Magic in this world is basically refined to the point of being a science and they design basically swiss watches which can compute the formulas needed for spells. Its actually really cool because it is totally what people would have done with magic if it existed and they totally would have turned it into a weapon for war like in this show.

I remember randomly watching this on a whim last year. Crazy to see it start to gain popularity. Was always animated amazingly

Yes! This show is incredible. Just from a cinematography stand point it's so extremely well done. Like for example, notice how Tanya almost always is framed as if she's above others, even when she's actually below them, showing her superiority. 10:26 is a perfect example.

The Empire is basically a Union between 19th century the German empire and the Austrian Empire together along with the lowlands and Denmark.

You've seen Overlord and Konosuba and Re:Zero - after you've seen this, you'll be good to go for Isakai Quartet. It's a 4 way crossover of all these titles.

This anime as a whole is an ENTIRE W, whoever told u about this genuinely cares about you

This is essentially an alternate magi-tech world in the middle of WW1 with Tanya fighting for Fantasy Imperial Germany. So a very militaristic and elitist society, but minus the insane racism and extermination policies of the Nazis.

The theme behind this anime is actually WW1. Based on the trench warfare, the clothing, and the current military technology that's similar to artillery. The monarchy that Tanya, and the rest of the soldiers represent.

"She's a monster in the form of a child!" That is the quote I always remember whenever I saw Tanya followed by her grin. It's just so iconic for me as how it left a great impression despite being the fuukin first episode!

What I love about the show (and the light novel as well) is that the author really understand his military history and the doctrines used and the development of those doctrines over the course of the story makes perfect sense. A lot of fantasy or sci-fi shows do not think the consequences of a technology/magic through and just put in nonsensical battle-tactics. Not this one. Deep respect for the author.

This is the first video I've seen from you guys I know this wont be seen ( but put it in for the algorithm) but you guys are GREAT!!! so upset i haven't found you sooner!!!

One thing I hated about the translation of the title was that it outright makes Tanya out to be "evil" even though she's not. She's extremely pragmatic and does her best to fit into whatever situation she's in, but it's not like she goes out of her way to torture others or anything actually evil like that. Half the point of the series is how her actions, which as the readers/viewers know are motivated by pragmatism and perceived expectations, can get utterly twisted and misconstrued by others due to their own internal biases. For the series to title itself "evil" in the translation is honestly just outright stupid and whoever thought that was a good translation for the title really really didn't think it through. What annoys me the most about the anime is that they go out of their way to make Tanya look evil and nasty. Even putting the rather... unique frog-eyed art style aside, Tanya has some pretty contorted faces at times. I like the anime overall, but it's pretty clear that they leaned pretty hard into not only the unfortunate art style but also into making Tanya look exaggeratedly bad (something we know is untrue by the text of the novels, especially with certain later events). I know it's based on the rough and grimy art style of the LN, but I would've much preferred if they had gone with the manga art style instead since IMO it's still basically the same look but much MUCH cleaner. Great anime though, and great story! Can't wait for Season 2! To note, the original title Youjo Senki (幼女戦記) is more literally translated as "War Records of a Little Girl." No "evil" to be sighted

Oh, God! To be honest, every time I saw Tanya making those psychopathic looks makes me feel the chill more like it influences you to make such a devilish smile damn! It demonetizes your soul sounds exaggerated right? but you can notice it at the end of this episode.

This anime is taking inspiration from the Red Baron from WW2 who was a the #1 ace pilot for Germany. They recreated several historically relevant dog fights (battles fought in planes) and the maneuvers that pilots would use in those times.

An anime where the main protagonist is the villain. And they did it beautifully

I watched this first episode and thought "Meh, not to special" and then got to that ending of those two soldiers getting killed in the pillbox and thought "Jesus, don't fuck with this child, on to episode two!" and it just got better from then on!

The reactions to the ending where its revealed Tanya sent the corporals to the pillbox on purpose are always priceless.

I totally forgot about this show and it took 10 minutes into this video to remind me why so I watched the whole season an the movie an the ova in one day. Thanks for the reminder

This anime actually covers something really interesting imo, the mundane in Evil, Tanya is evil but in her/his mind it's simply a job where their goal is to climb the ranks regardless of what they have to do
