What really is the difference between a good and great padel player?! In this week's podcast, Tom and I reflect on one of our training sessions this week and also discuss what the pro players do that make them so good at the game. We also chat about overrated and underrated aspects of gameplay. All of this from a new sofa!

I hear Sandy in my left ear and his brother in my right ear. It's really weird. Also the music in the intro is to loud, hard to hear what you are saying

Also would be nice if you add chapters with timestamps

great conversation topic - would love to see more video analysis on anticipation. You mentioned 10 shots that then go down to 4, then only 2 depending on certain movements of the opponents body, space available, position of your partner etc. I know there are a lot of conditions, but it would be great if you could compile some of your amateur or even world cup level gameplay (but not WPT level) so we can learn how to improve our padel chess game! Have a great Christmas - these podcasts have been great and look forward to learning more in 2023!

Great video and only by listening or having a conversation you can improve your game.👍 I think what the pro's or just great players do really great is that they talk or communicate on the court. You can hear it some times but especially if someone has recorded on their phone close to the court you can really hear them talking. Communication goes for every sport though but I feel this is the one thing that is really missing in padel especially for me coming from an intermediate level. And I think even if you might call out the wrong thing it's better to say anything than nothing because then your partner can take A decision vs thinking about various decision taking focus from hitting the ball in a good way.

Hi Tom, great to see you creating content for padel, the videos are great and highly informative. I have started learning padel this year and have been binging content from the brothers Farquharson. Keep up the good work 😊.

Question here: when you talk about slowing down the play, do you talk about lobs and chiquitas? Or do you include hitting at a slower pace?... I just wanted to add that I just had an "aha" moment when you said recreational players focus on the ball rather than how your opponent is hitting the ball

just slowing the play down in general which would include shots, but of course you have to take each game as it comes :) glad to hear about your aha moment!

Great podcast! For me the key point of this conversation is "it depends". Shot selection, positioning, anticipation, they all depend on the current situation. Court, weather, opponents, balls, score and own level all factor in every second of every point. Keep it up Sandy, great content. II echo what Nick B said about a video about anticipation.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the optimal ratio of training vs playing for an intermediate level player trying to get better (or for anyone for that matter)!
