In my opinon he is too much over the top and too cartoony, he is pushing it to the level of becoming ridicoulus. Pacino in Scarface also wasn't physically imposing but he was actually convincing even tough he went a little over the top here and there. Or in Godfather when he was already a Don he was ultra confident but realistic and not going into over the top psycho. Or Joe Pesci in Casino was more on the psycho side but still not cartoonish.

Tony Todd is criminally underrated.

Too bad Vincent Price wasn't in the movie. He and Tony Todd were always my favourite actors for horror. There is something about their voice that really suites it. Andrew Divoff is also really good as the djinn.

Seems less wish and more whim.

I think we are all too engrossed with movies like Aladdin where the desire is expressed with "I wished for..." That said I do agree this guy plays fast and loose. He is the titular villain so the movie allows it to broaden his power base and make him far more formidable. I kinda wanted people like the prison warden and Mr. Valentine had not been such pushovers. I know they had to fail or die but they seemed cool.

Robert Englund has more than a cameo as he plays Raymond Beaumont who collects ancient artifacts of which the Djinn (trapped in a fire opal) re-emerges. Kane Hodder and Tony Todd have cameos as well as Reggie Bannister from Phantasm. Angus Scrimm (The Tall Man from Phantasm) provided the opening voice-over. This film is terribly underrated and full of horror genre heavyweights both in front and behind the camera

Yes for a B movie it was great. I have all 4 movies. The third one was meh, the 4th one the lawyer was a pretty good actor. Andrew Divoff in the first two movies was the best though.

All credit to the actor who played the Genie but Hellraiser is greater than Wishmaster and very different. There is not much humour in Hellraiser.

And remember he said "I'd like to see you try" So the Djinn granted his request he was able to see the Djinn try to go 'through' him. And he succeeded. So no destroyed narrative, no fundamental plot hole. The Djinn did what he asked. Like fulfilling a wish. There are plenty of examples throughout the movie where the word 'wish' isnt used.

The first one did. The sequels are ass and deserved the criticism they received.

in fairness she could hardly explain without losing credibility. "don't wish for anything" is advice he would never have believed.

Well, it’s all about specifics. Candyman wanted to escape, so Wishmaster gave him something to escape from.

But actually he did not even make a wish, he merely answer a question about his mental state. Furthermore a Genie with his power would be able to get in the house without having to walk to the front door.

@maltehenryk1409 the wish wasn't specific, he didn't say anything specific with HOW he wanted to escape, it's much like if he said that he wanted to fly, he'd be sent flying up into the air and come crashing down.

If you squint a little and don't pay too much attention to detail, these are some awesome movies. Don't obsess over the details like, did he actually make a wish?
