Summary; The wheels are slightly different, prewar has 2 copper plates for power, and sometimes it has a direction switch, Also that set is absolutely AMAZING
I have a similar prewar engine. It has spoked wheels and 3 pickups as you noted. What gives with those extra trucks/wheels on front and back? My prewar does not have them. Are those an accessory added later?
Some models had the extra wheels in the front and back, Other's didn't, one of the reasons why was based on the set it came in. Higher money sets had the extras, rather it be with the extra wheels or a higher quality cars or accessories that came with the boxed set. One other reason is because Lewis Marx had complaints of derailing
My question is , are the two engines interchangeable ? Also what other Marx engines will fit in those shells? Right now I have five custom painted Jubilee shells .
Yes the pre / postwar motors are definitely interchangeable. It's basically the same setup motor to the frame. The Motor just slides in place on the back of the shell, and two screws on the steam chest points. You can use either one on your jubilee. Thank you for watching my videos. I'm always happy to help.😁
All train sets have value, Although trains have dropped in value sence 2008. based on the younger generation not really appreciating trains as much as the golden generation who grew up with trains, not saying younger people don't want them, just less and less over time from the 1950's-2020 As for value, it's all about condition and how rare it is, for example, the Marx Wells Fargo locomotives was very fragile and broke easy, so it's hard to find a good one today, in complete sets in LN condition is selling for about $1000. And then there's rare trains like the Marx ( Mohawk Freight Penn Central 41850) the set is all rare, diesel, all cars, box, sells for about $500. You're value of your set is condition and how rare the locomotive is, same with ,cars box, Same with Lionel, the anniversary set of the 1950, 2023, Or prewar blue commit, both rare and Worth a lot of money (Age) the older the train the more value it has usually too, Prewar trains are selling for more than post trains in general, they are close to 100 years old, and less of them are around in great condition, Parts are hard to find too so even junk parts are worth money.
