The Dogs of War - Assault on Kimba's Fortress 1 

It was a definite sleeper of 1980.

Might have been too close to what the CIA was doing in Rhodesia/ Zimbabwe civil war.

It probably would have been more recognized if it wasn't overshadowed by another movie that was released at the same time which was a box office blockbuster: The Empire Strikes Back.

The book is even better, although the battle scene in the movie has a more realistic size to it (but in the book they more realistic use mortars instead of those small granatelaunchers during the attack). Great movie!

@@MrBandholm the only thing I wished they kept was how tom berengers character in the book kills one more enemy before succumbing to his wounds instead he gets shot in the back that bugged me but the whole movie was spot on and I hope somewhere in the future this movie gets noticed enough to have a remake or turned into a miniseries.

Orel Brenn plus it uses the same ammo as the FN FAL’s in service with enemy troops. One mistake they also made is they didn’t have a mortar team Atleast 800meters back and they didn’t have sniper cover either. Needless to say they should have kept a few men in reserve Incase the operation failed. Too many what ifs in that scenario

@@W.Stryker they were using a manville gas gun as a grenade launcher. i dont think the movie cared too much about realism. youre taking it a bit too seriously

@@W.Stryker You ARE taking it too seriously! Its a bloody MOVIE from 1980 - few people cared how many rivets on a Claymore mine, or whether the bad guys had original AK47s instead of AKMs. Remember: IMFDB did not exist then! Wolverines!

Read the book. Mostly - at the time they did this - they took what they could get. The weapons they used in the book (iirc) were actually MP-40's that someone had found stored in a bunker since WWII and which they were able to buy off whoever had them. The book goes into a great deal of detail about just exactly what they had to go through to get these weapons - at that time. Today - you can get AK"s and M-16's every where - but this took place in the '60's when the world was not awash in those weapons. As to the unit - they did not design the unit for the mission - they took who they could get. They got a unit from one country that had been over whelmed by it's neighbor and whose trained soldiers were displaced - and available as mercenaries. So - that is one of the differences between the ad hoc forces available as mercenaries - at that time - and a Spec Ops Team put together by some nation's military. .
