I love that for the last 15 years everyone is quoting Father Ted. Shows how that show has stayed with us for thus long. Dermot Morgan lives on through Father Ted and I am sure he would love that. Who wouldn't.
Divine Comedy is actually the name of Neil Hannon's solo act. They're not a band. He plays all the instruments on the albums, and uses session musicians live
"pale pubescent beasts, roam through the streets and coffee shops, their prey gathered in herds of stiff knee length skirts and white ankle socks, but while they search for a mate my type hibernate in bedrooms above... composing their songs of love." ah he sings a song about the hopeless story of my life! Love Neil Hannon :-)
when this plays through in the final episode's outro montage of ted's memories, at any moment in life, I can picture that, and break down. long live dermot morgan and perhaps the greatest comedy production ever brought to my eyes.
My old band used to cover this, all Father Ted fans, but It simply is a beautiful song, Neil Hannon is not recognized for the exceptional song writing talent He is.
Divine Comedy have to be the most entertaining live band and vastly underrated in their field... For me Neil Hannon is one of this centuries greatest song writers and front man.... I’d love to spend a day in his musical mind and share with my friends his humour and talent ....thank you DC for the hours of musical pleasure

In the words of the late great Dermot Morgan..."We've got to lose that sax solo!" Or: "DOWN WITH THIS SORT OF THING!" Careful now. R.I.P Dermot and thank you Divine Comedy for the beautiful song which I've grown to love over the years...
Saw the man himself at seapoint golf club in Louth a looong time ago (prob 2004). Sickened I never wrecked his head with the obligatory "Howaya, love your tunes man". Id like to think he appreciated me not doing so 😂. What a national express/treasure!. There's a certain air of homeness and community I feel towards this track. As amazing as it is underrated
The writers of Father Ted are big fans and asked Neil Hannon, aka Divine Comedy, to do the theme song. As am I! Do yerself a favour and listen to some of the other stuff, preferably live. Clever and catchy. Charmed life is in a similar vein
I never knew that he actually made a song out of the Father Ted theme until last Friday night when I heard it on a radio show. Love that theme so making a song from it is ace and it's very nice too.
A dynamite little acoustic combo called The Cost Of Loving are playing this song @ Morocco Bound bookshop (near London Bridge / Bermondsey) on Feb 24th if anyone fancies coming along!
The title song to Father Ted is without words, but I didn't know had words at first, but the with the words that Neil Hannon sings is also good. I love both and both absolutely wonderful! 👍
yes it is and thank god for that . cant ever beat the cast in this . strangely i don't thing i would ever get to like another type of comedy like Father ted if they where to make another. it would never compare to the original
I showed this to my father [Brian. I know, poetically, that's a shame.], and he already had the album, but had not placed the song! It's a shame they had to tame their 60's jazziness down to make it fit the theme, but it did fit perfectly. Also, I'd like to say that I've never kicked BIshop Brennan up the arse.
like father bigly? exactly like father bigly! mayb thats wat happened? > >!! unreal... the band name suits the show down to the ground.... divine comedy!!!
