The DISGUSTING Evil Of Thomas Seymour - The Abuser Of Elizabeth I
There are many people that throughout the Tudor Period were associated with execution, scandal and shocking behaviour. But one of the most despicable and disgraceful men of Henry VIII’s court and later Edward VI’s advisory council was Thomas Seymour. The 1st Baron Seymour of Sudeley was a jealous and vindictive man who wished greatly to become one of the most powerful men in the country. Many would fight for power inside especially the boy King Edward VI’s court but few would go to the lengths that Thomas Seymour did. He’s a man linked to the abuse and inappropriate treatment of Princess Elizabeth, the future Elizabeth I and he was later executed for a huge number of accusations of treason. But what did he do which was so evil?

Thank you for this video. I have been enjoying Becoming Elizabeth. However, they wrongly chose to depict Elizabeth and Seymour as having shared a mutual sexual and romantic relationship. It disappointed me to see this knowing that Seymour was a nearly forty-year-old man who abused a young girl in reality. I was even more disgusted by fellow watchers of the show who voiced their love for Seymour and Elizabeth's "relationship" online.

Tbh, the fact Elizabeth actress is in her 20’s, makes you lose the innocence of the real scenario. If they had used an actress who appeared to be 14-16, it would have been way more realistic and creepy. Credit to the Thomas actor because I am actually really creeped out by his little smirks and manipulations. If I know anything about teenage girls, having the advances of an attractive older man can be quite flattering, so Elizabeth’s behaviour in the show is potentially not unrealistic, especially as Thomas is supposed to be attractive by Tudor standards. But all these shows skirt the boundaries of reality and romanticise things that are in reality not acceptable.

Thomas Seymour's attempt to kidnap Edward from his bedchamber has to be the most insane and bonkers ever tried. He was caught in the room next to Edward, where he'd sneaked in after dark,, Edward's dog barked at him and in a panic Seymour ran it through with his sword! . It was then that the room filled with guards and valets: to see Edward sword in hand with a dead dog on the floor before him. His guilt was obvious .. and it was this insane kidnap attempt that condemned him.

As awful as this treatment was towards Elizabeth, she, being an I intelligent young girl, didn't buckle under for Thomas nor when questioned under a great deal if pressure from the council! She learned from the experience, it helped strengthen her in prep for the crown. She'd been through the very worst as a girl w her very life on the line and it taught her as no other experience might have, w the exception of her mother's death at the hands of her father, the king! Just one of the reasons she was, remains still, a much admired and revered, monarch, to this very day!

My understanding of this interrogation episode of Elizabeth was that she could have easily thrown Kat Ashley under the bus while her persecutors searched for co-conspirators, potentially saving herself in the process, but she didn't because of her intense loyalty to her lady-in-waiting. Any hesitance or doubt from Elizabeth would surely have guaranteed a horrible death for Kat. This shows that true loyalty shines downwards and sideways as well as up. Elizabeth displayed incredible courage and composure, especially for someone her age.

Y'all forget it was a patriarchal world back then and she was pregnant. My own incubator used me as a commodity to keep her disgusting boyfriend around, then blamed me for his attraction to me and his leaving her years later (she is a schizophrenic nightmare of a sub-human). I was only 8 when it started, about 12, 13 when it was over. I honestly don't get the vibe, if you will, that Parr was like my incubator. Sending Elizabeth away was the best thing she could have done after realizing that she was married to a monster. Times were messed up for women back in her day. If anything, the experience was a valuable lesson for Elizabeth not to marry and give up her rights to her husband as was the expectation back then.

Beneficiaries of English History should be appreciative of the young queen-to-be's strength and intelligence. Had Seymour succeeded with Elizabeth, then the history of England could have been far worse ! On the positive side, could Seymour have had a hand in creating the adamant future virgin queen, by showing the young Elizabeth the worst of men ? It is interesting that the many women of Elizabeth's time, who rose in European society to be considered for becoming queens, were such remarkable people in intelligence, culture, and self-control. They showed this by the benefits which they bestowed upon their societies when they became responsible managers of state. Their families apparently never considered these remarkable, well-educated women, as lesser than their male counterparts.

Thomas was an absolute trainwreck of a statesman: he had a lots of luck and no talents. Someone as well-connected as him (queen's brother, king's uncle, Lord Protector's brother, Dowager Queen's husband and Elizabeth's guardian) who had some political skills to go with it would've made a brilliant career out of it. But Seymour was too rash, too reckless and too jealous. His character made him more suited to be some sort of a hotheaded adventurer, rather than politician. I also consider him a coward: in his rashness he never openly disobeyed widely-feared Henry VIII, he preyed on those he considered more vulnerable and weak, like young and inexperienced Edward VI, his brother Protector who had brotherly affection for him, unhappy and enamored Catherine Parr and teenaged Elizabeth who was placed under his wife's care. He only had some military skills.

Not really. The King killing off her mother and then killing Catherine Howard (and almost killing Catherine Parr) was what gave Elizabeth pause on marriage. Elizabeth's governess should have done a lot more to protect her from Seymour's advances, but she thought it was all good fun. She didn't think such good fun could have serious political consequences or go too far. As a result, Elizabeth came in danger of losing her head, and her reputation was sullied by rumours it got her pregnant. To this day, there is still speculation as to whether this happened.

One thing people often ignore is that while people were married off young, that only really applied to the upper class, as peasants could generally marry for love and they didn’t have any alliances that needed making, so they generally married in their twenties or thirties. Secondly, while the upper crust married young, the couple would generally live apart till they were older, people did atleast understand that giving birth to young did severe damage more often then not, for example when Margret Beaufort gave birth at thirteen, contemporaries were outraged and there’s even evidence that Edmund Tudor may have died as a result of purposeful mistreatment as a result.

Unfortunately this was typical and accepted male behavior for the times. You cannot go back 600 years and compare that life to our life today. Women have come a long way from those days. Be thankful you live in the 21st Century, but don't be so quick to judge or be critical of those who lived in the past. Today is an entirely different world

If you are going to split history at least get the terms correct. It is Cinque ports pronounced sink as in the French term for five.

Oh, relax! Don't be so over-dramatic! He was not 'evil' or even 'disgusting'; he was just a typical, political player of his time, just like so many are today. And when do our modern authority-seekers ever deny themselves the opportunity to take advantage of a woman for his own uses or fun? Mary Queen of Scots took advantage of men that way in her own way, why wasn't SHE 'disgusting' and 'evil'? And by the way, Queen Elizabeth never thought he was 'evil', and for the rest of her life, she wouldn't let anyone say anything bad about him in her presence. If he had been such a monster, she would not have done that.

This invective calling these males in Tudor history, as “evil and abusive “we know this from learning history we don’t need to have this rammed down our throat‘s as feminist dogma. We know and can infer that many of these men use these women for their own political gains and did some pretty despicable things. But also that continued right the way through up until mostly modern day. But you have to counter that with the research to prove that there are extreme and many examples of men treating women as valued peers within those periods. It wasn’t a constant stream of men beating and dominating women as you’re trying to make this out to be. There are many many other examples of Tudor women being horrific abusers against men and women in history. Namely countess Elizabeth Bathory, for one prominent example. You have a great content you’ve just ruined it with the insertion of feminist dogma. You can call them out all you want, but people who have common sense and studied history already know this. We know what the Tudor times, women didn’t have much equal rights but there were examples many many examples of very highly regarded and educated women and scholars within the Tudor period. Please stop making your channel a vehicle to rewrite divisionists history of feminism.

@@strawberribubbletea Yes I do dislike modern feminism, and I dislike the invective that modern feminist used to vilify people in history. When the history was from a very different era. And yes I am a woman and I don’t need modern feminism to advance my own career to advance my own interests I am a self-made woman. I have fought in some very difficult male-dominated field thrived and benefitted from them. When I see comments like this your shame game is based on the facts that you do not do research into the history of these commentators. This was the tutor era, women were expected to stay at home and serve the family. If the owner of this channel does research and does a deep dive into the history, she would have found that there were many many many exceptions that there were prominent Tudor women Who held very high office and had very exceptional scholarly, and educational contributions to society. So when you see a title “the disgusting evil of Thomas Seymour“ we know the history of what he did we know that we don’t need to put an emphasis on it to further a narrative to show that back in the day women were the most downtrodden and horribly treated in society. They didn’t have the same rights and privileges but that doesn’t negate the fact that there are many women in that era who contributed and were very highly valued for their intellectualism their scholarship their leader ship and many other social attributes that you the modern feminist seem to vilify. You do this through the modern context of that the modern feminist are oppressed you are not oppressed you are the most privileged highly entitled group of women I have ever known in my life. And to promote a narrative through the retrospective historical lens is intellectually dishonest. And if you say I have a hatred against feminism not the earliest feminists not at all I value them I respect them and I admire them deeply for their what they’ve done. However you modern feminist are lazy entitled and completely intellectually dishonest with your positions about how oppressed you are you are the least oppressed people in society.

@@GrumpyKitten375 and yet in the u.s. they just lost their right to abortion. Feminism is an ongoing cause. It’s still needed to fight things like rape culture and people who want to take women’s rights away. You honestly sound a little unhinged. You are so angry from an accurate description of this awful man. People have described awful women in history as “evil” too. Who cares? Call a duck a duck. And so people remind others how awful it was for women back then- who cares? Sometimes people need to be reminded how awful it was back then so we don’t forget and don’t take our rights now for granted. What do you gain from being so angry at feminism?
