Jokic or Donic are the top contender in my mind, if we're talking about actual MVP, Tatum's is incredible but he lacks the raw stats of the other two and he is less "critical" for his team than Luka or Joker
I think if luka can push his team to the 4th seed for the second year in a row without Brunson I think the narrative tied to that Alone will be enough to get him The mvp
MVP is all about individual play. It's about the individual contribution of one player in all aspects of the game. Take the player out of the team, Luka is the winner - by far. As you said, he's carrying the team. Anybody else, are contenders but they're on better quality teams. Just my 2 cents. (PS love the channel)
"MVP" means most VALUABLE... if you take JT out of Celtics, i think the team is still winning, but is if you take luka out of the mavs ryt now? I don't know if they'll be a .500 team. so from that point, i think luka is more valuable than jt. that is just me though.

Tatum isnt HIM. He literally a no show when the team wants him the most. Brown literally show up for Celtics. Luka isn't like that. He REFUSES to lose. Stats aside, that's what separates them. Luka is a beast. If you want true stats that contribute to MVP case, check out who's leading in WS, VORP and BPM. It's Luka and Jokic.
I think that if you take luka out of that team and they would be at the bottom of the entire league. The fact that this kid has them a couple of games away from the top seed speaks volumes of his talent. I love Tatum and he is a better defender than him, is not even a conversation. But he has all star caliber teammates and in terms of value, luka means more to dallas success than tatum means to the Celtics. Celtics would be a decent team without him, not great but decent. Dallas would be horrible without luka.
Tatum plays with Jaylen Brown who is almost as good as him, a DPOY and a deep loaded roster. Luka has 2 decent role players. Luka means the most to his team than any other player. If Mavs keep the 4th seed, Luka wins no question.
I'm confused. So Luka has the better numbers than Tatum. But Tatum wins MVP because his team is better...hence will have a better record than the Mavericks. So in order for Luka to win MVP, the Mavs role players have to hit their open shots yet before the season started we all knew Boston had a better team and therefore would have a better record. What's the point for Luka to put up historic numbers if he can't win it because his team was never going to best the Celtics team record? This is such a flawed argument. Since the 2011 season there have been 11 winners. 6 have come from the team with the best record 5 have come from a team that does not hold the best record. As long as you hold a top 3-4 seed in your own conference, you can win it. Exception was Jokic and Westbrook.

It’s funny you talk about how awesome the Celtics’ offense is this season, & it is, but if you look at their halfcourt offense, (where Luka is a magician), Boston is 118.6 pts/poss, while Dallas is 117.0 pts/poss. Dallas is actually 105.2 pts/play, while Boston is 103.8 pts/play. So even with all the offensive weapons that Boston has in comparison to Dallas, including fellow MVP candidate Jaylen Brown avg 27 ppg, the Mavs halfcourt offense is either only 1.6 pts/poss < OR 1.4pts/100plays > the most efficient offense in NBA history mainly bc of Luka Doncic lmao. Also the Mavs are 13-8 vs teams with records above .500, which is the best in the West, so they’re not just squeaking out wins against bad teams. If you look at Andy Bailey’s (Bleacher Report) list of NBA players ranked by their averages in 10 catch-all metrics (BPM, EPM, RAPTOR, RPM, etc), Luka is in 1st on the list avg 1.6 & Tatum is tied for 6th on that list avg 8.1. Basically Luka has been playing out of his mind, is the definition of most valuable to his team, & deserves the MVP before Tatum, but they might give it to Tatum (or someone else) bc his team’s record

Hope I didn’t sound like a prick, wasn’t trying to come off as condescending, just amazed that Luka’s responsible for the Mavs offense being very close to the Celtics historic offense considering the difference in talent on those 2 rosters & people still want to put Tatum over Luka. Still a lot of season to go, but if the Mavs keep a top 4 seed & Luka continues doing what he’s done so far, he deserves that thing

I'm not putting Tatum over Luka he is miles ahead of a better basketball player than Tatum is, but he is still over Luka in the race right now cause of a combination between his historic performance of 31/8/5 which is still something players can't achieve and their teams jump from last season offensively. I see your point though the halfcourt sets have been close and yeah Luka has also been beating good teams thats my bad just as of recently his best games have been against weaker teams.
I don't agree with you that Tatum has a better chance of winning the MVP title because that title is an individual award anyway and someone who ranks high enough with a bad team has a better chance of winning the title than someone who plays with great teammates.
Tatum has co star and a defensive player at his team while Luka? none. Is so obvious that Luka is way more ahead to tatum. Tomorrow will be the day. I hope that Luka will dominate tomorrow to end this conversation
