I was at this concert in row 4. One of most exciting nights of my life. Dizzy lead from the front..........he was incredible. I came out the concert drunk from the music, with the knowledge that I would never witness anythng like this again. How right I have been. A night for the purists. God bless all the appeared that night and to you Henrique for posting this.
@@kesivan The Royal Festival Hall in London. In the 80's the JVC Jazz Festival was hosted there. I saw most of the greats. An amzing venue for listening to Jazz.
Ossie Huggins thanks for the info, was wondering if it was royal Albert or royal festival. But now that you clarified it’s all good. You very lucky to have seen this gig. I had the great honor of performing and being a student of Danilo Perez. All the best.
Do you remember the year? I took my daughter to hear the band. She was very young at the time. She was born in 1984. The thing about it, was that it was free! It was at our zoo. so we saw the animals, and then Dizzy! Maybe between '88 and '90.

So bummed it was taken off streaming service (after I lost my CD). 😮 Glad to find this here. I have listened to this from start to finish more times than I can count. Best concert ever recorded.
Never tired watching this amazing performance of this legendary band. How extraordinary each musician is listening and make it all together such a memorable concert. Thanks to Dizzy to put this together...this is top of the line.
I saw a version of this group in Cleveland at the Zoo amphitheater of all places! Sunday afternoon. If you paid to get into the zoo the concert was free. What a great show. He had Sam Rivers on saxophone that day along with James Moody and Slide Hampton. Just a wonderful experience. We went early and sat in the front row during the sound check and tried to talk to Dizzy. He was very nice but wouldn't engage with us until he started playing.
THE conga guy is THE BEST conga PLAYER IN THE WORLD MR GIOVANNI HIDALGO PERCUSSION VIRTUOSO FROM THE ISLAND OF PUERTO RICO IN THE CARRIBBEAN 🥁🥁🥁🥁🎶🎶🎵🎵🎵🎼🎼🎸🎸🎷🎺🎺👍
From time to time, I return to this pure gem. No better live thing hangs around anywhere. If you ever need to use the expression "Dream Team", go no further than this.
I think this concert has the best drum solos I have ever heard. The drummers make something of huge technical skill seem as effortless as blinking. Lovely warm audience too.
STEVE TURRIE FROM SNL AND I DON'T KNOW THE CAT ON GUITAR? I'D LOVE TO KNOW. MARIO RIVERA WAS MY FLUTE TEACHER. I KNOW MOST OF THESE CATS. PAQUITO I MET BASICALLY RIGHT OFF OF THE BOAT. AWESOME PEOPLE (GENIUSES), ALL OF THEM.
paquito and arturo v been so amazing, incredible performance, paquito first 20 min hero of the show, idk how its possible to be so focused and still perform like that for such period
one of the best videos ever uploaded on this platform 1991 united nations orchestra London, royal festival hall lead by THE Dizzy Gillespie and managed by THE Charles Fishman… can’t get better than this ❤.
Extraordinary! I've been soaking this up for weeks now, I wish I'd had youtube during my 16 years in England - I would have had the antidote to EVERYTHING ELSE around me.
2-28-19 @ 1122 hrs. Wunce upon a time in the 1960's while we were hitchhiking, Bob Blais and I showed a guy The Invisible Indian Rope Trick, but he didn't see the humor in it. Then in the 1970's, we and our Wives went to a Dizzie Gillespie show in New York City.
