Rulers still had to make sure that the peasants were happy, as most peasants had arms due to the threat of tyrannical leaders and the fact they made up the majority of the army during wartime. While it still wasn't a good life, it isn't anywhere near as bad as some think it is. (Unless you lost a war, then looting happens and that's as bad as you think it is)

Just to remind you, Guts came back for him, Guts and the gang risked everything to save him, took care of him and never gave up on him, yet after all of that, he was not content with just becoming the Godhand, no, he went to the deepest pits of evil and did that horrible thing to Casca just because. Keep in mind, he couldve become a Godhand member and ressurected his crew, he just didnt because he didnt want to. Griffith should get the infinite death loop like Diavolo but a million times worse.
He can’t resurrect those who have been branded as sacrifices due to their souls falling into the infinite void of torment with the apostles. That was the saddest realization I found reading Berserk at 13 years old 😭

He would've resurrected them if he was Griffith. That's Femto, like oh my god man there was a transformation that existed that stripped him of all good feelings like care and love. Not to say Griffith saw Casca and Guts get into a relationship while he was being tortured made him actively hate him to a particular extent instead of being apathetic. Not to say Guts was the face of his own psychological torture since it was the only thing that kept him from truly losing himself and having the semblance of consciousness that allowed him to still register and go through the pain and humiliation. At that time the Griffith(who was most likely in shock) just wanted Guts to go away from his mind. I'm just saying, if you think IF you had the power of Femto and were stripped of all good in your soul, you wouldn't do similar if not more horrific things than Femto you're laughably naive. read about the banality of evil.
Griffith was also castrated, SA'd and a bunch of other gruesome methods of torture. The anime truly doesn't do it enough justice as to the very extent Griffith was made broken.

@@Orcheis_ that's the underlying truth, yes. It's also true that berserk and Midland takes much inspiration from medieval Europe, and the Holy See mimics Christianity. That being said, in medieval Europe if a commoner or even a general (Griffith was both), snuck into the princess chambers and had sex with her, therefore stealing her virginity before she could be married, that would be considered treason. For the king, it would throw the kingdom into a nightmare of political and religious turmoil. So I know the king in berserk was gross and had a thing for his daughter, but even if he didn't he would still do the same and Griffith would still be guilty with said precontext.

I still think that miura wanted to show griffith's face in the end of the story. Since apostles rivert back to human meaning in the end Griffith would have turned back into the shrivelled body he had before the sacrifice. Just imagine Griffith laying flat on the ground helplessly while guts is standing over him and then we see his disfigured face for the first time

Griffith is one of the best written characters I have ever seen in a manga! He is one of my favorite characters to dislike and try to understand. To be honest, I still don’t think I completely understand him. Characters like him can evoke strong emotions in people.
Finally somebody who sees that Grifith as a complex enough character, to not just be reduced as “the bad guy". Berserk (just as life itself) is beyond “good and evil".

At first the story presents him as a young ambitious gentleman, but berserk is not a fairy tale with humans just battling monsters or demons, it is very realistic as the band of the hawk are not heroes but mercenaries, likeable and charismatic but murders for a hire. I don't think the Casca's incident was mainly for revenge but something deeper, I think it was Griffith testing if he had lost enough of his humanity, as the eclipse ritual per se, is how a person sacrifices his humanity for the sake of power. The torture to which Grifith was subdued is also something to consider (not for the sake of apologize), Grifith was extremely broken, both physically (he was even castrated) and mentally, when the temptation of the behelit was presented, so perhaps Femto as an inhuman being was just testing his regained “manhood” in the worst way posible, not for the sake of vengeance but for a primal instinct of asserting dominance; he was reduced to an almost carcass while the only man that has defeated him was complete and stronger that before.

Such things are very common, and part and parcel of a major "religion of Love" back then in the medieval ages(I can't mention it or else my comment gets removed). Removing the "sins" through all kinds of torture, etc. Or invading all other countries that are not a part of this religion, using God as their justification for war. It was a much more cruel time back then, in the middle ages.
I remember before SOTE came out i was so dang sure Miquella was gonna come out in a gay Batman suit at the end after seeing his crazy Griffith arm in the base game.
Miquella is basically Griffith. They both look incredibly similar, and are both manipulative power-hungry individuals. Hell, Miquella even tried to become a god, much like Griffith wanted to have god-like absolute power.

Maybe he believed it was for the greater good of Midland, or maybe it was selfish. Maybe it was something more twisted. Who knows. What we do know is that Miquella and Griffith both sought god-like power, they both look similar, and they both are manipulative and have done crazy things to obtain that power. Though it can definitely be debated which of them is worse (I’m going on a limb, and saying Griffith is significantly worse).
After spending a year being tortured, only knowing pain, losing all your human capabilities, living in the dark, losing all you have worked for in your whole live, not having any type of pleasurable experience, griffths just wanted to die man, he didnt wanted to be seen by his group members in such a disgusting and depradated state. He was weak and lost all the conditions to live by himself, this happening after him being able to achive his biggest victories, and maybe, he even could have become a king. I dont like griffth, he's now a member of Gods Hand, but he has a very, VERY bad past. 1 year of pure torture, many people cant compreehend how much hes been through. When he came out the torture chamber the only thing that passed his mind was suffering, and the only thing he wanted was survival and fulfilling his desires. Thats exactly what he did. He is a manipulator, but giving that much power for a person after that much horror was NOT going to be a pretty thing to see.

Bro I'm ot tryna be that guy but this is 1000x worse than anything guts has ever felt. Imagine getting your tendons cut, that alone is more than enough to make you feel pain. Not to mention, the torturer probably played with the cut parts too, probably forced him a ton of times and when you get tortured to your face, it's really painful. And he was tortured in the parts where the nervous system is complex. Meaning, he had to experience a lot of pain

Theres a guy i watched called Doc.offcall, who does nice reacts and honest doctor's opinions on injuries, loss of limbs and all vicious strikes and their impact on the body! He even did a video on Griffith's torture

Bare in mind people, false accusation doesn't directly mean someone who was innocent. You can still be falsely accused of something you're actually guilty of. The difference is if they have prove or not. If they don't have proof, it's a false accusation regardless of the reality of your guilt. All they had was the Princess' big mouth about sleeping together, which isn't treason.
Its important to note that the only thing that kept him going during that time was guts. Imagine not only being physically tortured, but also mentally, because the only person you can think of is the person that (at least in your opinion) is responsable for all this. In the end it wasn't his dream that burned him, it was his obsession. For him everyone else were pawns. Tools that he can use to achieve his dream. When he realized that his most important tool will not be his pawn anymore, something in him snapped. For him it felt like he was losing control, like his plans are about to fail. Thats why he slept with the princess out of the blue. He searched comfort and wanted to regain the control he lost. He wanted to know that his plans are still working out and that everyone was listening to his will. After he was done he realized that this will not bring guts back, that he is not in control anymore and that his plans did really fail, which scared him.
What’s even more unsettling is the fact that the torturer specifically states in the manga that they even played has “Husband and wife”…I’m pretty sure you can guess what else he did to Griffith not being able to fight back… 😬
The people saying guts suffered more but they forget,after that griffith literally couldnt walk neither fight,he was turn into a disabled person both of body and mind

He really could have avoided it all. I still don't understand why he slept with the princess. He easily could have waited for the king to promote him and for Charlotte to beg for his hand. She would have. She was going to leave her kingdom for a guy that couldn't walk, talk, or hold anything. Maybe he didn't think it possible because the king wanted her, but he should have known mocking him wouldn't do him any favors. For someone so calm and calculating, that part didn't make sense when I read it. He's no stranger to manipulation and he could have had the kingdom without all those extra steps. Being upset over Guts doesn't explain anything to me. He strategically disposed of his detractors, ended a 100 year war, and became a court favorite despite being a commoner. He could have even waited for the king to die and Charlotte could make the case for Midland's savior becoming its king

And can u imagine even after gutz saves him in the manga (i dont remember if they show it in the anime) griffith actually tries to strangle or choke gutz but since his tendons were cut gutz thought he was trying to give him a hug or sumn else
