I appreciate your attempts to make a video about differences and explaining to new comer. You got 70% for the differences correct, normally I am not active in the TL online community. But as a OG with these car since they came off the factory truck in 2004, I can point out a few extra differences. At one point I have every 3G TL with all the difference trims and transmission. I still have a fleet of these TL lol. 1. Type S has more aggressive side skirt vs Base 2. Type S has more aggressive rack and pinion ratio and PS pump behave differently as well ( they work less at parking speed) to give driver more firmer steering feel. 3. Type S receive exclusive Cabin Noise Cancelation system. 4. Type S came with standard deck lid spoiler that more aggressive than 06-08 dealer accessory option. 5. Type S has dark chrome exterior trims vs Base Satin silver color. 6. Type S front bumper has bottom flare out and angle of the foglight / \ vs base \ / 7. Type S has honey come grill vs Base slits 8. 07-08 Base rear bumper has a smaller opening fake vent vs Type S. Type S rear bumper also has flare out at the bottom. 9. Type S receive exclusive exterior paint "Kinetic Blue Pearl" like the one in my profile pic. 10. Type S trans received firmer and slightly quicker shifting from 2nd-3rd and 4th to 5th in the auto trans. 11. All Type S came with two tone interior. 11. If you want a manual in 07-08 the only way to get it from factory is getting from a Type S. 12. Type S has dark chrome headlight housing where Base has chrome. 13. Type S has smoked rear side marker light vs Base red. 14. Type S front seat has more aggressive side bolster on the seat back portion, bottom portion receive an additional sticking panels (4 on type S and 3 for base). Rear seat Type S has also difference than Base as well. Now to performance perspective, here are the order going from slowest to fastest in STOCK form. Base auto > Type S auto > Base Manual > Type S Manual. Base manual is faster than Type S auto because of the gearing disadvantage, 0-90 the Type S will pull away from Base manual (assuming the base can can shift). After 90 mph the base manual will reeling in Type S, we OG tried so young guy doesn't have to. However between the updated tech and abilities to tune ECU in the Type S even an Auto Type S is preferred (all 07-08 ECU are tunable without required modification).
Proud owner of a 06 tl (6speed).My First motor timing belt snapped on me and vavles got bent 🫠. I purchased another a3 off an 05 tl with 79k. Slapped a few bolt ons and she is running a lot smoother. J series is roaring again ❤. Keep up with maintence and these cars will run a lifetime 👍.
@@DrivenCarss unfortunate for a/t owners having to deal with tranny issues 😩. Overall the 3rd gen is a great looking platform 💯. Great content bro beans keep em coming.
I got my TL auto cause nobody bothered teaching me how to drive standard but It is still a fun car to drive and does the job, but yes manual is better for these cars, auto is cool too if you wanna just chill and drive.
There not a type s for a tsx but you have one of the best engine for honda k24 6speed but i f you are look for more hp there is a tsx in the UK they dont call it tsx they call it honda accord but its bad ass
The biggest difference between any tl is manual vs automatic transmission. Not only a huge fun factor, any automatic transmission tl can not beat a 6sp manual, no matter type s or not.
me honestly i prefer the base model no point for a typeS when it’s the same body style it’s just the motor and the interior also the paddle shifters that’s all other than that u can make a base model looks like a type s simple slap a Type s Lip and the BBK and people won’t no the different just pop the hood that’s it
Didn’t the 04-06 models have 270hp?? In 07 they detuned the 3.2 to not steal sales from the type s since they were so close in crank hp....picked up a 04 base TL, aside from the ugly non gps stereo, I love it
The regular type L has 270hp, if your gonna say 256 crank then you should do the same for the type s….point being is that both vehicles make almost the same power….also even the regular type L with the 6 speed came with front brembo brakes and front limited slip differential….
04-05 TL base were rated at 270HP from Honda, 06-08 base were rated at 258HP only because they updated their standard of measurement to SAE which then changed the TL rating to 258HP but the base engines from 04-08 make the same power. 04-06 base manual also came with thicker/stiffer rear sway bar exactly like the type s. The base manual also has a different gearing ratio than the TL type s manual.
How did you modify the exhaust tips for the tl type s to sound louder? BTW I have an 07 tl type s, and it's the best car ever!! TL stands for True Love imo!
So if I have the 07 type s, can I just buy the front lip not the whole a spec bumper.Pretty new to cars so don’t flame me. Like I just want the rear diffuser and front lip and side skirts I don’t want to have to add a whole new bumper just to fit the lip.
The best base model is 04& 05 more hp and torque close to the type s the type s has little more hp but with a tune up on the base model it will not make a different type s it little more heavy with the j35 for me the base model its better then the type s cuz the body looks better
04-05 Base does not have more power than 06-08 Base. The SAE procedure changed to "rating" a car HP to prevent the crazy horse power war. Some vehicle loose power while other gain power. Aka accessory belt must be on, engine oil top off to the max. Many brand intentional put less oil and not put on accessory belt to produce un-achievable number. If you looks at wheel HP the 04-05 vs 06-08 they put down the same WHP.
@truonghthe I respect your opinion, but you're wrong. The 04 and 05 base Model it is faster than 06 and 07 Base model I .did race the 06 and 07 and beat them like nothing just saying
The type s only had 16 more horse power than the 04-05 tl. They bumped it down to 256 once the type s came out so it would seem like more of a difference which is kinda funny. They probably had too much hp for their transmissions anyways though.
I’ve heard both of what everyone is saying and I’ve had 2 05’s and 1 07 (Ik I’m crazy🤣) The 2005’s definitely felt quicker and snappier and not by too much but I can tell. The 2007 also drives smoother.
what i mean when i say the exhaust is stock is that i don’t have any different branded exhaust, i just removed the cat and i have high flow pre cats, the mufflers are still stock
