PINKIE GAL that’s not the problem honestly 10 year gap isn’t so dramatic if you’re 20 and your husband/boyfriend 30 idk, but if your underage it’s a different story...
Honestly, I still like the movie just no longer into the main ship anymore. The main thing that I am still into is the friendship and the music. Drew and Selena didn't have to portray a relationship for this movie so it could be a better one.
@@marsmontufar6319 wym ONLY ten years???? it would be ok if they were both adults but selena was a whole minor. yeah they're acting but it's still creepy as fuck
Marcela Montufar addressing your first point, I think there’s a significant difference between a 30 and 40 year old(as they are full grown adults) and a 15 and 25 year old
All of the “teens” in the movie were between 22-31 years of age. Selena was the only one who was actually a teenager. One of the step sisters was 31...
I mean I get why she was creeped out but tbh that’s the acting world for you. So many people who are way older play high school students, and as long as within the story they are around the same age it’s kinda ok with me, and the kiss is literally something that actors have to do anyway. I’m not saying they should have casted a 26 yr old to kiss a 15 yr old, but I’m just saying I’m not surprised...
It's called inconsistent casting and writing, showing how badly done the film was in general, without people overreacting about the actors not playing roles of characters who are their ages, regardless of voice actors often playing characters 10+ years younger than them!
@@michaelfireheart8300 the way you’re going all out to defend this shit is crazy... sounds like you can relate to this situation cause i don’t know why you up here in the comments defending this... 15 year olds being casted with 26 year olds in a romantic relationship is weird and i don’t know how you can’t see that, you must be guilty.
@@kae4913 Michael Fireheart clearly wasn't defending the age gap. He was explaining the reason why Joey was the age he was in Mary's video of her dancing as a little girl. The character Joey isn't meant to be an adult they just didn't hire someone to play tween Joey. Just because someone says something other than "Ew the age gap is gross" doesn't automatically mean they're arguing that the age gap justified or some nonsense. Honestly actually fully read and comprehend people's comments BEFORE turning the torches and pitchforks at them.
As a kid, I remember watching this and thinking “She looks a lot younger than him” but I never actually looked into it. Would it have been so hard to cast another 15 year old???
From what I am told when you sign with Disney, they typically sign people for 7 years and essentially have to do anything the say in that time period. Drew Seeley was signed to the singing voice for Troy HSM. But, they didn't wind up using him for the sequels so I think they just had to put him somewhere.
Like people wouldn't still have issues with underage dating? No matter what, when doing a romance film you'll get backlash and it's why they're rarely done or why they use fanfics to reduce the amount of backlash.
sadly it isn't even that surprising since hollywood has a pattern with age gaps with often the woman - or in this case girl - being much younger (i say often bc it's hollywood and they fuck over any young actor no matter the gender)
I think it's really wrong that her parents consented to their kissing and being physically close in the movie (and that it was socially accepted and technically still is). I feel her having an intimate relationship with a guy that much older than her (even if its just on film) and being underage just can't be mentally healthy and i feel sad that nobody in her life protected her from this.
Protected her from acting? You do realize the point of acting is being a different person, right? It's why so many movies have actors being different ages, so your logic here is pretty flawed not to mention how your implications are literally making this situation into something it's not.
@@michaelfireheart8300 I think it's just about the implications outside of this movie. Lots of very young actresses get exploited. This movie definitely wasn't that bad since they played a very light romantic relationship etc and i do agree it's also unhealthy to victimize Selena and claim she needed "protection". However, many young actresses were thrown into over sexualized situations and weren't protected and it negatively impacted them. But also being a different person or not doesn't change the real gap between them. Two 20 year olds playing 16 year olds and kissing is very different than a 15 year old and 26 year old playing 16 year olds and kissing etc.
a good example is starstruck danielle campbell was 15 years old só disney didn’t put any kiss scene also charlie from lemonade mouth was supposed to date mo, but the actor was 13 and they decided to not get them together
@@michaelfireheart8300 Its weird that a 26 y/o man was allowed to have a relationship with a 15/16 y/o old girl. It doesn't really matter if it was a movie or not. It's just the acting age difference was weird and its mentally dangerous for kids to kiss older people. Its like being groomed.
Fun fact: they filmed this movie at my school (well the majority of the school scenes). We were literally always just around them while they were filming loll. Except for the two main dance scenes (where she's in the red dress and the ending competition thingy). Selena was actually so nice, and she was like the one who stayed in the hallways to take pictures with us, Drew Seeley and Marcus Paulk did too but they didn't stay around as long as Selena!
He sucks in some stuff but he’s pretty great in some stuff like The Social Network! Also, Trin should check Out a more range of movies like The Social Network
No bc He did Britney Spears dirty by putting her in his music video causing so much media turmoil for her when she chose to be the bigger person not putting him on blast. He literally used her to start his solo career and become “Justin Timberlake”
As a 26 year old I can’t even imagine how he could have been comfortable filming this movie. Like bro she’s 15 you’re flirting with 30 you should be eyeing up a 401K.
It's a Disney movie. He's been tied to Disney like that for years. He's still doing voice work - he was even doing vocals for King Ben of Descendants... So I think... In those days it was the bag and now it's the contract.
I love how trin was like "the best movie in cinematic history" and then she realized the actors have 10 years age gap and she was like "this sucks" 😂 Her reactions are hilarious 😂😂
It’s funny how when you are like 8 you kinda believe teenagers are adults and cannot decipher the ages just young and old but now that we’re of age the difference is so obvious not just in looks but in mindsets too. Selena’s voice is so high 😭😭
Baaah, for that matter, the only realistic Cinderella movie was the one with Brandy : first prince of all time not being wandering around without his glasses put on and then be able to recognize her instantly 😂
It’s Cinderella lol. In the real Cinderella he can’t recognize her bc she changes from a fancy dress to a peasant dress,.. even though nothing was covering her face and she didn’t change her hair or voice LOL. I’d say this is a step up. At least she had a half a mask on. 😹😹
Hahaha heater being a thing is so funny because I listent to this song like 5 months ago and I loved it but couldend ever imagine it would be a trend hehehe
I don't mind age gaps when both parties are consenting adults, but 26 and 15 is gross. Selena has a baby face still in this too! Yeesh. I used to like this movie too haha but... I'm 30 now and I swear people under 21 look so young to me! The idea of dating someone in their teens *shudder*
@@oliviarogers3559 but it's not ok to normalize a literal child kissing a grown man, even if they are acting. They should have picked a younger lead male or an older lead female. It's not ok
Trin went from absolutely adoring everything in this movie to bringing up the age gap at every possible moment the second she learned about it. And that’s on being an absolute queen
As a 24 yr old I can say that if I was an actor I would NEVER take on a role with someone that young, even back in the day it was weird but this movie isn’t super old so it did not age well
I think Mary was like 17 - because she’s a senior and applying to a dance college. And he’s like 19 or 20. I think he was meant to be like a child star, so in the video where Mary was young, like 10/11 and he was like 13/14. Like a Justin Bieber type situation lol. But the age difference with the actors is most definitely odd.
I completely agree and wish shed acknowledged this tbh cuz yes the difference with the actors is creepy but i dont think it ruins the entire movie because the characters are not the age of the actors
It doesn't matter what it was supposed to be in the movie, every other actor was 20+ they should've just casted an older main character or aged everyone down.
I agree that is what I thought then, but in that teen beat she was holding up as a child he looks exactly how he looks now. So, the movie failed on that part because that changed my perspective, they could have just cast a child for the magazine.
@@henriettalopez38 she wasnt a lead. they probably wanted someone young for the lead but didnt care as mucg aboyt secondary characters. it does make sense bc different parts have different requirements.
I think it’s also always weird when a relationship starts from a position of one character being a big fan of the other bc there’s that power dynamic. Which is, again, so much worse bc he’s older and she’s a literal teenager
By that logic famous people would either date noone or Hollywood would become full of incest. Power dynamics exist in every relationship, it all about having a balance. Power dynamics only really become a problem when the scales are tipping too far in one direction.
Ugh, why? Just to be sure (cos of this disturbing pattern) I checked the ages of Lucy Hale and Freddie Stroma during A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song. Thankfully the ages aren't weird at all, she was 22 and he was 24. I mean, still nowhere near how old the characters were, but at least there's no big age gap.
@Dessy Vibez Do the math? Ok. Hillary Duff was born 28 September 1987. Chad Murray was born 24 August 1981. According to IMDb 'A Cinderella Story ' filming began in June 2003, just before either birthday meaning just before she turned 16 (2003 - 1987 = 16), so she was 15. It was just before his (2003 - 1981 = 22) 22nd birthday, so he was 21. I don't know why you say 'girl why lie they was around the same age' then later admit they're 6 years apart by saying their current ages, but anyway.
Michael Fireheart yea but a 15 year old have a kiss scene and sexually scenes with a 26 year old. The girl wasn’t even legal to make that decision. It’s ok is she was 18 but a minor that’s called being a pedo
After finishing this... My childhood - rightfully destroyed... "He was 26 and she was 15..." "He wasn't the Justin Timberlake he was trying to be..." "stop doing that you are 15 years old... Stop looking at her like that you are 26!"
Truthfully I think they were trying to pass the character off as like 17-18(*sings* brooding hot 25 year old teenager) . Which obviously doesn't change the creep factor cuz eww they kissed
The rapid decline of your opinion is the best thing on RU-vid And yeah that age diff is tooooo weird

Things like that are so creepy When I was 15 I was going down a river in a kayak and the instructor who was around 25 asked me out and I was so creeped out, it made me incredible uncomfortable. It's not like he was a bad dude, he asked me out pretty nice, he saw I was uncomfortable, apologized and left me alone the rest of the trip but there was no way he didn't know I was underage (I looked young and was there with my parents and other friends my age) and yet he did it, it ruined my day, if it was someone my age I would've been so flattered but because he wasn't it felt very violent and I wish he never did it, I hated it. I don't understand how anyone would think that's okay
Well that feels like an overreaction just because he asked you out, sure he wasn't around your age, but he said sorry and besides, just be happy he didn't just use you before ending your life as you were in a place he could've easily done that...
I’m so sorry that happened to you! I’ve had college guys hit on me before, when I was 14 :/ It’s so uncomfortable. Even when it’s a genuine mistake and they didn’t know, it still super uncomfortable and it puts you on edge.
@@michaelfireheart8300 It’s not an overreaction at all. She had no way of knowing he wasn’t going to push the issue (or use his age/position to pressure her into something). A mid-20s adult hitting on a minor puts the minor in an incredibly uncomfortable situation and often makes them feel very unsafe. It’s good that he apologized and avoided her after - he gets congratulations for not being a terrible person, I guess - but he shouldn’t have flirted with a minor in the first place.
@@michaelfireheart8300 you clearly understand the stakes seeing as you’ve spelled out what could have happened to op. You’ve perfectly illustrated why her reaction was not an overreaction. An older man hitting on you in a secluded place is scary as hell. If a guy wants to date, I assume they want to have sex. If an adult man wants to date a minor I assume they want to have sex with them. That is a crime. If that man is willing to commit that crime, what other crimes is he willing to commit? Rape? Murder?
@@michaelfireheart8300 She was underage bro. Like...no, that's not something an adult should do at all. Especially an instructor who (probably) gets to be around kids often. And she was *alone* with him. That's a pretty scary situation.
@@liampatrick3110 I wouldn't really say it was that much less sexual, especially that ending scene. Also "Come on officer,I only got a little sexual with that underage girl" would hold up in a court of law.
Im 15 and i would be very uncomfortable if i got to play in a movie with a co star who were ten years older than me who was playing the main love interest
It was objectively better overall. The storytelling was nice, good dialogue and characters. and it has a slice of life rustic feel while still being humorous.
I think it would only be natural for you to do a commentary on "Monte Carlo". It holds a real special place in my heart, love the soundtrack/score so much. Plus Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester and Cory Monteith.
i'm around the same age as trin, so I really like to see a perspective that leans more towards appreciation rather than just roasting. Except for that age difference, no one should appreciate that.
@@anaisngombo9378 Yes she is! However, when casting and auditions for the show began (turn of 2018-19) she was underage. When filming began she would've been 18 barely. The male protagonist was in his late 20's throughout this. Chemistry testing, table reads, costume rehearsals - all throughout that major age difference did not strike the producers as odd. She may be 19 now, but the whole production was okay at the time when the project began till now for that dynamic to exist. I just find that strange.
@@cutabunny504 Oh wow yeah they're actually almost 6 years apart. I never noticed bc he had a young looking face lol. I think in that movie they also played people of the same age. That is a little weird but not nearly as bad especially if they didn't even kiss
12:37 me when I found out Scarlett Johansson was 17 when filming Lost in Translation - her love interest is Bill Murray btw - I had to watch that film for multipleeee film classes R.I.P. me and one of my super old guy profs was wayyyyy too into the dynamic and I wanted to dieeeee
right jesus christ plus the fact that this was aimed for pre teens most likely ???? so we see that at a young age and dont realize that theres an underlying problem of their age gap and just OUF y r they making it seem so 'normal'?????!?
