Does ST1,2&3 have the same BRAKE HORSE POWER and everything same how they all drive? So is the only difference in the interior and exterior but engine power BHP is the same ?
Yes it's not exactly beautiful is it ? I think tangerine Scream or orange fury really are the colours which suit the Focus ST. These days I hear of so many strange people that are effectively trying to pressure other people into adopting extreme conservatism throughout all aspects of life. So taking the hot hatch subject into account, it's as if these people want other people to choose grey as a hot hatch colour just because someone happens to be an adult and this group of people try to effectively label others with this "adult tag". It's as if we're theoretically expected to comply up to this mould and should be conservative and understated at all times. It's a great deal of effort living up to this type of pressure and so unnecessary and degrading to some degree as well and could be seen as interfering. Going back to hot hatches, if you disagree with some others and you want to go for a marvellous orange paint then go for it! However, I think that grey basically hides a fun and happy hot hatch and what is the point in this? Ok, if you have to go for grey, that's fine and that's your choice. We respect your opinion. On the other hand, adults should be respected if they happen to prefer hot hatches in brighter colours and shouldn't feel guilty because it is a freedom of choice. As adults we shouldn't feel as if we have to ask others' approval and permission at the risk of them feeling offended. So what if they get offended? It's none of their business and they obviously have issues if they are persistent with these views. Other people shouldn't speak for our decisions.
Interesting that someone with Ford engineering background went with the Focus ST, and the ST1 as well. Gives me confidence in the quality of the 2017 ST2 I got last month. Always enjoy the videos, they're super informative!
I recently purchased a brand new 2018 ST1 and TBH with y'all, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. The ST is an absolute blast to drive and an awesome car. Only mods I've done so far is an upgraded AEM Dry-Flow Air Filter, CFM Carbon Fiber Billet Oil Breather Cap and Weather-Tech In-Channel Window Deflectors.
Although there are differences because of the trim level, the performance still remains the same on both.......and that's what is key. If you just want the performance and want to save cash, then the ST1 is the way to go. Both awesome cars in anyone's language. Thanks Gjeebs, nice vid man!!
U can get the carbon fiber extras for the st1 online. The trim and shift knob. 😂😂😂I don't care for leather seats at all. I like the seats in my st1. All packages have the same engine. You are paying extra for the seats and stereo system.
I knew all these things about the 402a package. This is why I waited 3 months until I found a white 2018 st with the st3 402a package and I couldnt be happier. Didnt even notice the adaptive headlights until I drove the car at night and it blew my mind and I fell in love. These cars are excellent and the discontinue hurts. All of us ST owners wish we could have gotten the rs but the st3 402a package really makes you feel like your sitting in one.. until you launch lol.. then it hits you again.. this is fwd.👌😅 but still my baby 😘😘
Great Vid! I have to drive my F-250 for work during the week, Tomorrow is Saturday. I get to take my 2018 ST with 400 miles on the clock out for a blast. Leaves are changing color going for a day long blast up the Mohawk Trail into the mountains of Vermont......

exterior was actually the main reason i got the st3 sitting next to the st1. the rims, tires, and colored break calipers made it a totally different car for me. or was that just a tire package i missed.
Just bought a 2017 Estate ST2 (I think) in europe. Only downside is that for whatever reason I don't have cruise control, which my old 2008 Golf had. :(
The ST1 head unit and system has less functionality depending on the year, and I'm not 100% sure but I don't think it's SYNC3. Few, if none 2018 ST1s had aux input (my 17 ST1 does) and ST1s don't come with SiriusXM capability. Mine didn't but I somehow still got a free 6 month trial lol. The only thing about the ST2/ST3 I'm missing is the seats. Trying to track them down piece by piece and swap them over, but as far as the head unit and other features, I didn't need/want them especially for the price hike.
Just purchased an ST2 last week. Previous car was a Fiesta ST. Two very small differences are the cargo lights and the cap over the 12V outlet next to the shifter. I believe the last year Ford completely removed the right side cargo light and just left it blank. In addition if you look at the power outlet cap on yours vs the new one you will notice yours has a silver ring where as the 18s are just plain black. I also did some searching and it turns out Ford also removed the small tray thats under the center console lid. I love this car but it just irritates me that they literally just built these until there were no more parts.
Yea it’s amazing what they change year to year without telling you. I know when I changed my bushings there was a difference between my cable and the 2015 test cable I used.
Wanted an ST3 originally, but was able to pay 20k out the door for a new ST1 last year. Ultimately no regrets. Fun ass car no matter what the interior is. Nice job on the video!
Most likely some small stuff will still be produced but since the new STs are fairly different i believe it might be harder to find any new companies that want to play with the 12-18 platform. Howeever a shit ton of people are buying STs right now (at least on the east coast) so it could mean a resurgance, well just have to wait and see
is the carbon a separate package from the st3? i have a 2014 st3 with no carbon, im assuming if its not its just a new thing they did to the newer models.
Outside of the obvious material difference, are the bolstered seats in the st3 worth the upgrade? Because to me that seems like the main reason to upgrade outside of the center console layout/features.
Benjowlmin Personally id go for the ST2 package. (Coming from an ST2 owner lol) Not sure of the exact number but it saves a few pounds since it doesn’t have the electric elements for the heated seats/wheel/mirrors. You get the touch screen and leather recaros with cloth inserts. Premium sound. Etc. Seats are easy to find but if you’re looking to upgrade from Sync to a touch screen you’re looking at a minimum $350-$500 before install depending on new or used.
They're not even close to the same. The ST2 and 3 seats are more aggressively bolstered and I found them uncomfortable. As to the brand of the seats, the simple fact is that Recaro the company is one of, if not the biggest seat makers in the world. They make all kinds of OEM seats for all kinds of cars and have factories around the world. They make full-on sports car bucket seats and they make lame ass back bench seats too. Just because a seat lacks a Recaro label does not mean it was not made by them. They are a highly valued subcontractor to many car makers.
ST2's & ST3's also have dual zone climate control. ST1's are basic single zone. ST3's get heated seats, side mirrors and steering wheel. I didn't need all that crap and bought a new '17 ST1 for a little over 20K OTD last year. The ST1 front seats are not Recaro seats either.. they are more similar to Focus SE seats in shape and bolstering and have their own unique cloth. More comfortable than the Recaro seats by a long shot IMHO. The ST1's are an incredible value and can often be bought for around 20K new when Ford is offering incentives. Try finding a car from any other brand that offers the level of performance the Focus ST does for that price. They simply do not exist.
Absolutely. Got my 17 ST1 July last year for little over 20,400. I raced it countless times this car is incredible. I never lose to wrx, gti, or si. Smoked a tuned wrx 3 times in a row doing digs and roll starts as soon as I got the car. At the end he said Holy shit that little thing is fast lol. Also hit 142 racing Hemi challenger on the Parkway in jersey. He stayed in my Sideview v8 screaming as he had no aero at all while the focus shaped like a bullet (race started side by side at about 80mph). Once a Vette really put me in my place though lmao but seriously stock for this money is absolutely incredible. Crushed a Lexus IS300 coming home from work yesterday. Beat beamer's n audi's on the regular. Ford hit a home run with the ST. I surprise people all the time.
You need to get that ST on a curvy country road Jason, or better yet a track day. Racing on the highway is not safe for you or other motorists sharing the road with you. Besides... that is where the Focus ST really shines. They handle better than any car in their class around curves. Yeah WOT pulls are fun but again not safe and a good way to get ticketed or lose your driver's license.
Perry Beyer you are right. I just was never able to resist the urge to race. I took my 14 Elantra to Hershey Park and there were some amazing roads on the way I had a blast with in my Elantra. Have been wanting to go back since I got my ST. Not just the pulls but yes the handling is amazing. I spent 2 grand on my 02 SER Spec V suspension and it doesn't feel as good as this Focus. One of these days I'll take it on some nice winding roads!
Yes you can. I have an SE model which is the same ones as the st1. I added an amp & 12” sub and it hits hard. Make sure you buy a LC2i if you want to keep your factory stereo.
How much maximum can the ST do with stock turbo and stock engine with full bolts on & tune & stuff.. & would it be enough to beat a golf R or something like a g37?
I don’t know much about the g37. Golf R it would come close to beating a manual transmission golf R but the DSG version would wax it. Instead of building it to beat a golf R I would just buy a golf R.
@@Gjeebs Somehow I think that the stock Focus ST still manages to feel a faster and more communicative car than a Golf R. It's as if the Golf R is an excellent smooth and a serious conservative car but not a cheeky and fun communicative hot hatch. Definitely one of the most serious natured performance cars in the universe. It's almost like a robot.🤖 Maybe this car is advanced and this could be what is in store of what future "hot hatches" could be like. Hopefully not. Interestingly, when driving the Vauxhall Insignia SRi in comparison, it feels more dynamic and has a better feel good factor despite having half the power!
Fords audio systems arent too bad. Maybe on the focus it isnt. But we have a 2012 ford fiesta SE and the sound system is amazing. Very good bass for no subs
Skylight FX my brother's 07 mustang's shaker 500 was incredible. I don't think my Focus sound system is bad n I have the ST1. Bass is adequate but I always want more. Had subs in all my previous cars it's what I'm used to.
ST1 also has no sun roof. No 10 speaker Sony system. No Heated/cooling seats or steering wheel. And the seats may be Ricarro but they feel just like the seats in a regular Focus SE, no leather and not as low or bolstered.
My 15 st3 doesnt have that carbon fiber on the door handle, around the radio, shifter or on the ebrake. No carbon fiber. Are you sure someone didnt add that to yours?
Johnny Reinsch not by much by if you want performance without the extras such as sunroof, touchscreen, recaro leather bucket seats, and the sony sound system, at least your squeezing in that little bit of performance difference. Lol Personally, love the ST1 and im looking into one soon hopefully.
Shemar Stevens their is hardly any weight difference between the two.....the st3 is the total package, Everytime I get in my st3 it makes me smile cuz them recaroz and I love having a sunroof!!!!
my ST2 has no sunroof or LED lights & partial leather seats and I think the ST3 came with the sunroof, full leather seats & LED lights, for the 2013 year, ST1 had cloth seat no navigation or touchscreen, no sony stereo or dual climate controls, and no sunroof. 82k miles on it and the engine mounts have failed all 3 of them, got some CPE mounts on the way, not cheap though over $1,000 for all 3, ( the engine mounts ford use are complete garbage )
Every dealer I went to in AZ charges ~2900 for what they call "UV Protection" ugh Window tint, It was on Ford, Kia, Chevy, Jeep, Chrysler, so while it's desirable it's, it ultimately was installed in every single vehicle I looked at in the greater phoenix area at a huge markup and none of them budged on the price of it.
The sound system(Sony) is not good. There is no separation with the highs. Everything sounds flat. You turn the volume up and the highs flatten out. The bass is just ok but nothing to write home about. I changed everything from the Sony amp downward. Added a line out converter connected to two amps( one for mids and highs and one for bass). Upgraded all speakers and threw out the stock subwoofer. Component speakers are from RE audio(200 watts rms per channelx4). Subwoofers are two solobaric kickers(10's) putting out 1200 watts rms. One 4 channel Rockville amp( give these amps a try) and a pioneer class D amp (this one is certified at over 1300 watts). 300 amp alternator to power everything (stock is 150) and zero gauge wiring from alternator to battery, battery to ground and chassis to ground and 1 2 farad capacitor. It is the best system I have installed( did everything myself). At low volume it sounds amazing with great clarity and amazing separation. I can hear every instrument in detail. I have heard stock systems in other makes that sound amazing with clarity and great separation( BMW,Lexus,Acura to name a few) but the Focus is not one of them I'm sorry to say. They could have done so much more and with minimal extra cost. Ford chose to be cheap in this area
