The 3.0 comes with a big tennis bag (for 12 rackets), a ball hopper, etc... and the 5.0 with only 2 rackets. This was genius!

Haha, so true. I used to take 4 racquets and switch racquets during the match. Now, 2 racquets, no bag sometimes 😊

And the 5.0 player has an ego as big as his ass

For a 3.0 player arriving like 45 mins early has its benefits. - Avoid being late caused by unexpected incidents such as traffic, car break down or no parking. - Arriving early to minimise nervousness, a 3.0 player by definition has less experience in matches. The extra time can allow restroom visits, getting familiar with the environment, even checking out the opponents which all helps in settling in. - If court is available, 15-20 mins of warmups, serves, volleys and overheads all add to getting ready for a match. Last thing one wants is arriving just in time to an unfamiliar territory and rushed into a match.

Better to be 45 minutes early than 1 minute late

My experience is completely different. Not USTA, I'm in that country up north of US. Different league play format, but close enough. I'm about 3.0 (on a good day). I'd arrive with 2 racquets about 15-20 min early and warm up by at least running around the court, then hitting if possible. The rest of 3.0 (or so) players would usually arrive few minutes before match, some of them even late, often with one racquet, warm up by missing a few shots and start to play as soon as possible. The 5.0 players would be the ones arriving early with a bag full of racquets, bully their way on to a court, warm up forever and play until lights out. Now if we were a home team and it's really important match then we would book a court before the match and warm up properly. Heck, now that I think about it we should book all courts to prevent visiting team from warming up at all....

Yes. I can confirm this example is true. Ive played 5.0 league in the past and was much more straight to the match, start match after a five minutes warm-up with opponents. . I moved down to 4.5 some yrs ago and the warm-up is like 4 times longer with oppents, plus show up early to warm up with your team. As the level goes towards novice the warm-up get longer and longer.

The host not offering a warmup court if they have a court is pretty poor sportsmanship.

Warm-up court? I do warmup only in order to avoid injuries (sometimes not even that). Trying to enhance your performance below at least challenger tournament is just a try-hard thing. It's still called "PLAY" Tennis. Just go onto the court and have fun.

I won't change anything. I don't arrive last minute or half a day before. I'm not a pro, so at the end of the day nothng makes any difference at all. Just go out and have fun. I do however warm up a little to avoid injuries, but most times I just start slowly and get into it while playing.
