay for Tobias given his age & limited skill set.
Hopefully the Pistons get the right pieces from free agency/trades that complement their core and not get a Miles Bridges or Zach Lavine to be their savior.
@@therockneverstops8261 same here. Thanks for posting these videos. I didn’t fully watch the Pistons this past season. I don’t get a chance to watch their games since I live in Florida but I’ve had frustration with the team mainly because of the long losing streak and injuries that ruined their season plus lack of experience of playing for Monty Williams although they are developing chemistry. I’m excited tough for next season for the reasons you’ve mentioned.
was is this hype w 35 yr old klay Thompson n his 30+ mill he would want??? were just trying to win 30-35 games next yr....klay gotta be going to a team that wants to win it all...give me monk or trent jr...as far as cade he is gonna have to play point fwd sooner then later...as he fills in and gains 10lbs its gonna be tough to go end to end w Brunson, donovan, fox, etc
@douglasmargitza1210 Monk and Trent are looking for starting roles and I don’t think either will take the place of Cade and Ivey at this juncture. Off the bench I still like the Sasser/ Grimes University of Houston connection back court. Those two will be dogged defenders and shot makers bringing a HUGE boost for this team’s bench along with Fontecchio and Wiseman. As for Cade, he definitely needs to get stronger to maximize his style of play and likely Ausar and Ivey will hold down perimeter defense on the other team’s best scorers.
@therockneverstops8261 it's a difference between a "vet" & Taj Gibson. It's time or him to join a coaching staff. He's entirely too old (nba years) to be getting picked up on rosters
Are you thinking Donovan Clingan out of UConn? I can really see that working. As much as I am still optimistic about James Wiseman, Clingan could be a really effective reserve.
Zack Eddie will give you 20+/12/3 and can put a body on players. Solidify you down low alongside Duren. They will both make each other better as well. Just need develop your outside shooters, but when you have that much rebounding down low it will inevitably improve.
Cade Cunningham Klay Thompson Asuar Thompson Matas buziels Jalen Duren Jaden Ivey Luke kennard Andre Drummond Simone fontacio Isiah Stewert Even fournia Marcus Sasser This should be our team going in the season Then all star weekend comes before trade deadline we trade Isiah Stewert Marcus Sasser Simone fonatico two 1st round draft picks for jalen Johnson or Brandon Ingram
I don’t see the Pistons being willing to trade anything that the Pelicans would want to send Jones. Isaac isn’t bad but that crowds the front court a bit, unless you don’t plan to re-sign Wiseman but Isaac’s injury history doesn’t scream dependable. I wouldn’t be mad at Klay in a reserve role but I wouldn’t start him over anyone and I can’t see him taking on a reserve role on a 14-win team. Plumlee may be a nice reserve but kind of meh…
@yahisthoth9182 Why trade Sasser? Grimes is a poor man’s Dante DiVencenzo. There was a reason he was starting for Tom Thibbedou on the Knicks before getting injured. A bench back court of Sasser and Grimes could be magic with both of them coming from the Univ. of Houston and similar culture of play could increase the team’s chemistry in the first training camp together.
We need talent, bringing back the same players from the worst team in the league and expecting dramatic change isnt enough. Cade aint taking no discounts on his first time big payday as a good former 1st overall pick. Metu can't shoot, don't need old taj gibson to play any minutes. Dont need any Centers that cant play defense (wiseman or duren). Ivey is a sieve on defense. Need to keep players that play both sides of the ball. Keep Cade, Grimes, Fontecchio, Ausar, Stew (as a 5) and trade away whoever it takes to bring in another scorer (Murray or BI) and sign a FA defensive bigman (Claxton or Hartenstein).
@stevenhudson7591 I am doing a mini-series on these players and how talented they all are. Going into training camp to build continuity will have HUGE gains. I definitely concede that Cade doesn’t need to take a discount. Extending for the Max now before making an all-star or all-nba roster already saves the Pistons money in the coming seasons when he is. Taj Gibson doesn’t need to play as much as the expectation to teach and encourage the young big core of Duren/ Stewart/ Wiseman. I think the young guys, including Ivey/ Duren/ Wiseman are bought in on defense but lack the continuity and experience to excel on that end. Ausar, Stewart, Sasser, and Grimes can already be defensive aces that maintain the intensity on that end for a full season with the vets to stay on them if/ when it wains..
@@therockneverstops8261 I get liking the young talent on this team but there's no place for poor defensive centers in the starting lineup unless they're ELITE offensively which Duren and Wiseman aren't. There's no path to winning with your defensive "anchor" sinking you defense. It's been like 10 or 15 years since we had a playoff win, we need to start winning ASAP (especially before Cade asks to be traded away). We disagree but this is great content, keep it up!
@8581scott Ivey is certainly NOT trash scoring over 30-points 4 times and over 20-points over 20 times. What is trash is his efficiency. In my opinion, he has Westbrook-syndrome, he does not read the game fast enough for the amount of responsibility that comes with being a primary scoring option of lead guard. Ivey would be best as a 3rd option that can give you 22+ppg on really good efficiency without giving him more responsibility. He needs Cade to get his efficiency up to be that steady hand and likely Ausar to develop into an efficient point forward and those two can set Ivey up. I would even prefer to run more offense through Duren and have Ivey play off of them in a movement based system because this team has quite a few more than capable facilitators.
@Hilltop238 I wouldn’t be mad at Tyler Smith, he has a great looking shooting stroke and but also feels more of a perimeter big than being able to play both inside and out, what is your take? I would rather sign Jalen Smith from the Pacers to play that role and draft someone like Matas Buzelis or Rissachere from France.
@@therockneverstops8261 Exactly I'm with you on those ideas hopefully Zach still on the board at 5, Matas I kind of scratch my head about he's a step slow. Also we already have a Castle in Ivey. Knecht or Dillingham I would back those picks also
You are 100% right Young guys should not be traded(Ivey Cade Duren Ausar) they were not the problem it was roster construction and coaching staff that should bear the blunt of the blame Cody Williams is pick for me at 5 Stew should be backup 5 used as pick pop center Tobias Harris and Tyus Jones would be awesome gets in off season
@teezzz9645 I wouldn’t be mad at Tobias Harris but having him in the frontcourt next to Duren significantly weakens the starting unit defense. As for Tyus Jones, I don’t want to take the ball out of Marcus Sasser’s hands off the bench.
The last time we saw Tobias Harris, he scored 0 points in an elimination game at home. This guy has been getting massive contracts from teams for years. If this dude wants more than 15 - 17 million a year, he can kick rocks. Otherwise the Pistons would be better off using their cap space on guys like Gary Trent Jr. or maybe Hartlestien from the Knicks.
Miles Brisges, and Gary Trent Jr… retain Fontecchio, and Grimes … they have money to spend and have to spend it … go get someone decent that can competent Cade and crew …
@mrfortwash Miles Bridges is a player you will regret giving $30mil to when you get to the playin/playoff rounds. You can get what Trent brings with Quentin Grimes. Yes, they have to spend the cap but they should do so wisely. Definitely retain Fontecchio and Grimes, then re-sign Wiseman and with the rest bring in a crew of veterans to act as player-coaches who can speed along the development of the young core. I like Taj Gibson, Wesley Matthews and PJ Tucker.
@@therockneverstops8261 Doesn’t have to be a long deal … plus you have the money and I’d rather give it to a young and proven player then a bunch of projects (Wiseman) and/or washed up players like a Tobias Harris etc … just using those players as a reference
