As a Polin fan the lack of romance between them broke my heart. I am actually so upset they resolved their conflict in literally the last 10 minutes of the show. It was so hard to watch and felt so unnatural and rushed. They did Colin SO DIRTY.

I would say that Francesca and Michaela and John were disrespected as well. A big part of why When he was wicked is my favorite book is the fact that Michael was the one who fall in love at first sight and Francesca truly and deeply loved John during their marriage. And now they are hinting that Francesca fall first? And that her mother was right and the feeling for her husband is not love and more like a friendship kind of thing? So she's emotionally cheating on her husband from the day one of their marriage? It was supposed to be season about second chance love and about grief and now they will make it as if Francesca never truly loved John and it makes me sad
@prsexyness222
@prsexyness222 Месяц назад
I agree. I don’t, necessarily, mind that they change Michael’s gender but after all they went through to get married. She kisses him and feels nothing. I was so sad about that since I really like John. Even though I haven’t gotten to their book yet I do know what will happen to John 😭.
@MsSaintifik
@MsSaintifik Месяц назад
💯 and her grief and infertility was such a big part of their journey- now what? They could have created and introduced a spin off with lgb main couple or some side plot. Why take established story lines and twist them? And noT in a good way plot wise.
@udesivaliheg
@udesivaliheg Месяц назад
I totally agree. It changes all the dynamics between the protagonists. Beside that, in their story Michael also struggles with grief and with guilt, when he inherits the estate, he feels that he doesn't deserve it and he's stealing John's title, social position and wife. It complicates their feelings for each other. How the show will include this side of the story as Michaela being a woman can't inherit the title and estate (the whole Featherington plotline revolves around this) ? I don't know where the show wants to go with this gender change, but not towards the original story for sure. I don't care about the gender of Francesca's love interest, I care about the dynamics between the characters and the issues they struggle with. Francesca's book is a favorite to many women who struggle with infertility and grief. They can relate to it that after all the loss it is possible to find love again and have a family with someone else. And seeing this mess of a third season, I don't have any hope that the show will handle Francesca's season very well. At least with this showrunner. They should bring back Chris Van Dusen, the first and second season was far better than the third.

I can agree more, and the worst part for me is like they make Francesca dislike having a family like she wanted to be alone. I know she love her family, but they just make her she doesn't want any kids. And in the books she was in love with John, when they kissed on their wedding I got confused like you don't like him and they bring Michaela character out of not where, like a was forced so bad chamectry between them three of them.. I was so lost and confused 🙅🏽‍♀️

I can't believe Pen got zero romancing, and had to live in fear of being discovered/exposed the whole time. It was giving PTSD, not romance. It even basically ruined her wedding. She had to beg Colin to dance with her. AT HER OWN WEDDING. What the ever loving EF. Could we not let our girl enjoy a single moment of her lead romance show? Did Eloise ever apologize to her properly? Why didn't they help Cressida? It would have been in their own interest, even if they can't figure out it's the feminist thing to do because they're shallow about their feminism. I did not buy that a gossip column was gonna work going forward. It's just formal society papers from now on. And Colin was just a cardboard cutout for most of the show. I didn't buy a single thing about him, he was contrived, unpleasant and nonsensical. I don't understand why Francesca had to get married this season. She kinda stole the show from Penelope. Why are we doing this? It's more than setting up her season, it's the whole romance plus wedding! I get that stuff happens later with Michaela/Michael, and THAT'S her book's central romance, but did we have to set up a whole competing romance to the main one in THIS season? We could have done a couple episodes for the John Stirling romance in her season, and have the rest be about Michael/a. Waste of time here. I'm all for Ben's bi threesomes, but 1 of those scenes was interjected oddly between two other scenes like a non sequitur. There were other confusing cuts and camera angles. Why? These things work when they're for a storytelling reason. Not just for the sake of it. Ugh, splitting the season and delivering two perfunctory halves has drained a lot of air out of the Bridgerton balloon.
@monharris28

I was waiting for them to help Cressida. I was waiting for Eloise to return to Cressida and do something remarkable to help her new friend. That to me would've been feminist fire! I also didn't believe Lady Whistledown would continue. I was low key hoping it would encompass more voices, that Pen would take a back seat to help other women; the writer in me wanted Whistledown to be revamped in some way...I don't know.

I actually didn’t like bens bi threesomes in this season because there was just too much going on in the season. Francesca wedding, enter lord Debling and then sudden exit, Cressida’s predicament, lady whistledowns identity revealed, lady danburys problems with her brother, violet interested in her brother, the queens hunt down… it’s all exhausting. Maybe they should have saved it for his season. Nonetheless, I just feel like that’s all he does. The first 2 seasons I just remember: sex and art school. I would like to have seen more development of his character outside the arena of sex 😅this time around and push that to his season.

I was soooo excited to see a plus size woman about to be loved down, adored, and cherished bc women are all truly different and ALL deserve special moments no matter what. THIS was her moment! Why did he have sex with her before marriage?? That pissed me off. Next wth kind of sex scene was that? Why do they keep doing the hand job thing?? Why did he maintain the space that he kept in between the during the sex scene? It was so awkward. Also why the lounge chair, which looked very uncomfortable by the way? When they were in the mirror, she looked so innocent, youthful & ready to surrender. I expected him to kiss her all over and just rock her world. He should have gotten naked as well and started to kiss her - I understand that maybe the actor didn’t want to but here’s a million way they could have shown that. The rest of the scene was horrible. No softness, very clinical, when they could have shown them basked in a soft light, giggling, showing their faces, their bodies touching softly, the hugs, the comfort… Bah.

Apparently nobody eles is allowed to be depicted having real love and intimacy. If it is, the scene is always done comically, raunchy or completely unrealistic. I totally understand what you're saying. This was Penelopes first time, not Colins, he should know how to pleasure and be tender or eles what was the point of all that practice at the brothels? He should have blown her socks off lol. There is an appropriate and sensual way of depicting intimacy scenes without actually showing nudity and "graphic scenes." You would think a female writer got this correct because she knows and understands how she would want to be treated.

I felt disconnected with Eloise and Penelope regarding how they dealt with Cressida this season, in season one we were rooting for the ton's women to come through for each other via Violet Bridgerton using gossip to help Daphne out of the marriage she was being forced into. But when it came to Cressida no one was willing to hear or help her just because she's a bully? I thought immediately if I were Eloise- someone who KNOWS LADY WHISTLEDOWN, I would have appealed to Pen to help Cressida get out of that marriage because I don't care if someone mocks me- feminism will always mean helping a woman escape from a marriage that in this era will result in SA and forced pregnancies Our hearts weep for Lady Danbury when she confronts her brother about the pain of being trapped, but we're supposed to be on the same page as Eloise and Pen not giving a damn about Cressida and seeing themselves as victims just because Cressida obviously has no idea how to ask for help? I have a feeling the poor woman's "viper" approach would have melted immediately if either had just said "Cressida, you do not need to threaten me, ask me for help and I will help you" I don't need them to be perfect, I'm just a bit tired of women in fiction presented as feminists and then it turning out to be superficial/petty ideas of "feminism"

I think the thing that annoyed me with Benedict was the editing where they split up his sex scene (even though it is the same night) that it was getting in the way of the drama. I, for the first time, was like “Benny go away!”. If they kept it as a whole scene it would be less intrusive. Let’s be honest though, this is the same season that started a scary scene with Pen getting hurt by air balloon then did that wide shot where we all went “girl, just move”. Like.. directors and writers you couldn’t have had her dress hard stuck on an anchor holding down the balloon or her tight new shoes stuck in the mud? I also found the whole Colin having sex with Penn before their marriage a bit odd, considering in the past he’s wanted to protect the reputation of Penn and her family. That is exactly what Colin told Jack Featherington when he confronted him. To paraphrase Colin had said that it was only out of concern for the reputation of the Ladies Featherington, that he did not publicly reveal Jack’s scheme. So it seems odd that Colin would risk besmirching Penn’s reputation by having sex with her before marrying her. If I were writing it, leading up to the wedding there would have been , more longing, stolen kisses etc. Plus I think it would have been more meaningful for it to happen after he knew everything about Penn being Whistledown. It would have been a moment when they were bearing their true selves to one another and would have been more meaningful imo. I would have also liked it if Colin had been a virgin as well for their first time. Violet had described Colin as being “more sensitive “ at one point, so it was odd seeing him being with prostitues at the beginning of the season. Maybe that’s just me though…. I haven’t read the books but I’m just going off of what has been shown to us in the show…

I think the show did a very poor job executing details from the book. Obviously they were never going to be a one-to-one retelling, but they tried to keep parts from the book that no longer made sense with the direction the characters took in the show. There's a nearly 10 year time jump between Benedict's book and Colin's, so Book-Colin is 33. It makes sense that he's more world-weary, promiscuous, and bored with meaningless relationships. (Also, book-Colin has been traveling the world for YEARS, searching for a purpose and meaning to his life. When he finds out that Penelope is LW and has been a successful writer for 10 years, his brush with petty jealousy makes a little more sense. And it's barely even a plot point in the book; he knows he's being a shit about it and that he shouldn't be.) Show-Colin was portrayed as a young romantic idealist. I think show-Colin would be believable as a virgin who waits for "the one". Ultimately, I feel like the show has lost sight of what made it unique. Regency romance is all about the juxtaposition of the high class opulence with the restrained morals and social graces of the day. When the lead characters finally give into the physical urges they have been denying, it should feel significant, borderline life changing. I think that's part of what made season one so good. Daphne didn't even know what sex entailed and a significant portion of the story was dedicated to her and Simon's burgeoning desire for each other as well as her learning the layers of complexity regarding physical intimacy. That doesn't mean we need to always stick to the virgin woman/experienced man trope. I think Polin would have worked very well as two inexperienced characters learning the intricacies of sex and pleasure together through an emotional connection to each other.

@stephanierodriguez6164 oh i will not be good with word for word but what I like about the book version is that Eloise is never mad at Pen, she is shocked but she thinks its amazing that Pen has independent money and that Pen is brave. She understands her friend. Colin and Pen start to come closer more than friends when they discuss his writing and he founds out she is lady W. He is mad and jealous at first, scared for her. But then he admits he respects her move and asks for her opinion about his writing. So their relationship is starting to shift not only on long friendship and lust, but also discussions, mutual interests and secrets and jokes. They share very similar sense of humor at talk a lot at balls. The wedding and sex - everything happens after he knows who she is. He apologised for his behaviour and words before. He stood up for her on several occasions. He is very proactive when she needs help dealing with Cressida trying to be lady W. He is very happy to wed her and tells her HE loves HER multiple times.

Nicola and Luke deserved so much better!!! The sex scene should have been AT NIGHT! With the glow of the fireplace and the candles not in the harsh glare of daylight. That was so so not fair to the lovely Nicola!!! The couch looked terribly uncomfortable, my back ached for her watching them!! And yes the Colin we know would have done that AFTER marrying her. They rushed into the sex because they did not want them to get married b4 he knew she was LW but they could have delayed the marriage and consumation a bit -at least one episode, worked in more yearning Colin's part - show him being tempted but having to wait. Focus more on them than the other 1000,000 sub plots😢. The people who watch this show are not here for a mystery show or something. The ppl watching this are here for the 2 main ppl, the man yearning for her. After Colin discovers she is LW they should sort through his fury and resolve it then they consummate their marriage and work together trying to shield her from the discovery until she is outed. That way we still get some more loving intimacy with them. We never even saw them make love or cuddle in their bedroom until the 2 seconds at the end!!! He slept on the couch from day 1 of their marriage till the end of the season!!! I am just Horrified!!! ...This is just me but when he was entering her wouldn't it have been amazing if he suddenly buried his face in her neck and whimpered about how tight she was and how he does not want to hurt her too much before he continued. Luke N would have killed it. The writers were far more focussed on feminist ideals than on the romance for her.
@awsome182
@awsome182 Месяц назад
In the book, Colin and Penelope sleep together before they get married. So them having sex before marriage in the show is true to the book and true to Colin and Penelope. Also, in the book, Colin is the very first one to find out that Penelope is LW and the "carriage scene" actually happens right after he found out and he *still* asks her to marry him. Which I find more powerful that he knows she's LW and wants her nevertheless. The quarrels they have in the book is because he wants her to stop to protect her, she promises him to stop and then writes a piece to explain that she's not Cressida and Colin feels betrayed because she didn't tell him and she broke her promise. However, when Cressida blackmails Penelope, it's Colin who jumps into action, he's the one who announces to everyone that Penelope is LW and he does so with pride and love, he openly admires Penelope for her wits and intelligence and her skills.

Worst season, so much disappointment i dont even know where to start. They should ve kept Chris as a show runner. The costumes are all over the place now, tacky, shiny, synthetic fibers. At least Pen looks good most of the time. Make up - again tacky - smokey eyes, too much shimmer and glitter, fake nails and eye lashes. The sex… i m so sorry but it was the most unrealistic scene ever. The pacing is off. The camera angles are strange and unflattering. The script - oh dear the sript, most generic lines ever - where is the language of Simon and Kate? Where are passionate heated elaborate dialogues from before? And 2 main characters are WRITERS! And they talk in the most generic 21c way. The drama is so artificial. Eloise os so out of character a lot of the times. Way to many plot lines - what was the point of the most of them? Do not even make me start on Cressida, her plot line. Character development is generally so bad and illogical this season. It is Polin season but we barely see them. She is way more into him. Thank you for the apology to Polin shippers. I was so angry at Pen groveling and showing her love to Colin while Colin is being white man angry over Pen being successful. Boy needed to romance Pen. We got no time of them loving each other. One scene! Cressida, I struggle say she deserved better, but the writers worked to make her an empathetic villian (which is my subtitle for this season between her, Pen, and Lady Featherington) but gave her no Redemption. Girlie was the mirror for Colin and Eloise this season and we get nothing for her!! Also- Lady Featherington was the one who noted the mean things Pen said about herself and not Colin or Eloise?! Shame. But I want to give you, Noria, your flowers for calling Lady Featherington the girls girl. I do wonder if Ben could have a male love interest next season, to be his Sophie. We have gender bending in Michaela and queer romance. We at least know not every Bridgerton love story will be straight. Is Michaela going to be Gentleman Jack like? The actress is pretty but during most of the scenes she looked like she had the wrong shade of foundation. Her clothes looked so tight on her -- she looked like an oompa loompa. This whole season was a mess and they really need to fire the showrunner who has no clue how to do her job or even knowledge of the most basic elements of storytelling like precedence, congruencey, continuity, and foreshadowing. All were at times tossed aside and forgotten. We can only suspend belief so far til it's just sloppy, bad writing that makes no sense. One thing I WILL credit them for is I loved that they had Pen clean up her own mess rather than have Colin do it, as he did in the books. She did it her way like the badass career woman she is. She got to placate the Queen's ego to allow the Queen to save face, got to apologize to the ton her way, got to ingratiate herself with her sisters and finally her mother, help her mother out of the 'where'd the money come from' fiasco, got Eloise back as her friend, Gave Cressida her comeuppance, and got Colin's respect back while allowing him to save face too, all while looking spectacular. I loved it. That was well done (rushed and not fleshed as it could have been, but well done). I'm so glad she got to do it herself her way rather than be 'rescued' which is the one thing in the book I didn't like. Colin barely batted an eye when he thought Cressida was LWD after saying he'd destroy LWD if he ever knew who she was. He was just like, eh, whatever, yet when Pen was LWD, he went berserk and then soon after, he's main beef was he was jealous? He wasn't jealous when it was Cressida. My MAIN beef though was the change of Michael to Michaela. What a mess. Fire the showrunner for this alone. Aside from my personal desire to see Michael's character on screen because he's the hottest character in the series and I was most looking forward to it and am NOT amused they've erased him...my practical side has a beef too. Precedent: They set the precedent that one gets hanged for gay or bi behavior. They had Fran say all she wanted was a husband, kids, and quiet and that it was the noise and chaos that made her want to run to the highlands with John. She loved John because he was quiet and he understood her. With her adoring looks at him, we see how much she loves him for him. She has never once given a longing look at a woman, had close female friends, said anything whatsoever to indicate she had any interest in women. Out of character for her, she fights her mother and even states to the Queen that she loves John and wants to marry him. Through Eloise's rantings we set precedent that supports that a woman can't be an Earl, can't inherit a title, etc. Through Portia's drama we set precedent that if a titled noble dies, the next male heir inherits his title and lands potentially leaving his widow out in the cold with nothing. Yet...we are to believe that on her wedding day, John gives her the barest of a kiss at the altar and she makes a bit of a face of disgust then 2 mins. later meets Michaela and (as Violet just indicated happened to her) she forgets her name and falls in love with her? This loud, chaotic woman who is the opposite of what all character development indicated Fran is attracted to? No, not buying it. She didn't stop loving John 2 mins. after marrying him. And they will need to essentially toss the entire book they're claiming to adapt and rewrite a new one because NOTHING that happens in her book can happen if Michael is a woman. Michael falls for Fran at the wedding, but she is clueless to it as she loves John. Michael becomes her friend. Michael becomes the new Earl with John dies 2 yrs after marriage with no kids and promptly agonizes as he thinks he willed it to happen because he'd wanted his wife for so long so now he has to disappear to India to agonize because he feels he can't be the Earl AND take John's wife, thereby erasing John and assuming his life. She thinks he's a major rake and hates him for abandoning her in her time of need as she grieves her husband. Eventually, they work that out and she spends a long time depressed because she is desperate to have children and it's not happening. It's all she wants. Finally, after a talk with her Mom who somehow 'absorbs her pain', they have 2 kids and live happily ever after. So...Michaela can't be an Earl. She can't inherit. Where do they go when the new Earl shows up to claim the land and title? Who IS the new Earl? Fran and Michaela can't very well move back to London and get a house together and live a normal life, so how's that gonna work so they don't get hanged? They can't have the 2 kids so Fran's desperation to be a Mom is moot. So...what exactly happens in Fran's story then? She gonna cheat on John? He gonna live so she can stay at his place and cuckold him? If he dies is she gonna marry someone who will let her keep her girlfriend? Literally none of it makes sense. If they wanted to do this, pick a character who's story doesn't involve an Earldom and the man who takes over the Earldom. Eloise could have met Phillipa, a widow with 2 kids, and her story wouldn't have had to change overmuch. That would have worked. If they felt it HAD to be Fran, lay some groundwork in advance so we at least believe it's reasonable. They didn't. We don't buy it. Infuriating and very very bad writing. They ruined what could have been the best season in the series with this nonsense. It's akin to outta nowhere making her a daylight living, vegan vampire or an alien. No precedent. No continuity. No congruency, No foreshadowing. Fire the damn showrunner before she makes the whole rest of the series a trainwreck.

The girls, from Penelope to Eloise to Francesca, looked like they were makeup influencers on Tiktok and had a bad case of “iPhone face”. The show had an interesting premise at the beginning but has quickly become a mess. With all of the changes made to the show (e.g. changing Michael’s gender. Really, Netflix? Are you that creatively bankrupt?), Netflix should have just made their own show and characters rather than piggybacking off a decent book series.

Suddenly, when she's interested in a man, she's wearing dark gray and near black colours? Those are traditionally seen as colors of mourning in this time period. It was just such an odd color choice for her. And yes, poor Cressida's costumes. Nearly every single reactor commented how her shoulders kept getting larger and larger. I was 10 minutes into the second part and the only thing I could think was how much I didn't care. How much potential Colin and Penelope story could've had if they didnt rush everything. As a viewer who didn't read the books at all, their love doesn't feel genuine to me. I don't know why colin likes pen other than that they are friends, or why pen likes colin other than that she has had a crush on him for the longest time. I felt that in previous seasons they had more to them than this season. Everything felt rushed and half cooked. There were too many stories going on. They hyped us so much for this season and delivered nothing. And with how good the previous seasons were, especially season 2, it is an abomination. They have sorely disappointed us all.

I have come to realize the actor that plays Colin is part of the problem. He is not very good at emoting what the scene calls for. Whether upset, happy, tense, mad, seductive, he consistently has this deer in headlights look in his eyes. I just don’t by their “love” or connection or whatever

Agreed. I also think it was made more obvious because Nicola is a much stronger actor than he is. She emotes her emotions so well that they’re palpable. She outshined him and because he couldn’t match her I kind of feel like that’s how we’re left feeling she was still the one doing the yearning when it should’ve been him. I think Lord Debling was a stronger lead.

@@rachels1226 Nicola is a spectacular actress. I went back and watched season 1 and what stood out to me is how effective she played Penelope’s shy immaturity towards Colin in nonverbal ways. The way she sort of seemed unbalanced in her steps when she would approach him. The eager child-like eyes, the fidgeting & longing looks. She embodied every emotion she was meant to display. Whereas Colin was like a smartphone with only 2 functions, talk and end call.

It seemed like Colin cared more about pen in part 1 even though they were friends. I understand he should be angry about lady whistledown but the comment he made about pen entraping him was just so wrong . Like you are the one who brought her to an empty house without a maid. He was not supportive or protective of her at all. They should have had a better ,more serious conversation about lady whistledown. One of the things the book did right was that Colin really was impressed the moment he found out about it. He had his angry moments but it was clear it was because he was worried about her and wanted to protect her. In the show seemed to me like he just wanted to crush that part of her because of jealousy and he kept disrespecting and disregarding her. Which is something you wouldn't do if you truely love someone. When Pen asks him why he is being distant he says he doesn't know . He should have at least gave her a reason. I felt like he was just trying to be controlling and when she said she wouldn't stop her writing just because he says so , he wouldn't accept it. The love confessions didn’t really hit either. They kept saying "I love you " so many times it lost its spark. There were some good distinct love declarations in the book like there was for anthony and they should have used that . Or at least written something better. Overall I felt more love between them in part 1 . Part 2 seemed really flat to me. Even the carriage scene and their first kiss felt much more romantic and intimate than the scenes in part 2. Also I don't like what they did with Eloise. First she comes to her and says stop writing for my brother and also because she is envious of her. Then when her family's reputation is in danger she asks her to write again . And when Colin finds out She is like this has nothing to do with me solve it yourself. Like??? The Eloise we knew from past seasons wouldn't say that. Especially now that they have resolved things about Whistledown. Neither Colin nor Eloise supported Pen when she needed it the most. I feel like none of them deserve her. The other storylines were all over the place. The family scenes we so loved previously were nowhere to be found . Violet was so invested in Francesca even though its Colin's season not hers. Too many sex scenes from Benedict which I had to skip. Cressida's and the Mondrich's storyline went nowhere with all that screentime they had. The lady whistledown reveal was not done properly . The should have excluded Portia from finding out sooner so we would have at least have eloise ,colin,and pen as a trio . And it should have been Colin holding her hand before the reveal . Instead he wasn’t even near her.Like this is their love story not pen's story. Also what the hell are they gonna do now that everyone knows? You can't spill the beans on people if they know who you are and get away with it. Also the point was that Pen was so invisible she could hear everyone' private conversation. Now that everyone knows who she is how the hell is she going to get information. In conclusion when I watched part 1 I felt the flow of storylines was not great but I liked the main couple story and had high hopes for part 2.But the writing really disappointed me. Also they are stepping away from reality a little too much. The bttuerflies and the flower thing an the balloon , the makeup,etc. It is just making it so different from the previous seasons and not in a good way. We still want to see that era with the rules and aesthetic not whatever this is supposed to be. I am all for lgbtq. But if they want one of the main storylines be queer what would be the end of it? They can't still maryy in that period. I suspect they would want to change the rules in society. But it wouldn't be the 1800s anymore!!! If you modernize the rules , the costumes , the looks , what are you left with?And for Francesca's story she has struggles with child loss and infertility.They destroyed half of her story with this move. Imagine Simon was a woman . The second part of season 1 wouldn't exist. The changes the new show runner is making would be the downfall of bridgerton. I myself am no longer interested or excited for new seasons. My expectations are very low right now and I think I even might drop the show.

All drama (that didn't even feel intelligently written) and very small scenes that were supposed to be romantic but kinda just fell flat. Nicola and Luke have better chemistry IRL than was portrayed in the show and I think it's entirely the fault of the writers. Everything--from Polin, to Cressida + the Whistledown storyline, to Will's club, and so on--just left so much to be desired. This season was squashed full of all the drama and yet it felt empty in a way season one and two didn't. And now we have to wait two years?! Colin was low key abusive imho. Or at least, there were some major red flags, which, in the real world, would make me want to avoid him like the plague. - His love for Penelope came out of nowhere really. All of the sudden we were supposed to believe he loved her. He basically destroyed Pen's chances with Lord Debling, immediately proposed to her, had sex with her, told her he loved her. It felt like lovebombing more than anything else. - He kind of bullied her into giving up Lady Whistledown for a while. Yes, Pen wasn't perfect, spreading gossip about others. Him being a bit angry about it for a while wouldn't have been that bad. But him basically demanding she give up her dream and her income is not. - His lack of communication when he found out also wasn't cool. When you are angry with one another, you talk. You don't get to sulk like he did. - He basically ruined Pen's wedding and wedding night. Making her cry on her wedding day is unforgivable. During the sex scene, all I was thinking is that it made me feel uneasy. I knew it was Bridgerton, so there would be a happy ending, but I would totally believed it, if it had been a thriller, with him murdering her in the end.

Can we also talk about the fact that Colin and Penelope were side characters in their own season? The Mondrich family added nothing to the story, so they shouldn’t have been added to begin with. Netflix screwed the pooch on this one. George RR Martin said it best. “No matter how major a writer it is, no matter how great the book, there always seems to be someone on hand who thinks he can do better, eager to take the story and "improve" on it. "The book is the book, the film is the film," they will tell you, as if they were saying something profound. Then they make the story their own. They never make it better, though. Nine hundred ninety-nine times out of a thousand, they make it worse.”

Like how dumb do you have to be to continue pining after someone who never even loved you and shows no remorse in how they treated you? Only for him to comeback season 3 to continue throwing it in Penelope’s face that’s she “ruined” Marina. Um no Marina did that herself and all that left me feeling was that he still had unresolved feelings (not necessarily love because he knew nothing about Marina but he still thought about her). Then to accuse Pen of entrapping him like sir take a step back and let Lord Debling take care of our girl. How quick he was to forgive Marina and still consider her but he could “never forgive” his best friend for helping him out of horrible situation. 🤬

Penelope discovered her strength and self-worth during this season, while also confronting the hypocrisy of everyone else in her life (including us, the viewers). The biggest hypocrite of all is Eloise. How can she advise Penelope to give up her life’s work? So unlike her. Still, Penelope remained steadfast in her love for Eloise, even though she didn't deserve it. Penelope doesn't need saving, she realizes; she can stand on her own, even publicly. For Colin, this means he doesn't have to maintain the rigid masculine facade he had at the beginning of the show; he can finally be his sensible self. I hope they're having a better sex life now, for Penelope's sake.

It is so unbelievable how many things were so disappointing. It makes so much sense why though - the showrunner/writers were different on this season. She does not know how to SHOW a story, much of it was a lot of telling. Resolutions almost out of thin air lol Where was: - interactions, activities - main couple focus - romance - Colin's yearning - Penelope being on the powerful side of their romantic dynamic and having Colin wrapped around her finger - Eloise building up to the realization she needs time outside society - Lord Debling who vanished lol - Mondrich's storyline that also vanished - Cressida's redemption/exit from being a meangirl

And like you said, there was a lack of conversations, or rather it felt like a lot of people were talking and the people they were talking to weren't really listening, and rather than point out the insensitivity of the people not listening, the season tried to make the blame be on the people who were talking and sharing their burdens or secrets. A real mess if we're being honest.

Kate and Anthony got very little screen time because of the Jack Featherington side plot, and now in this season which is supposed to be Polin's, they got overshadowed by multiple things: Benedict's usual trysts, like seriously, they dumbed him into a rabid dog who only likes to sleep around, and by the Mondriches and their life story, and Francesca, with that horrible reveal of the cousin being a woman, that completely dismantles the whole novel. Kate and Anthony the head of the household, disappear after the first episode, and then they come back only to decide to go to India on a 6-month journey on a ship, while Kate is pregnant? And do we seriously need a Lady Danbury's brother side plot with Violet???? Heck, even Cressida got more screentime with Eloise and then with the Whistledown thing!!! Make it make sense. I know it is an alternate reality, but it's not supernatural either! Netflix and Shondaland disappointed us this time. Also, the makeup. It is a regency show set in the 1800s, make the looks regency coded? Nope. The first two seasons had excellent makeup and clothing, but this one? Pen's wedding makeup was looking like she had two tomatoes printed on her cheeks. Francesca and Kate were drowning in highlighter glitter. Daphne's absence was already being felt, now looking at where things are going, the actors of Kate and Anthony will leave too. This reminds me of the Divergent series, that started off so well, and then they changed the whole story to the point the movies got canceled. At least last season, Johnny Bailey and Simone got some superb monologues, unlike Luke and Nicola, who had such simplistic dialogues. I feel so bad for Luke And Nicola, they deserve so much better as such quality actors.

I haven’t seen the other two seasons and only decided to watch this one bc I’m a fan of Nicola since Derry Girls. I read Polin book too just to have a better idea. This was such a letdown. I hope the other two seasons are better cause otherwise I don’t understand the hype about the show. First, Polin has barely any chemistry. They’re saying the right words but the connection is missing, especially from Colin. The lack of chemistry also made the love scenes very awkward. It’s as if they were just going through the motions. What I’m most pissed off about though is how little Pen and Colin bonded over their writing and the Queen outing her. In the book these scenes are some of the best where you can really feel their love. Colin is the one to ask Pen to edit his manuscripts and he respects her as a writer despite simultaneously having his own insecurities about it. The scene in the book where Pen is reading his stuff and he is sitting nervously in the chair, fidgeting, it’s one of the cutest. In the show however we end up with her offering and him turning her down. The freaking disrespect. Also, in the book, he’s the one to tell the ton at the dukes ball that she’s LW. He didn’t discuss it with her beforehand, so slightly problematic, but still. That was the moment that he showed her in front of everyone that not only did he accept her being LW, but he supported and was going to be by her side regardless of the consequences from the reveal. After being a dick to her for a while, he mostly redeemed himself there. What we got on the show though was an atrocity. Pen could have given her empowering speech after Colin told everyone. If the writers wanted to make changes, they could have started with some of Colin’s more problematic behaviors from the book. In more than one instance he gets physical with her, grabbing her too tightly intending to hurt her. Change those. Ben’s bisexual story was fine. Didn’t care much for it. From part 1 of season 3, it didn’t seem like a stretch he’d go for it but it did take up too much time that should have been spent on Polin. The Michaela reveal I don’t know how to feel about. I’m in support of inclusion but it also doesn’t feel right. J+F were a highlight of the season. I think M shouldn’t have been introduced just yet or maybe not give us their love story at all so that we wouldn’t get attached. I don’t think I’ll be watching the rest of the show. Two years between seasons it’s ridiculous for a show that’s supposed to have so many.

Thank you for such an insightful take on this season. So many things bothered me and you put it into concise thought. While the entire season wasn't bad (there were some good moments) and I was moved to tears once or twice which is the only season that did that to me, overall I felt unsatisfied with the season. I didn't think about it being a new show runner until I read some of the comments below. That makes perfect sense. Yes, the makeup and costumes took me out of the story at times (specifically the metallics which reminded me of 80s prom dresses, the highlighter on so many actresses, and Cressida's shoulder pieces...scheesh!). Then there were choppy editing and the camera angles which sometimes made me feel like a drunken sailor. The too many sub-plots. For example the Mondrich/Kent subplot. I know they weren't in the books, but I do think they are a lovely addition to the show and I feel like the season started out with such promise for them, then bam! It fell flat before completely disappearing They made such a fuss and it died with a whimper. Why even bother? Not to mention, that whole storyline could have easily been delayed for a season or two to give more room for our main couple. While it did seem so rushed as to make me doubt the sincerity, I am glad the Featherington ladies are all getting along now and on their way to being a proper family like the Bridgertons. Mostly, though, I don't like the way they handled Colin and Penelope's story. I think the actors did the very best they could with the direction and lines they were given. They are so cute and it was a shame how, to use your word here, disrespectful the show runner/directors were with them. Colin told Penelope that he tried to be the man society expected him to be, but couldn't. And yet, he was still behaving so poorly after they got together. He never properly apologized to her for what he said. He never acknowledged that she hurt herself in LW as much as she did his family. He told Eloise all he wanted was what was best for Penelope, but doesn't really extend that to Penelope herself. I get that he's hurt and lashing out, but he should still remain true to himself. When they were in the street the night before their wedding and he's attacking her for what she said in LW about Marina, I wanted to scream. If I remember correctly, she did try to warn him that it was entrapment and he brushed her off as if she were a child who didn't understand. She didn't tell him that. Instead, she just told him he was right. WHaT? I hate that they didn't let him find out about LW before they were familiar (as Prudence would say). It did make it feel like an entrapment of sorts and that is not Pen and Colin and the relationship they had in the books, or even in the show up to this point. They wanted a friends to lovers trope, but friends--if they truly loved each other and wanted the best for each other--would have found a way to discuss it and deal with it first. They did a great disservice to their romance by having him find out after. It's like not only did they get a new show runner, but the entire production/writing staff is new to the show as well. How else could you explain such changes not only from the books, but also from the characters themselves as written in the past two years of the show?

One of the things that I found disrespectful and bothered me the most was when Colin said he would go talk to Cressida after she threatened Pen, I expected him to stand up for Pen. Say things such as "How dare you think you can threaten my wife or talk to her like that?" Like where are the men that are so protective of their wives and cant stand anybody hurting them???? If it was Anthony standing up for Kate he would not care about anybody else and would go absolutely feral if anybody so much so as thought of hurting her. Colin speaking to Cressida was such a weak scene, not only did he not stand up for his wife, but he worsened the situation. Why did he think reasoning with Cressida was a good idea??? Is he a fool?

Thank you for this video it is a balm after fighting for my life to get through the middle of part B only for all the interesting things to happen at the end. This season was about as consistent lumpy, bumpy and out of wack. There were some honestly good moments FIGHTING for their lives and the so much weird filler that they didn’t even have time for. An absolute mess and only entertaining sometimes. I get that they were trying to make friends to lovers work but they didn’t know what they were doing. The lust and desire just wasn’t there. They tried to pretend that showing close ups of her body would cover that but as beautiful as she is that’s not the point. All of our lead women are beautiful what brings it to life is how the men of this show treat each of their partners like their goddesses especially during intimate scenes. They worship them as rightfully so and I’m not a Pollen fan but they didn’t give that to her and that’s upsetting. In their intimate scenes it still felt like he was the prize and she was just lucky to be with him. I needed MUCH more simping and can’t keep their hands off each other passion. Also now I MUST read When He Was Wicked because I don’t trust Bridgerton not to bow out before giving us a full lesbian season. I also hated that Pen has a baby in the end like what can’t they just be hot and fuck in peace for a bit. They resolved the heir issue there’s no need for a baby race anymore. Bridgertons breeding kink is showing.

I dislike how they made it seem that Violet was hesitant to support because she didn't understand how Francesca loved Kilmartn (b/c he's so quiet and peaceful). I think the writers dropped the ball making Francesca speechless when she saw Michaela after showing the viewers her disappointment with the wedding kiss. It just felt backwards because they made it such a point that love doesn't have to be hard, love doesn't always make you crazy, speechless, and suddenly she's very flustered and lost for words with Michaela. However, I noticed Michaela didn't know who Francesca was(implying John didn't tell her) so I'm choosing to interpret Franc's reaction as a result to this(being asked who are you by John's cousin) The way Eloise treated Cressida was very uncalled for and she of all people should've extended some grace to Cressida. It just felt like the writers didn't want to put energy into their fallout so they used the reconciliation of her friendship with Pen as an escape...very disappointing. I also dislike how the writers made it seem like she was completely blind sighted by Polin when she saw them interacting multiple times

for me, Pen's character receives alot of development in the form of mending broken relationships (her fam- Portia especially and Eloise). However, her relationship with Colin is underwhelming and depressing because she feels constantly alone. Colin had everyone's right to be angry and the duration of his anger is not the problem; my problem is he was very distant to the point it felt he almost didn't love her nearly as much as he claimed. There were so many opportunities for him to still love on her and every time the writers fumbled. I was very displeased with the writer's decision to make Colin say his I love you speech after the queen's approval. It just made his speech feel less touching for lack of better words(though I enjoyed the speech itself). In sum, I think the lovers part of the trope suffered because the writers dragged out the LW drama, made Colin physically distant(and by default inconsistent emotionally) from Penelope when that was what she needed the most. There weren't enough balance between sad Pen/sad and angry Colin and happy blissful Polin moments which could've easily been fixed.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! You spoke exactly about what was on my mind…After eagerly waiting through two entire seasons, we were all looking forward to finally seeing the development of Penelope and Colin's relationship. However, it feels like the show didn’t deliver as much as we hoped it would. One of the most crucial points of disappointment this season is the limited focus on Penelope and Colin. After the buildup in previous seasons, we were expecting their story to take center stage and be as engaging and thorough as Daphne and Simon’s or Anthony and Kate’s. Instead, it feels like their relationship was overshadowed, leaving many of us wanting more. Additionally, they detached Colin completely from the character we knew from the previous seasons. They destroyed the kind and loving character we grew to know and love. This change only added to the disappointment, as it made it harder to connect with his journey and the romance we were all rooting for. And don’t let me even start on the fact that Ben got almost 20 minutes of intimate scenes, meanwhile our main couple got max 10. This imbalance only highlights the lack of focus on Penelope and Colin’s relationship, which was supposed to be the main attraction this season. Penelope and Colin's dynamic has been a slow burn, and that anticipation only heightened our expectations. The promise of their romance was a key reason many fans were excited for Season 3. We hoped to see their characters grow individually and together, but the screen time and depth given to their story didn’t match our expectations or the development seen in the first two seasons with the other lead couples. After getting the second part of the season, I thought we would finally get the rich, satisfying storyline we’ve come to love. Instead, we were left with a sense of disappointment.

I hope someone is eventually going to talk about the disrespect by the lighting department, makeup, and director. Whoever thought that giving Colin that many wrinkles in low lighting is absolutely shameful. He looks 60 instead of 20’s.

Before I even start the video, I was hoping that when Penelope sent the note, she would ask the queens help in keeping her identity and dealing with Cressida to give her some kind of good outcome. I couldn’t stand her for two seasons but I found myself rooting for her for some reason.

I really wish we saw more of Polin's romance.... I don't understand the direction in which they taking the show.... I agree with most of what you said.... but the rest..... the deviation from the book too much they should really give the show an entirely different name.. if you love the book you not going to like some of the recent changes they made.... just a thought
