I love how they jokingly say how this game could get dark and then it does.

Dan’s laugh of disbelief as the title music starts playing always gets me.

I love how the Grumps keep making up ways for the game to get really dark, and laugh about it... and then the game is actually that dark.

So, does anyone else get the feeling that this was not supposed to be a game about dogs at first? Like, it feels like it originally used to be some sort of fantasy game, until the dev teams boss was like "WE GOT 2 WEEKS TO MAKE A GAME ABOUT DOGS" and the team was like "uh, uh, uh, ok." And so they edited their game into this.

And I can't afford a Wii, so this is all I have. I let myself get too invested in the story, and now I need closure. Don't one-off this. I like how these abnormally cute puppies are in a game involving death, drugs and traveling to a place called “dog island” to find a cure for their dying brother. But their father died on that island. What the hell is this game.

When I saw the title to this video, I thought I was going to watch the grumps play a Nintendog-like game. What I got was a surprisingly dark start to a game about puppies and loss. Who made this, and why!?!

This game looks like it was designed by a bunch of people who each got into a different room and added a different thing. There was one person who wanted a cute game with puppies, but another person was into some serious angst writing and added everything from dying children to malpractice. Another person wanted this to be a simple game where a dog's nose is the main gameplay feature, while another person wanted to add some Zelda elements to it. This is one of the most messed-up games in existence.

My life goal is to make a game through the same mind as these types of games, where you play as a human. I shall call it "Humans", and you'll start in "Human Town", and travel to "Human Land". Your currency in the world is bits of chicken.

Game Grumps. I am not even kidding you here. You HAVE to make this a series. You have not seen ANYTHING. This is like one of the most epic RPGS this casual's ever done. You HAVE to keep playing this, it gets *astoundingly* intense. It gets really good.

Apparently there is a squeal to this game where your dog character, depending on gender, either gets pregnant or gets another dog pregnant and then has to save the pup's life because its dying. Someone MUST send it to the grumps. PRINCEF TAANX needs to become a mother!

I love how at the beginning when the dog walks on screen with music playing, arin and dan are completely silent for about 5 seconds and then Dan just loses his shit

I remember this game: THE DOG Island starts off all cute and shit but then you get that scene where you have to eat an injured mole to stay alive and it only gets worse. You do find the doctor but he needs some kind of herb to cure Emilio so you go questing for that, going up a mountain alongside a German Shepherd pup named Alphonso. The area around you becomes more and more warped with horrible things trying to murder you and your little puppy self can only run away or get eaten. Eventually Alphonso starts getting frostbite on one of his legs and you have to chew it off in a series of quick-time events, with the only hope of Alphonso's survival being the herb you're looking for. The herb is eventually found but it is guarded by some kind of extradimensional horror which you have to fight by cutting off the portal it uses to travel from its eldritch realm to our own, decapitating it in the climax. You bring the herb and the doctor back home only to find that Emilio has already died and your mother too died of grief. The game then cuts to a funeral scene where you have to push the wrapped-up bodies of your brother and mother into holes and cover them with earth. The game's final scene has your character give one last sniff of the bracelet that belonged to your mother and the thing that Emilio used to wear before your character walks into the ocean, followed by a cut to black. I really enjoyed this game as a kid and I was sad that they didn't make more of these. My version of the game was on the PS2 and not on the Wii, though.

There's this incredible buildup in the first thirty seconds of this video - all leading up to the spectacular moment in which the Grumps are made aware of their horrific situation.

I played another dog game that was made by the same people who did this game , and it was about how a dangerous wolf criminal persuaded you and your friend to give him a powerful magic hat. He busts out of jail with it, and the police come and arrest your friend when they find out you two were the cause of him getting out, and make you go find a way to defeat the wolf and get the hat back.

You can literally tell the exact moment that this turned from a one off to a full series lol

this is one of my most beloved GG series of all time and one i always come back to rewatch every now and then bc it's just pure gold. but i do have to say, as someone from yorkshire, the way arin says "yorkshire terrier" at 2:49 made me wanna commit toaster bath. much love.

I had heard the legends of this playthrough but I had yet to see it for myself. Holy shit, despite it being all cute and about dogs and all that, there is actually quite a bit of story to it and it's hella dark. Though, back when it was pretty popular like 10-15 years ago, I remember having all "THE DOG" things like the little books and plushie toys back when I was in elementary school and I loved it! It was so cute. :D I think my sister even had a THE DOG poster with like 12 different dogs and I always loved that they had such massive heads. XD

Oh, please make this a series!

Well that was NOT what I expected from a game like this. Woah! I actually want to see more of this, I want to see how dark it goes and how intense the plot becomes; plus it means more "grumps make dark jokes about a game with an overly cute aesthetic" which is always hilarious

God, I played this game when I was like 6 or 9, and it is still to this day my favorite game. This game is my childhood and it literally pains me that I have not yet finished this game.
