Don't Forget the southern end of the national park too! Areas like Sandstone Falls and Grandview are beautiful and even less crowded than the northern end by Fayetteville. Also don't miss out on the beautiful town of Hinton, anchoring the southern end of the park! Summersville Lake nearby is also worth a visit!

“Don’t drive as fast as the locals” I grew up in Fayette County (Oak Hill High School Class of ‘85). I moved there in ‘77, but would road trip with my parents from VA for years before that. Anywhooooo…I learned to drive on Rt 19 second semester (winter). I got good at driving Thurmond, Fayette Station Road, the whole 9. I’ve been on FL for over 30 years, so when I drive up there, it’s like driving Mrs. Daisy now. My wife, who also grew up in WV (Raleigh County), is still wide open.

Me and my new wife went on our honeymoon there! I recommend Babcock state Park (close by) and New River ATV does amazing tours that are scenic, muddy, and there's plenty of wildlife... Including bears. Cool that you went there too!

Unfortunately, The Pink Pig is closed now. Sad day. Thank you for the great video about WV. We have some of the best outdoor opportunities in the world! The hiking trails around Fayetteville are phenomenal. Long Point and Endless Wall are my favorites. Glad you have a great time!

I know. I live in Beckley They had opened a store here. They closed all of their stores and I think they moved to Florida or something. It was sad. Another victim of the pandemic.

WV resident here. Very cool to see you and your family coming to our state to visit. I think we're overlooked because we're sandwiched in between so many cool places to visit outside of the state. But living here really makes it nice because we have so many options for easily drivable trips and our state really isn't that large area wise. We can make those drives to North Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland, etc... in a matter of hours not to mention we've got the whole state to play in and it's like a 3 hour drive at most to anywhere. You can take a long weekend living here and definitely get out and see some cool stuff inside and out.

Thank you for jumping straight in to whitewater and ability overestimation. As a guide, I have seen time and time again people come out there and have no idea what they've gotten themselves into, especially when it comes to the Lower New. Also, great feet up safety talk!

A great day trip when the Upper Gauley is running, is to hike up to Sweets Falls rapid and watch the carnage :) If it's your first time going, any rapid rating Class 4-5, go with a guide. Make sure to tip them some beer after the trip.

Gauley season is 6 weeks in the fall when they open the dam on weekends. New river season is spring when the water levels are high. I went in the summer once and a but boring with low water levels. On the gauley, the guide asked us how crazy we wanted as they can take harder rapids. Fun times!

Yes Sundrop is a Southern favorite but you can only get Cherry Lemon Sundrop in certain locations ✊🏽💥

You completely left out rock climbing! This is one of the great places to climb. Also, there’s a great escape room activity in downtown Fayetteville! The Secret Sandwich Society is a great spot for lunch. Lots of cute shops, too.

Don't miss rafting the Gulley River during the fall dam release(not far from the new river). It makes the New River look calm. It is the most intense rafting on the East Coast.

Did it this year. It was crazy. Aggressive swimming. There was never a guide said just float down the river and keep your feet up.

I've been to the New River (which is over 2,500 years old). I fell out and got extremely soaked! It was a blast! I whitewater rafted on the Gauvey River and the Upper New River 30 years ago. If

I lived in West Virginia my entire life got a couple things to on the back roads follow the speed don't try to go above the speed limit if anything go below the speed cuz on the back roads there can be a turn immediately a sharp turn and if you don't follow those speed limits you could literally catapult your car off a mountain so really do recommend to follow those speed limit and please do not try to speed when you're on the back Rhodes

Also early in the morning the falcon be so bad to where you can barely see 2 ft in front of you so drive carefully especially if you're at a higher altitude

Random question. Did the rafting company take your photos? They look professional and I was wondering if I should invest in a water proof throwaway camera or just plan to pay a huge fee for their photos, if they take them?

“Water shoes” are often slip-on. These are NOT god for rafting. You need lace-up shoes. Otherwise, if you get tossed out of the raft, your shoes are likely to be torn off your feet by the current. When this happened to me, I was lucky - the group in front of me plucked my floating shoes from the water and I was able to get them when we pulled off after the rapid.
