Karl Urban and the Rock made (2005) Doom such a memorable and goofy film not to mention the fps scene. I got to meet Karl Urban and ask the guy about doom at a comic con around 2018. The guy was laughing his ass off and couldn't belive me when I told him for me it was one of my favorite films. Super nice guy, thanks for the video meat daddy!

My mom had the 2005 DOOM movie and would put it on repeat CONSTANTLY while getting ready for work at Taco Bell. It's been engraved into my memory and I remember it more than my middle school years

This will never happen but I want to see a campy high budget DOOM. In it the UAC is basically poking hell with a stick to see if they can get power or an easy way to teleport. Then you introduce one of the marines stationed there for safety who is seen as some weirdo because he barely talks and keeps a rabbit. When everything goes to shit he just keeps doing his duties even though everyone is disappearing around him and there's bloody trails everywhere. When he gets back to his bunk he sees an imp snacking on his rabbit after which he absolutely rages out and tears the imps head off. The imp screams while dying which alerts it's friends so our guy take his service pistol out and starts blasting. At that point you can sort of merge the plots of DOOM 3 and DOOM 2016. In any case there has to be another character that manipulates him (or tries to). And you have the marine working his way towards better armor and guns. If you want to sequel bait you can end the movie with the marine stranding himself in hell because the portal connection had to be closed from the other side. Do a nice camera shot from close on his visor seeing gun flashes, enemies and some blood spatter and move it up while panning down on him fighting then pan forward to show the hellish landscape (you'd need to 180 the camera too so maybe that's too much movement). You can add as much background story about the UAC and whatever lead them to experiment like this as you want and the marine doesn't really need to speak. Thank you, this has been my DOOM talk.

Actually in DooM(2005) the variety of monsters is slightly higher: there are zombies, two different types of imps, there are some hell knights (although they are renamed "barons") and a single Pinky.

The dude shutting the door cutting himself off from rescue reminds me of the guy from the second Resident Evil movie who rescues the main characters by wrestling a zombie dog that had ambushed them and telling them to leave him he's got it. Instead of just shooting the dog they leave him and he's promptly killed by a second dog that walks in on him wrestling the first dog like 10 seconds after they leave.

"You cannot revive what's already alive" is what filmmakers need to keep in mind when trying to reimagine a film adaptation of a beloved video game.

I think it's worth mentioning that Joan Dark is also slightly similar to Joanna Dark, The female protagonist of first person shooter, Perfect Dark on N64. Doom annihilation and Perfect Dark share similar themes in a female taking a typically male driven role, as well as the obvious, being that the movie is based on Doom, a classic FPS, same genre as Perfect Dark 64.

Fun fact: Dr. Betruger is the main antagonist in Doom 3 who goes into the hell portal, too XD

I unapologetically love the 2005 Doom movie. Now I am fully aware of its many many flaws, but....I still love it. It brings back a lot of nostalgia.

I watched DOOM (2005) and was SHOCKED when I got to the third act and realized they just weren’t going to even approach the Hell part of DOOM. An entire DOOM movie without mention of Hell is so wild lol. And then I watched Annihilation and was pleased they actually made it about hell….but that was about it.

My pitch for a Doom movie would be follow the demons, make it a fast-paced slasher film where the demons are the "camp councillors" and Doom Guy is "Jason" with practical effects and some John Wick thrown in there as well.

A doom movie from the eyes of doom slayer like hardcore henry would be so cool.

Funny story, I had a friend who works in film production message me a couple years before this came out, saying she was helping with a new Doom movie and asking what I thought of the franchise etc. I linked her to the infamous "rip and tear" comic and said they should lean into it that way. Few years later, this came out. I'm sure my friend didn't have any actual power over the script but it was still disappointing.

I've always thought of these types of movies as "Films you watched when you were too young to be allowed to watch them" because in your younger teen years all you're focused on is how cool, gory and action filled they are without the adult quality analysis you eventually build with time being there to shroud over it. Basically if you can lock a few brain cells in their room for the duration of the film you're in for a good time.

If they had made doom during the 80s action movie era it would have been spectacular. Think about it, it was era of over muscled singular heros fighting overwhelming odds against whatever enemy of the day. It woulda been legendary lol

If the 2005 movie wasnt named DOOM, it could have been turned into a great franchise. I liked the claustrophobic feel aswell as the overall pace. Reasons as to why and where were clear, with a cherry on top, it being the mission that cancels their vacation.The characters were well written too. Which one of them was good or bad and why the parasite chose also felt natural because they all got a decent amount of screen time with enough dialogue for the viewer to make the distinction. Recognizing the different areas/rooms also gave me a feeling of immersion. The cast was great, there is nothing really bad to say about them. The premise of the movie was hidden behind horror and mistery and the unraveling of it came at a good time and it finished fairly well. The first person scene could have been much more than it was but considering it was 2005, Im okay with it. All in all, dont watch it as "DOOM", but rather something unnamed and I think it will give you a different feeling.

Another thing about Netflix getting Doom Annihilation on their platform, it was released in 2020 as a special Christmas thing. For two weeks in December of 2020 you would see on the front page "Coming December 25th. Doom Annihilation." Like it was a gift or something.

Fun fact a lot of people prob didn't notice but Betruger was actually also the name of the Head Director or scientist in Doom 3, so at least they were kinda using in universe lore for the film i guess, also I think Joan's backstory is supposed to be like a shitty version of doom guys, since it's like oh she let terrorists go, but i think it was like UAC said they were terrorists but she found them unarmed, since Doom Guy's lore is he was on Phobos because he put his commanding officer in a coma for ordering his unit to fire on unarmed civilians

2005 Doom movie to me and my best friend has it as a guilty pleasure. As fans of the games, we see it as "so bad It's good" and laugh when the characters die. Portman was the favorite character for how much of a piece crap/wierdo he was. His death was also hilarious 😂.

The 1st one was gooftroop city with the Genetic Moral Superiority plot and somewhere around 30 minutes of abominable light strobing/cuts throughout the film, but I do think it's worth noting that it's the only movie where The Rock's contractual obligation to "win [or at least, not lose] every fight" is eschewed here. Annihilation is...wow. It made me respect the 2005 one way more. Straight poodoo

joan dark is probably a reference to joanna dark from Perfect Dark. Another first person shooter game that actually had a female protagonist. It played as a more advanced and improved upon Goldeneye for the N64 that even had some of the old Goldeneye levels in it for multiplayer. It was actually pretty amazing. She aint no Doom Guy though.

You know what would be a nice little twist? Not like a major twist or anything and not that very very few movies don't do this, but the whole "here's a look at my family" and "I can't wait to go home" death fodder character doesn't actually die. Like survives the whole movie.

I remember in 2005, sitting down in the theater and expecting an amazing experience. By the end I was so disappointed, but the phase doors were cool.

I used to watch DOOM (2005) a lot as a kid. I unironically loved it.

It suffers from weird choices (introducing people that nearly dies immediately, no-stakes romance z-plot, introducing a super monster only to murder it immediately) but I did think it had more soul than the 2005 movie.

Doom movie has a special place in my heart. I was a little kid, and to this day it's one of those movies that's a guilty pleasure for me. And I'm a Rock simp tbh
