Saw them several times in my nyc life. And the drummer, Sherri, was a percussionist with the ny pops, of which I am a subscriber. One night, the founder and conductor, the late Skitch Henderson, simply brought in the band to play with the orchestra! It was phenomenal!
What a great band...Caravan never sounded so good. The little ldy playing the piano is explosive....the trumpet solo at 4:00 minutes is electric...the bass player must have 12 fingers. I won't even attempt to speak of the drum solo by Sherrie, in a word astounding. This is a balanced big band with no weak link that I can see. Why have I not heard of them up until now...I have been around 85 years. I am going to seek out the rest of their stuff. Oh happy days!
