The sister being “shocked to hear Maddie was dating Spencer behind her brothers back” hits a nerve with me - ok, how “shocked” were you when you found out your brother had abused Maddie, and killed the mother of his children??

His sister so proud that he MANNED up, he went and got a JOB, he LET Maddie finish college...then loses his job during Covid and never bothers to get another one, the kids go to daycare, and he contributes a big fat nothing to the household.

His sister is so cringe! "He allowed her to continue her education." Say WHAT?? Girl, you need to keep that trap of yours shut. "He manned up." The hell he did! He used her as a meal ticket and a punching bag. When a violent relationship ends, get as far away from him as possible and DO NOT COMMUNICATE WITH THE MONSTER! You simply MUST make a clean break.

My ex fiancé violently attacked me one evening, slamming me to the ground on my face and held me down screaming at me at the top of his lungs, keeping my phone away from me, wouldn't let me get up, leave his sight or leave the house etc. He had NEVER before even raised his voice to me, he was wonderful, I loved him deeply, my family loved him, we all trusted him completely and had known him almost 20 years. I could have let it go, after all I had felt partially responsible for pushing him too far that night and it could have been chocked up to a "one time thing" but I knew deep down I HAD TO LEAVE. That broke my heart but I knew the statistics and now I was truly terrified and traumatized. So, I played it cool with him but told my therapist, friends and family, found an apartment, packed up and left the following week during the day while he was at work. We cannot mess around when it comes to things like this. It's hard to leave the one you love and the life you built but when they lay violent hands on you, it has to be GAME OVER, the *first time* , period! This is the ultimate "deal breaker". Stay safe. Not just the ladies either, men are vulnerable to DV too and it can and does escalate quickly. Life is too precious and too short. 🙏🏼🩵🙏🏼

Ladies you don’t tell people you’re leaving because it’s the most dangerous time in an abusive relationship, you just leave

I have a 31 year old stepdaughter. When I discovered that her former boyfriend was being verbally abusive and threatened her, I confronted him and said that I wasn't afraid of jail. To watch his back. She finished the relationship and he left her alone. Please, families. Get involved and show these cowards the same medicine. They always retreat. If Maddie was my daughter, he was the one being missed.

just knowing that my mother had to tell family and friends the same message, “if anything happens to me (her bf at the time) did it. i would never leave my kids” breaks my heart. she luckily made it out alive but it absolutely destroyed her life. her identity was stolen, she got beat regularly, he would also lay hands on me and my siblings and he put me and my sibling in extremely dangerous situations. still now years later we feel like we have to watch our backs for him because law enforcement did absolutely nothing to help ever.

To Everyone (men & women): Please do not ever take any threats lightly. It’s not a joke. Get out! Your life depends on it. Any discomfort & heartbreak felt from leaving is nothing compared to losing your life & possibly the lives of the children you may have.

Their childhood home must have been so full of normalized violence for them to defend their brother even after he told the mother of his children that she'd end up like Gabby Petito if she wasn't careful. Poor Madi. This is why it's important to have protected sex, too. If she hadn't gotten pregnant, she may not have felt obligated to stay with the man who abused and ultimately murdered her, for the sake of her child. She could've left Adam for Spencer and been in a much healthier, happier relationship. Now those kids are motherless and practically fatherless too, if he ends up serving time for his violence as he should. BEWARE: There is no law that says police have to wait 24hrs before looking for a missing person. NO LAW! Although, it might be that stations protocol, that doesn't matter. If you are ever in this type of a situation, which I hope never happens, you tell the police you want to speak with the head of missing persons and point out that there is no law prohibiting police to wait any amount of time. You fight for your loved one. No matter who you have to fight. The first few hours are crucial. Be an advocate. Please.

As someone who has been through domestic violence, there's a red flag others don't see. Maddie graduating college and going for her masters. A sociopathic narcissist despises their partner getting better, or growing in any way. Also, her boyfriend lost his job during covid while she's still getting better. This is unknowningly a dangerous time as she continues to better herself.

When you find yourself having the "if anything happens to me, so and so did it" conversation, that means you need to get out of that relationship immediately ; carefully and quietly ofcourse ....that's your inner most survival instinct that knows better than even you at that moment, that you are in danger...

I've had that talk with my sister too 😢 "I'd never leave my kids, if I go missing it's not by choice", told one coworker too. Scariest time of my life, I am so blessed I was able to make it out!! I used to work in a shelter for battered women and children. The red flags were blaring. People need to be better educated. Sadly Maddie made a fatal error by staying with her killer. A mandatory course in highschool might save lives. I'm so sorry for the family and her children. RIP Maddie.

I'm almost 40; if my mom doesn't get a call from me each day, she knows something is wrong. We call multiple times a day. The only time I didn't call was when I was in the ER. And she somehow knew, that she even called the hospital I was at. Her intuition is crazy.

When a mother gets that feeling in her gut that something is amiss in her universe NEVER shrug that off. The chord gets cut at birth but the spirit of that chord lives on and on

Choking is a bad bad sign. The risk of death is much higher where there is a history of choking, throttling, etc. Bad news and traumatic AF.
