As someone whose a bit of an artist myself, I’ve really enjoyed the Jim Kay editions. I’m no where near as good as him or any of these artists, not in my opinion anyways, but his artwork is absolutely magical. The MinaLima books are next on my favorites. I just love how much immersive those books are.

I’m over the moon about the Minalima editions that Scholastic commissioned and really curious how they’re going to deal with the larger books! I think they’ll be wonderful heirlooms. I too have a first printing of the Sorcerer’s stone which is probably my most cherished possession but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want a signed copy. 🙊🙈

Original hardcovers are simply amazing 🤩 🤩. Plus, they introduced the famous Harry Potter font which was afterwards used for the movies! All other later editions are ok, but none of them can beat the originals! I hope they never put them out of print! As for the illustrated editions, I prefer Jim Kay’s over Minalima. In fact, the thing I liked most about Mianlima edition is the cover. I found the scene illustrations inside rather dark and not quite as I pictured them. However, I’m not a big fan of illustrated editions, because even though I love Jim Kay’s artwork, I feel that all the illustrations sort of condition your imagination. That’s another reason why I love the original editions: they feature a discrete and simply amazing illustration at the beginning of each chapter representing the most important content of them, not too much, not too little: just the right amount.

This video was amazing I did not know how many different editions of the Harry Potter series there was! The hardback us editions at the beginning of the video the artwork cover was beautiful so I’ve sourced my own for a collection to go with my original series of the book and also looking to get the paperback art cover set thank you for this amazing informative video ❤

Awesome collection. At the age of 34 (this year) I finally watched the movies. Loved them. Getting the book set soon. Getting the paperback first and I have found two of the hardbacks at goodwill. Im gonna buy the hardback ones as I find them for only $2 each. Can’t wait to get the book set and eventually all of them in hardcover. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for this overview of the different editions. I did note, at 4:21, the first two books are out of order (I noticed, since the Hogwarts didn’t look quite right).

Maybe I missed it in this video but the version of Sorcer’s Stone I read was a larger hardcover with the original art BUT the art was very washed out. It was nearly black and white but it had a little bit of color. I’ve never seen that version again. Maybe it’s just what some of these hard covers look like under their sleeves?

i can renember it was my 9th birthday and i got the 5th Harry potter for it as it came out in June 21st 2003 and i got my first edition which was the yellow book with the Qhoenix on the front. I had to start readign straight away its one of the memorys i will always renember though i keep going back and reading them again. i rely like the covers off all the USA ones am in Uk i got first edtions and 2014 editions as well.

Heya! It honestly depends on what you’re wanting. I prefer hardcovers bc that’s me. The softcovers are lighter and take up less space and less expensive. The hardcover first editions can still be bought at bookstores but they’re about $30+ a book. You can get a new softcover set for about $50/$75.

just collect the covers you like the most, the only difference is minor changes in text between us and uk versions, me personally i like the 2014 uk covers bcus of how colourful they are

Good question! The us and uk books are the same. Some translations have revisions tho to be more in line with the original books.

Love your ideas!!
