I remember the day he took his life. It was in the news. It's not true that few in country music noticed. He may have not been a big record seller by then, but he was still a legend. Very sad.
I’m 33 and love him. I was 5 when passed. The man is still one of favorites. As long as I’m breathing, he’ll never be forgotten. Passing it down to my 14 year old son.
Yes I remember that day. I was in a country band and I sang four in the morning when he walked into the venue I was playing. He told me damned good job. Truly a loss to country music. Miss him and bless him.
Faron Young was a great country singer. He had a wonderful life and a fantastic career. He made great music. My favorite song is Down by the River. It's sad how he died. Respects to Faron Young.
Faron Young had such a Beautiful voice! I grew up listening to his records! He was so Handsome! What a shame he committed suicide! I love his voice and I still listen to his songs❤️❤️❤️
I admit I learned about Faron Young when watching Ken Burns documentary Country Music. He stuck up for Charlie Pride, a young African American singer, breaking into Country music back in the 1960's(may have date wrong). Faron & Charlie remained lifelong friends🥰
Good for Faron for supporting Charlie Pride. I remember when he came on the scene. He had such a great voice and wrote and sang so many good songs that I don't think many people held his race against him. You could only hear him on the radio, and he was so good. Everybody initially assumed he was white. People were surprised when they found out he was black. Regardless, Charlie Pride had a long and successful career, and deservedly so. The only hate Ray Charles ever got for going country was from black friends. "Modern Sounds in Country Music" was a huge album success for Ray Charles. And it was white people who bought it.
Faron was instrumental during the early yr of his career PROMOTING. CW music A dynamic performer who helped Charlie Pride get accepted by other artists who valued Faron s word. Thank you for keeping his music Alive. Craig Morris
@@gordonipock9385I think Charlie used to say to the audience at shows when he first started, “Don’t let this all-over tan fool ya’…” He charmed the heck out of them.
Always loved his song Wine Me Up. Didn’t know of his suicide until many years later. Same with Gary Stewart. Didn’t know he killed himself until one day I did a Google search to find out why I hadn’t heard any new music from him. Both were great artists.
I have alway loved Faron Young’s songs. He had a terrific voice. I didn’t know that he had committed suicide. So sad. He was not given the recognition he deserved.
Faron Young's initial version of "Hello Walls" is the best country music song ever recorded. Superb interpretation and delivery of the lyrics of a finely crafted song by Willie Nelson. Faron's voice was never so perfect on anything else.
You must not have listened to many of his songs, for example the flip side of "Hello Walls" "Congratulations" is just as good or even better than Hello Walls, and i love Hello Walls myself, but give a listen to "Congratulations, also written by Willie Nelson, and all of his other songs here on RU-vid, you might change your opinion. Just Sayin' you know.
That's a horrible feeling depression and if you're not surrounded by the right people suicide feels like the only solution. Mental care was still a gamble back then too so a lot self medicated then commit suicide.
Yes, Faron did commit suicide. He was very sick, and needed a way out; sad but true. I miss Faron Young, not many people mention him, anymore. He is gone, and is no longer in pain! I Ioved him. I wish he knew he was deeply loved.💔💔💔💔
I love his music! He was a good looking man too so was a big heart throb. He had alot of big hits and was on TV shows alot. It was so sad when he passed away. Such a loss of talent and a real personality!!!!
I grew up listening to Faron, Ray Price, Hank Snow, Johnny Cash, etc, when it was called country and western. Fame has its rewards and curses, sadly Faron succumbed to the curse.
Faron Young to me was a cool singer! I always liked too hear his music. I'm 65 and when I hear his music it takes me back to our black and white TV listening to the Grand Ole Opry, The Wilburn Brothers , Porter Wagoner and others. My brother Faron Young I never new that he had committed suicide , but be that it may I still like to hear his music. I missed the verse on Barbara billingsley if you get a chance could you slide it back so I can see what was said about her costume. But keep the history coming so I can find out what I never new okay.
I didn't know he committed suicide that's a shame I loved his voice and all his work and songs I met him with my friend at Conway Twitty's house in June of 1985 , he was such a nice guy I didn't know who he was at the time he introduced himself to me and my friend talked to me and my friend about how he and Elvis learned to water ski what a funny and great story. He took pictures with us signed autographs and was a totally Wonderful and friendly gentleman. After I met him I started to listen to his music and began to become a huge fan ,I didn't know he killed himself I pray GOD has mercy on him for that ,I would love to see him some day in heaven, I've met a lot of stars over the years none of them as nice as Faron was ,Conway , wasn't even that nice when I met him.Faron had just as much talent as any of them and very humble and kind as well. I will always remember how Faron treated me a nobody like a somebody . May Faron Young rest in peace in the Presence of Our LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST YESHUA AMEN!
Faron was a big deal in the 50s and early 60s. Similar career to Webb Pierce who had hit after hit from 52 to 62 and then fell out of favor and into obscurity. The wonderful Stonewall Jackson also struggled to remain relevant after the mid-60s.
Even though I never met him I LOVED ❤️ HIM! He is DEFINITELY one of the people I hope to meet In Heaven 😇 I only wish he knows how others truly appreciate his contribution to Country music.
I met Faron Young at the Main NCO Club at Ft. Bragg and what a humble man as well as a fantastic singer and entertainer. My prayers are with his family and the country music fans who loved him as I did.
Faron had balls. He boldly stood up for African-Americans trying to break into country music (most notably the great Charlie Pride) while most everyone else... though not outright approving of how the African-American singers were treated... didn't take a bold personal stand like Faron. It's shameful that he passed away without much note.
I remember listening and watching him as a small child. Reasons I remember him is the strange first name "Faron" and the fact my parents watched Grand Ole Opry and various other similar programs. Wasn't aware he committed suicide. 🥺
Also watched Grand Ole Opry, except at my grandparents. Theirs was one of the only TVs in the neighborhood, and a few young women/girls would come to watch. They would "drool" over Faron Young when he was on. Did not know about the suicide.
What a sad ending for such a perfect country singer, one of the best in my opinion. I seem to remember a story where Willie Nelson was stoney broke and needed 200 dollars and was going to sell the rights for his song, hello walls, to faron for the said amount, faron knowing how much Willie would lose out on the future revenue, lent Willie the 200 dollars instead of buying the rights to the song, I think I have that right, from my memory of a great 8 part country music show on TV a few years back.
So incredibly underrated today....used to be everyone in Nashville had a Faron story.....but that was when most of Nashville was actually Country🙄 He was a fantastic entertainer & personality, who's talent matched and exceeded his larger than life persona. He's the poster boy for Murder On Music Row, every faux Country singer who's appropriated the genre, record exec and industry big wigs who 86'd the Legends, and radio helped pull the trigger that took his life
Yes we noticed along with millions of others. We loved Faron’s music until the very end and went to most of his concerts. You have done a great disservice to a great country singer, as far as I’m concerned. There is no need to destroy a person’s reputation after they have passed.
A real country country singer, born and raised on a dairy farm near Shreveport Louisiana. Got his start as a singer with Webb Pierce's band (as did the Wilburn Brothers) in the early 1950's on the Louisiana Hayride. Faron presented himself as a songwriter but Webb recognized he was really a better singer. Young also owned the Music City News produced in Nashville. It was the country version of the Rolling Stone magazine. This was in the 1970's. Young was well known for speaking his mind. On a late night show fellow guest Zsa Zsa Gabor made a remark about his "peasant music"
I knew he was drinking when my best friend invited me to a concert at the VFW and he was half drunk when we got there. Her friend was in the band and we got invited to get on his bus. I was able to get some photos of him and me but after drinking for a while he went to the front of the bus and ped all over his bed. We left after but I did get an autograph. Before we had the time of our life. My memories are of the great man he was and I always will love him RIP my champion
Yes I did know, also know his Ashers were scattered over old Hickory Lake at Johnny Casher's home, It was very sad to lose a singer like Faron as he had a great Country voice and I still play his music today. I'm not American I'm Australian, But love all the OLD country music, Sorry to say commercial country today is just POP. Thanks for your facts, Enjoyable.
I was back stage with Faron Young a few times back in my Country Music DJ days. He was a great story teller and a genuine good person. His story on how he helped Willie Nelson when Willie was getting started was a classic. Faron was a great singer and performer and it's a shame he had to leave us that way.
Fiddler Johnny Gimble told the story that he was in a recording session in Nashville on the night Faron Young died. He said, "We were in the middle of a session, and someone came in and told us that Faron Young had just blew his brains out. Everybody was stunned. We all stopped what we were doing, and just stared in disbelief. The whole room was in shock and there wasn't a dry eye among us. It was beginning to look like the session was going to break up. Finally, I broke the ice and said, "Well, he always was a good shot!" That comment had everyone laughing though we were all crying. We were finally able to get back to cutting some records. It sounded crass but the truth is every one of us in that room had been hunting with Faron out on his property many times and we all knew what a great marksman he was. Even if he was stone drunk, he could shoot the acorns out of those squirrel's mouths. That was a sad day. We all knew he was very sick with emphysema and the latest word was the doctors had found a spot on one of his lungs. He was in a lot of pain physically and emotionally. He'd lost his wife, lost his recording career, went bankrupt and lost his house. He was financially broke, and he just didn't feel he had anything left to live for."
If he would have come to the Southwest, it may have been different. Faron's popularity NEVER let up here in Texas. When played by dance bands out here today the dance floors fill up wall to wall!! I took my wife to one of his dances on our first date in 1973. We're still dancing to all of his music today. For sure, nashville is the major problem!
What is really hard to deal with sometimes is, our favorite performers were not necessarily great people. Faron Young was not great people. He was an outstanding performer. He clearly had addiction problems, and behavioral problems. Neither of those things prevent me from enjoying his gift to us. Would it be proper to hate van gogh, because he was nuts? Well, I suppose you could, but that's not my point. What I'm getting at is that if you really appreciate this man's contribution, do not deny the reality of his life because it doesn't fit with you comfortably. Sometimes life is not pretty. And please don't get me wrong, I listen to Faron Young songs every week. I've had standing ovations doing karaoke of his songs. Brilliant art.ists are often tortured Souls. It's a human condition.
I was introduced to Faron Young when i attended a concert when i was living in San Diego. I thought he had a very nice quality voice and i bought several albums subsequently. I didn't know how he passed nor about "domestic" challenges; however it is had to make a living in the music business as a performer and we all understand the challenges of "domestic" relationships.
Glad to know that you had a chance to talk to Faron! Thank you for sharing your life story. What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
I think I may have heard of him. Not sure. I wasn't into the country seen though. I sure hate to hear that about someone..as a musician the music is crucial in this life..great video 2thumbs up.
Sadly I did hear through RU-vid, at that time of his death. I consider Faron the #3 greatest country singer ever, behind Jim Reeves, and Marty Robbins, and George Jones very close behind them.
I was born In 1967. My parents listened to diverse music but we never heard of Faron young. I did not know of his suicide either nor heard any of his songs even by other artists. I am so sorry for him or anyone who thinks suicide is the way to go. It only hurts people around you.
I am so sad to say that I was not aware that Faron Young had committed suicide ! How extremely sad that the music industry allowed this tragedy to go without saying much about it ! Thereby, almost supporting Faron's belief that he didn't have a place in the music industry anymore ! Almost by their silence, silently encouraging his actions ! Maybe I'm terribly wrong about this ! Speaking of going unnoticed, the loss of "Herbie" Herbert, one of the most prolific music promoters of our lifetimes ! Walter James Herbert left this world with hardly a mention ! "Herbie Herbert was responsible for the creation of, and the promotion of, no less than Santana, and one of the most incredible rock bands on f our lives, " Journey " without so much as a mention on the nightly entertainment shows ! These are significant lives folks ! Whether by natural means, or by their own hand, we should without question make more of an effort to mark the significance of these lives, and likewise, their passing !
He's immortalized in a Prefab Sprout song from 1984,......... English music press heroes. "You give me Faron Young in the morning......" Or something like that.
I was Postmaster of Old Hickory Post Office close to where Faron lived. He came into the post office almost everyday. Sometimes he would knock on my door and started laughing wanting to tell me some "off colored" jokes he had recently heard. He was smiling and laughing almost everytime he came in. The last day Faron came in to the post office, his face was gloomy looking and he didn't seem to be in his normal self. He never said anything and left. Later that day we learned that he had committed suicide. It was a terrible loss to the country music industry I feel as they had shunned him off the Opry for his drinking. He will be missed but his music lives on.
Kathie says…I did not know this…I have never heard about his cancer. He was definitely a troubled soul. Drinking solves nothing, and suicide isn’t the answer…it destroys everyone who loves you.
Faron had a young back-up/harmony singer named Donnie Young. You can see them together doing the song "face to the wall". If you don't recognize the name, you will when you play the vid.
You didn't mention his accident that caused him to not be able to make the s sound anymore. He was a great favorite of mine. He had some fabulous songs
I knew his music, remember when he died, I was 19 years old and watched a lot of TNN and collected country music magazines one of which was music city news that I Believe Faron had started in the 60’s
I heard about it right after the suicide , but just maybe because I recently got turned on to him, and was basically on a Faron Young kick at that time. I was unaware his death went unnoticed by the Country Music crowd, and this information (if true), shocks me. I'm predominantly a jazz guy, but all "Country Classic" aficionados and musicians should have noticed, at least in my book.
Yes, I knew . It was a sad day for country music & his family. I saw when he was first getting started at Ellis Auditorium In Memphis, Tn. Bought a picture & he signed it for me. Always loved his music. Still do. Such a waste.
I read that he couldn’t even get tickets to the CMA awards not long before he died. That George Strait song “Murder on Music Row” could have easily been about Faron.
You left out the fact that Faron's hard partying ways led to a downturn in his health. He was suffering from COPD & heart issues, not to mention that it was getting harder for him to perform. This is why he killed himself.
Like many other narcissists, Faron chose to be charismatic & pleasant around some people however, sometimes very rude and mean to others. He was like a real Jekyll and Hyde who became violent without warning. Hilda and their kids have been spinning for years that he was in a long term marriage to Hilda. The truth is he despised Hilda by 1965 and messed around with lots of women just because he could have fun. The true love of his life was a Canadian singer named Ann. She broke his heart when she told him to call her when he got a divorce. He took his time getting his divorce. After being patient for many years Ann announced she was marrying someone else in February 1997. The suicide happened in December, 1996.
