This year, both of my children qualify as Waldorf kindergartners. So as I’m starting to prep and plan for our upcoming homeschool year, I wanted to share with you what the differences are between a traditional kindergarten and a Waldorf kindergarten.

Hi Kate. Our 4 yr old grandson is 4, he already taught himself to read, he is going to transitional kinder. He is very articulate, outgoing. He cant write though, pencil is too big. Would Waldorf be good for him?

Yes! Waldorf is a great option, even for children who have taught themselves to read. Reading by themselves isn’t discouraged, but the abstract concepts behind reading and literacy aren’t taught until seven because that’s when our bodies go through a transition stage both intellectually and physically. And typically, our bodies and minds are not ready to write until those changes happen around 7, as well. Waldorf Kindergarten promotes learning through play and life skills, and it works to protect the magic of childhood and prolong that as much as possible.
