Hope you guys enjoy this guide to the cover system! Did you discover any neat tricks that I missed? Let me know! I did a lot of testing trying to find all the nuances but I'm sure there is still more to learn.
+ZiggyD Gaming Good stuff man.. thanx. Didn't know about the 180 degree turnabout. We'll see what Massive do with the 'sneaky peak'. I for one hope to get the opportunity to use it - even if it is for a couple weeks (till they fix it). 1 Week to go!
When I want some informative and cutting edge content I can always count on you Ziggy! Brilliant and exhaustive as usual. I had the chance to play around in the beta for a while, I'm not entirely sold but I definitely think it's worth a try. Well, I hope to see one day Borderlands Online, that would be awesome... but in the meantime I think that the division (if Ubisoft doesn't screw up) could be fairly entertaining.
Dude this video is worth gold! Thank you so much :-D I really thought nobody would ever make a video about something as small as cover But yeah the sneaky peaking... People would call you a wall hacker in the dark zone xd still cool though
Thanks ZiggyD. Normally play COD game's, just bought The Division, first week, wasn't getting very far. But thanks for your tip's i'm sure i'll get better, got sick of trying to move about and getting shot..this is a big change to my other game's and at 71 some thing's don't come so easy...but looking forward to loging on....Many thanks.
dude....your cover commando video was so very helpful, thanks so much...i only have 21 hours in on the game but i look forward to much faster progression now thanks to your info..thank you..Jonny
I played this game last night for the first time though and was doing the sneaky peeking after 1-2 hours of play. So it's still broken in that regard. Thanks for the other tips though. Will definitely be changing those settings! :)
Great video! I'm really excited for some more intense fire fights in the Dark Zone. Btw, as a New Yorker I wanted to add that the game's city, and rats, are fairly accurate. Edit: Damn, you have some nice tactics. I learned a lot! I hope I don't have to fight against you in the DZ, haha.
Great video, got to be a bit of a cover swap ninja on Ghost Recon Future Soldier, I hope they put a system something like this in the Wildlands PVP. Picking up the Division tomorrow as it's dirt cheap these days!
I'm a Division noob, so these are some very useful tips! Perosnally playig on the PS4(pro) but the principla are the same, i can already see some of my annoyance improve instantly based on the settings alone. so thank you for a top video - you shall have my Sub good sir. stay safe and keep up the good work
The shift button trick will help me a bunch. That is really annoying. I have to say I have been kinda exploiting the sneaky peek a bit though. I never knew how it really worked, but sometimes I accidentally started doin it, and it was glorious.
Very good video. Always nice to good thought out tactics and tips for optimizing your play... However, the way you can shoot through corners, like you said, should be fixed. It is too much and can easily be abused.
The "Sneaky Peaking" Fire From Cover Without Being Seen seems to have been fixed, at least on the PS4... several times I have wasted a bit of ammo hitting the wall or vehicle that I was hidden behind.
Should note that there are some skills in the game that do things like reducing damage when running cover to cover. So outside of the shooter elements of the game there will be some stat/rpg elements to the cover system as well.
You can do that sneaky peak move in almost all third person shooters with hitscan weapons, for example, Warframe. If all the weapons in the Division are hitscan, I'm not sure how they would rework them all to be projectile based like in an ARMA game.
I discovered that the 'Sneaky Peek' is not working anymore in the game, sadly. :( You now have to make sure that your gun is sticking out or not being blocked by the wall. Maybe they fixed that part in the latest update. Great guide though :)
Great clip, if you are a tom clancy fan or even one of the better gears of wars players this wont help you much. Its worth taking notes on the options at the start! I only played a short amount of the closed beta, and didnt even notice these. Check 2:55 for this
Nice. But the sneaky peak is called corner shotting. It can be done in almost any third person game with hits an weapons as the reticule is what registers the shots.
Just a note guys, I noticed the 'sneaky peek' didn't work very well in the second console Beta. In fact i often had trouble firing round corners at odd angles because the shots would hit the wall and not where my reticule was.
Well, I wish the beta was still open. Because some of the things you mentioned I myself didn't find. For example, I couldn't evade grenades well enough because I didn't discover 180-run-thing. Also, offtopic, but I found out that snipers, particularly the one with 10 round magazine, are pretty op in this game, while SMGs, on the other hand, feel useless as their magazine size and low damage counters all the benefits this weapon gives. What was your experience with different weapon types?
+Comedi Nyan I found LMGs ans Shotguns to be the worst in PvP. SMGs though can be really good! The Blackmarkets and the Vector are amazeballs when modded right (higher mag capacity and fire rate especially!). Shred people at close range. But yeah the dominant weapons were the bolt action marksman rifles and the high end assaults.
Your sneaky peak should not be patched. Its pieing the corner at its best. I will need to see if the tactic in the game prevents MPC's from returning fire as well as PvP.
I am really having difficult time in making the decision to buy it or not. Played the beta, had a lot of fun doing so. Apart from some bugs that i have encountered here and there. But when i saw the gameplay of lvl 25 it was let down for me, you were literally against the same enemies you encountered at lvl 8. That makes me think, there isn't a lot of diversity to the game and get repetitive a lot quicker. But that just my opinion, i might still buy and probably regret it.
+ZiggyD Gaming - The end of the video where you tease the aiming around cover without exposing yourself is pretty broken since release, although I've not done much PvP to test its true usefulness. However, with pistols it may be easier to do this. I know that from using ARs and Marksman Rifles it's harder as you need the aiming cursor to not collide with the wall, which is sometimes hard to do, as well as watching how/where the screen focuses.
+ZiggyD Gaming that's true. The way it is now, though, is still rather exploitable. A few times I've done it on mission bosses that are hard to deal with don't even move, which makes them easy pickings with a MR, especially if your MR is within 2-3 levels of the enemy. It is, however, a pretty realistic tactic when it works correctly. I just wish they'd do something about the enemy AI, for example making them move and take cover instead of just standing and doing nothing. A sitting duck, really.

+ZiggyD Gaming also, I do love your PoE videos! You're one of the more pleasurable people to watch as you break things down so just about anyone can understand what you're saying.
+ZiggyD Gaming would it also be possible, when you have the time, for you to make an updated gear guide and solo build? I haven't done much PvP yet, and rather enjoy playing alone. (The Division, that is)
+ZiggyD Gaming You seem to follow the development of games pretty well, why do you think the beta was so small content wise? Also are you going to be playing the division at release/at all, given its proximity to ascendancy launch?
Kaskade173 Basically because it was a demo, designed to whet people's appetites and get some feedback on core systems/bugs. I personally think they should have shown some of the crafting and perks, it would have gotten more people into it. And yeah I'll be playing at release, not sure how I am going to balance my time between the two haha guess I'll be not sleeping much!
Best way to get better in my opinion is beat the game solo like I did lol. Now I have to get used to everything being gold or purple in the dark zone lol.
seffard It's not exploitation or cheating. Having the bullets not 'spawn at the reticle" as Superfly said breaks immersion within the game. If they didnt want you doing this they should have made it so the reticle reflects onto the cover that you would be shooting at instead of sticking on the target while unable to shoot where the reticle is pointing
Well if this is around on release I'll never buy this game! Always hated shooter games were u can only see t hand or a elbow or a tip of the head while they just shoot you with a sniper rifle that is in the ground with out line of sight!
+Scott Sanderson Then maybe you should move cover to cover and limit your exposure and silhouette? It shouldn't be that bad I'll agree though. It would be nice if the trajectory to your gun was taken into account instead of just your pointer origin for sure. I would abuse it on the AI opponents though for sure. Get more experience fighting higher enemies that way.
That is an exploit no doubt. I actually stopped playing GTA mostly due to this, even more so because you are unable to switch shoulders. Left hand corners are at a disadvantage. I swear ALL 3rd person shooters should take notes as to how Metal Gear Solid 5 handles reticule and player orientation. If youre avatars gun is obscured by cover the reticule will split into two and reflect that. ie your bullets will hit the wall.
You know for non console port, using cover means moving up to cover and crouching behind it. This console magnetically suck to objects because they are handicapped by a terrible control system is horrible on the PC. We're been using cover for 20 years... Beta was pretty much a running sim. I hope release is better.
+Snoozerx I don't believe this is true at all, free crouching and a cover system are very different and do different things well. For example, free crouching games just use terrain and objects to line of sight block and you can't really peak or blind fire (some games do allow for lean at least). Free crouching, non sticky-cover games are great as twitch shooters where speed and mobility are king. A sticky cover system like this is great to promote more emphasis on slower paced tactical gameplay.
Sorry but your demonstration of the sneaky peek something that needs to be patched! Gun shooting through walls seems vary chezzy if not glitchy bad on the devs part! Nice find just hope to see it fixed.
New to The Division here since it was free on Ubisoft's store lol. Very useful information here, thank you for the video! And if anyone on PC wants to add me, the name is "DC5_Detty". I think so at least lol. I'll have to double check when I get home.
+chairul imran its easy to familiarise which key to press and its just one click away from what you wanna use in game. Besides its better to use a keyboard and mouse for shooting games. Imo
Maybe it would be good to see if you could get somebody to watch you to present how much you're exposed in some of the situations. Good tips otherwise.
TheBlueRaccoon The outrage was obviously feigned, but since we're on the subject......I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to etymology, and since 'route' is a French word, I'm partial to the original pronunciation.
Please guys, don't be consumed by 'the hype'. Maintain a critical view on this game and don't pre order. Think about how long you will play this and whether the game will be able to retain your interest for long. Anyway, some excellent tips ZiggyD.
+Alexander Eriksen I plan on making a video soon on the topic of "should you buy or preorder Division" - it will be fairly critical so something to look forward to! :)
+Alexander Eriksen I played the beta enough to know I'm going to enjoy this game. Your advice should go to ALL games, not just this specific one. And really, what's wrong with pre-ordering it?
+glassjaw210 well its not really just the division that people shouldnt preorder, its more so the fact that youre buying into a game that you really dont know anything about. Yeah people played the beta and such, but how much more to the game is there really outside of what they showed you? its more so to protect people from buying garbage cash grabs and trying to get rid of the pre-order culture so we can get good solid games that come with ALL the content and not just special pieces of content depending on where you buy it.
Zachary Krueckeberg The "garbage cash grabs" aren't necessarily a result of just pre-ordering games. I think it's the gamers themselves. It may not be as much the case now, but I remember when WoW came out, I worked at gamestop, and if you didn't pre-order it, you weren't getting it until 2 weeks after release, simply because they only printed enough to cover pre-orders plus a few extras. As far as games coming with "all" the content, I think people are too paranoid about DLC = ZOMG CONTENT THAT WAS CUT JUST TO MAKE MORE MONEY. The pre-order bonuses, the majority of the ones I've seen at least, are typically nothing but cosmetic or similar kind of things. Nothing that says you get an unfair advantage, or more of a game than people that don't.
+SuuzieQ "Navy Personnel Command", "New Philanthropy Capital", "National Pioneer College", "National Petroleum Council", etc.. BUT in this video it stands for "Non-player Character"
