Love your enthusiasm and use of everyday objects! People need to know they don't have to have all sorts of fancy tools to be able to create art and know joy!
I hate tp be the downer in the room, but there are a couple considerations. Never introduce a food product like dried pasta into your paints due to mold considerations in acrylic paints. This can be fact checked. Once mold gets into your eco-system of paints and brushes, you have discard any paints that may have picked up, but it is best to discard all your paints and start over if mold eventually grows. My art professor suggested the same for brushes, I don't know if there is a reliable treatment for brushes. Second. Not all paper is the same. Paper with an acid content will eventually turn yellow to brown. For temporary works of art it doesn't matter, but for heirlooms, it probably would. I never eat food and paint without washing my hands or do it around my paintings. There is also a warning now about tap water and acrylics. Distilled is safer. And discard old tubes of acrylics. I threw awat dozens of old tubes about seven years old one time after a respite in painting.
Use any paint…but if it dries too fast you’ll be frustrated. I started printing last week. I have no paint so bought craft paint, mid grade. Then had to wait to get extender, after my first prints with odd results. Also, you’ll find a new plate has a coating that makes the paint bead up. So be happy with what you get; it is not as straightforward as RU-vid videos would lead you to believe. But I thank all the generous artists who have made these videos, with lots of ways to explore in the future.
What ?? I'm confused here You can layer paint and it drys and then as ur ready to pull a print put a layer of wet white down and press and it should pull all dried paint off
❤ appreciate your words. Obviously sounds like you have some experience. I ordered one awhile ago and I have been almost scared to use it...;I thought how silly and am breaking it in now.
This was so fun to watch, not just because I am quickly falling in love with gel printing but also your presentation of it. Listening to you was like hanging out with a friend, it was engaging and exciting to listen/watch. Thank you for sharing this, I can't wait to see more of your vids.
Carolyn, what a complete joy you are to watch and how refreshing! I am a "serious watercolor" lol painter and have gotten tired of paying $$ for ephemora and researching copyright's on maps, poetry, etc. for backgrounds for my mixed media watercolors and bought my first gelatin plate. Your video was exactly what I needed! You are so lovely and your joy for this form of printmaking is ridiculously contagious. :'S Thank you so much for sharing your time and expertise! xx
You are a natural presenter! I love your style and your easy-to-understand processes. I just started experimenting with Gelli printing, and feel like some videos skip some very important details. Thank you!
I know this is 5 years old now 😂 just ran across it while searching for beginner videos after a somewhat frustrating first time printing session 😅 Super helpful and fun, and I love your presentation style 😊 Thank you!!
You got me because you are the kind of crafter I like! Don't go out and buy the most expensive stuff on the market, use what you have. I am on a very strict budget but crafting is just what I need to keep me centered in a world gone mad! So thank you so very much for being the understanding and kind person you are.
I’ve been a little hesitant about getting going with gel printing, but you helped me blow right through that feeling. Thank you. I feel inspired and freed up. i love your use of junk mail and your daughter’s homework!! lol!
I love you Carolyn! You're really just so much fun, you brought me such joy with your tutorial. You cracked me up with your sense of humour. I think you're the most fun person on utube!! You've also inspired me to get creative with my printing. I also love that you recycle and re-use anything and everything. I do this too. Great for supporting our Planet. 👍❤️🌸
You are amazing. Your voice, mannerism & your teaching is great. Your videos are as fluent as your paint pours. Thank you for teaching me something fun with a come what may.
Carolyn I'm super impressed, after I just ran across this new to me gel- printing craft...I watched 3 other videos before finding this one. The others were nice, professional and interesting but something was TOTALLY missing for me. I left with more questions than before. This one COVERED them ALL! And her attitude and character and humor and...and....sealed the deal for me. Subscribed and off to purchase my first gel plate! Thank you Carolyn!
You are amazing! You are such a joy to watch and listen to! I love the professional way you did this video, no hesitations, no over explaining, lots of visuals, great content, great energy when you speak.... I’m just so impressed. Subscribed and hit the bell!
Uh, yeah, so I'm a little behind in finding this vid but Carolyn, I gotta tell ya, this is exactly what I needed to see. You've made gel printing seem easy because it IS easy! You have such a way of letting me give myself permission to just play. Thank you for that more than I can say. With love from the Southern California desert, MK ♥️🌞🌵
I just discovered gel printing this weekend. You are so much fun to watch and have completely removed my anxiety of trying this wonderful art. My gel plate is arriving on Tuesday and I'm so excited to try this. Thank you for this video! Following you for sure!
I'm off to a gel printing workshop later today. I am excited but was also overthinking it. You & your video are fun and I can't wait to get there and get started. Thank you Carolyn 😀👍🏼💕
I just got a gel press for my birthday, and I had no idea what it was. The package said to look it up on RU-vid, so I did and found your channel. This looks so fun! Can’t wait to try it!
Thank you so much for being my ‘tutor’ as I tried out my little 3 x 5 gel plate today. Thank you for not having any ‘rules’. It made it a lot easier to get started and have some fun. I did about 20 little pieces.
Idk how i missed your channel but..about halfway thru i noticed that the way youre so enthusiastic and the info was totally clicking with me, so i subbed 🎉 thanks for sharing . Im excited to try this
I had ordered a 5 x 7 gel plate after watching someone else use one. I LOVE your attitude with it. Inspirations to get away from some of those "structured" ideas I have difficulty "casing.."
Hey Carolyn, Today is the first time I've heard about gel printing...it seems there is always more. I love your space and organized space and I love your narrative. well done !!
Just found your channel, I do Junk journals and I want to do extend the types of pages I put in. This look so much fun- found my next type of page 😍😍😍Thank you for teaching!! Fun video- will definitely watch more of yours. crafty greetings from 🇩🇪❤️
Carolyn, Love your energy and enthusiasm! Can you tell me why you don't use the paint side of your stencils? It looks like some great patterns are there as well. Thank you!!!
Thanks so much Carolyn! Your passion and enthusiam shines through. I've started playing with gel printing and you've encouraged me to experiment even more. All the best.
Oh, I just love you! You’re so encouraging! Wish I could have you over for coffee and crafting one day! But, till then, I’ll just tune in and craft along with your videos!
nice video. thanks for the lesson. this is new to me and I like the results. I know is all in fun but, Don't show stuff to strangers. They are not always "objective" , is a good way to get shot down by someone who does not appreciate it. Always surround yourself with people who appreciate your art or art in general.
This was just fun and information AND motivation at the same time. I can´t help hopping up from my seat and hurry into my craftroom to try it out. Thank you so much, Carolyn!
I just bought a plate and can’t wait to play! I like the idea of using the packing tape to remove the excess dried paint but I wouldn’t throw it away. You could use on collage for interesting multi media art.
hi carolyn! this is the first video of yours that i have ever watched and i have fallen in love with you and your style :D instant sub and bell. off to watch more of your vids! yay!
You can use the pieces of packing tape used to lift the paint off the gel plate on multimedia collages. Just stick them down on a collage surface and paint over them with gloss gel or clear gesso and add more collage pieces, or use them for lazer-printed transfers.
Carolyn Dube, thank you so much for this I love your style and attitude towards having fun doing gelli printing. I have wanted to try gelli printing for quite a while and recently, finally bought a small plate at one of the art supply stores I go to. I have yet to try the gelli plate,*sigh* afraid of "ruining it", but you have given me the inspiration to boldly go where I have not gonembefore, lol, and use my gelli plate, today. It's too hot and humid outside to do anything else so now I have an excuse, woohoo!
I just found your video. I love your joy for what you are doing. Thank you for that. I was feeling a little down this week but you have given me back my happy. I can't wait to start my weekend and pull out my gel plate and play again. have a great weekend, thanks you.
thank you. I learned much from your tutorial. I would love to see what (art) you make out of the layered backgrounds you have made. But this was a "joyful" watch. thank you.
Thanks so much for a great video! Very informative & FUN! I’m a newbie, but feel much better about trying the gel plate, now!! LOVE your craft room, wowing-zowie, I think you have everything!!
