I love The Doors since I was a kid. I always wanted to see live footage for The Changeling and since there was absolutely no footage that existed of this track, I decided to take it upon myself to make my own video of The Changeling using footage from the 1969 PBS Critique Performance. It worked perfect and I made it happen. If you really want it, you just gotta make it happen. Where there's a will there's a way. Thank you guys 🙏 again for the awesome feedback and likes. The editing is so incredible that many viewers don’t seem to understand that this is earlier Doors video from other songs set to the later studio version of Changeling. I’ve seen many others attempt this kind of feat, but this production is by far the best I’ve ever seen. It really does look (if you don’t study too hard) as though they are performing Changeling. Simply amazing work for one of my top five Doors songs.

This is great. Producer Paul Rothchild would NOT ever allow guitarist Robby Kreiger to use or experiment with a wah wah pedal on any of the Doors albums he produced. Paul didn’t believe in the thing and thought it lowly. Here in 1968, Rothchild has been dumped to allow songs like Riders of the Storm to be made- which Rothchild labeled ‘cocktail jazz’. So on this song Robbie gets to use a wah pedal (along with a fuzz pedal) and it sounds cool thru his Gibson SG. Amazing to me how Ray Manzarek opens the song with a fuzz bass line and then just drops it when he wants to solo melody on the higher keys. Seems to work, mainly due to the crafty percussion of John Densmore who adds so much to the song almost as a lead player. And then there is Jim. Thx for posting. Update- Strange- I hear Robbie’s wah pedal but I don’t see his foot hitting it. This leads me to think they are miming to a pre-recorded instrumental track. Jim may be live or is he lip syncing for the video too?
@Arenivar
@Arenivar 6 лет назад
Riff Digger You’re very welcome. And thank you for the insight. I love it man. I saw it as a blessing that Rothchild didn’t wanna be involved, with all due respects to him and what he’s done with the band but the boys had to do this one on there own 😉 and I loved it.

It's definitely a lip synced video. Ray is playing his Vox organ, yet it sure sounds like a Hammond.
@ghostdog7575
@ghostdog7575 6 лет назад
incredible how many mistakes you made in a few line. First of all this is not a footage of them playing the Changeling but the author of the video edited another show to sinc it on the STUDIO VERSION. L.A. woman was recorded in 1970. Paul Rotchild was contrary to use the wah pedal only for the first album (and it was a suggestion not a "non allowing"). Being it the studio version Ray Manzarek played absolutely NO BASS (it was Jerry Scheff). You see no Robby hitting the pedal? Incredible... didn't you ever watch their PBS critique show??? It was 1 year before the Changeling was even written and they played only songs from theSoft Parade plus Build me a Woman... The doors NEVER played any L.A. woman song live. "They" did it for the first time in the 2000s with Ian Astbury... (without Densmore has he thought they had no rights to call themselves "Doors".

PBS this is your point of view, I believe fans did go see The Doors for the music and see Jim because he was a great performer. He improvised all his performances he didn't just stand there and sing like singers do today, Jim was a smooth screamer and the best with all cries and woes, he is missed very much, I believe he drank not because he was a so called alcoholic but because like most geniuses he didn't fit in this physical world he was like an Angel a Spiritual being having a human experience. He was way ahead of his time and generation, most did not get the symbolism of his lyrics. The Doors was named from the book The Doors of perception by Aldous Huxley. There will never be another one like him. RIP I miss you and love you Jim, I was just 12 when you died and didn't start listening to the Doors until I was 17. So uplifting and positive, like Ray would say "A celebration of life". Sad Jim didn't make it but even sadder why so many bands today avoid that celebration of life. Everything is fucking negative today, nobody has got any balls.

One of my fave Doors tracks & just an incredible performance, jim.sounds great & the band awesome. Unique band with no bass player, ray playing all the bass lines on keyboards & Robby was so underrated as a guitar player . Picker style. Who cares if jim gained some fckn weight in the end .

pretty sure this particular song is the live video with the album version of the song played over top. they did a fairly good job of lining up the performance with the sound.
