i know the boys probably wont see this but I've enjoyed gone with the wind live every time because I discovered architects with AOGHAU the same year one of my closest friends took his life. The lyrics always hit me fucking hard as while suicide is different to cancer there is tiny semblance in the headspace I suppose and I've cried in the pit every fucking time. So I've always been grateful for the chance to mourn in that way alongside the band but I definitely understand why it may be time to move on, I cant imagine how taxing it must be to experience it night after night though. Much love to them.

I feel this so much. Soon after AOGHAU a close friend of mine also chose to end her life and this song just hit home for me and I just cried trough it during live concerts. It made me feel very connected I I felt like we can get through that "together". But I get it, moving on, overcoming the pain and learn to live with what's left is an important step and they have to do what feels right for them, especially in this situation. Much love to you and to them, we somehow have been together in this.

Have been an Architects fan from the very early days and one of the things I love most about a new record cycle is that they've never been afraid to make the music they want to make. And for that I've loved every record. Sure I love some albums more than others, but I don't understand how anyone can say they are a fan of a band and then get upset when the band are moving in the most natural direction for them. No band owes any of us a sound, and I'm just so grateful that there are bands like Architects (and Bring Me who were mentioned a few times here) as well as others who continue to push and mould the boundaries of what a "heavy" band can be. In summary, loved this chat, love the album, some of you in the comments suck.

Them talking about their older music is exactly how i feel... their 1st two albums hold a special place in my heart but i havent been able to get into their newer stuff i loved the tech stuff.. with that being said i am more than happy with their success no matter how much they changed, they were once one of my favorites.. wishin bad for them would be wild

excellent episode! Thank you! I really appreciate this deep level of conversation about all the critical reactions Architects has got and them handling it. It really put things in perspective for me personally. And the fact that Craig creates an environment where Dan and Sam feel comfortable to be as open and honest as they seem here is what makes this chat exceptional for me. Audio and video quality are great as well! For me what it kind of points it out pretty well is what Sam’s saying there: “It’s five people that have worked on something they like and that makes them happy, and then you can enjoy it if you want to. And if you don’t then go and do something else. That’s it. You don’t need to be annoyed.” I hate this position of unrealistic expectations some toxic fans have. It’s like - the band is not obliged to produce the music that YOU want but what they genuine feel like doing. Otherwise it just wouldn’t be real and just bad stuff would emerge out of it. Love from Germany!

This was fucking awesome, Craig I've subbed and definitely looking forward to listening/watching more. As for Dan and Sam, awesome guys, awesome band. Relatively new fan tbh and they're killing it, is it more accessible than the earlier stuff? Yes, but its still got some great chunky riffs and screamed vocals, gets young kids listening to heavier music and will probably get more people into rock/metal/punk/hardcore etc. Nothing wrong with a rock band getting popular and big, like Finn Mckenty says, the problem with rock and metal is its afraid to be successful and wanting to stay underground. That mentality will kill it. Keep up the good work y'all.

My mum almost died the week the Doomsday single came out. She's fine now and that makes me insanely happy obviously. I started crying in the middle of two live shows where they played it. Somehow they touch many aspects of my personality. Architects make my life better since 15 years or so and I can't stand people who just hate on any band that tries to be themselves. Not everyone - sadly - knows what can be discovered when you stop blindly hating and start listening to what they have to say. Thanks Craig, Sam and Dan.

I was lucky enough to be at the Brighton show. It was insane seeing the band in such a small venue. I got into Architects after I heard Doomsday, never thought I'd get an opportunity to see them in such a small venue. The new record isn't really for me, but I respect them all for putting music out that makes them happy. The way some fans act is frankly disgusting; if you don't like it, you don't have to listen to it. You can go enjoy the records you do like, or god forbid, go find more bands that are more your sound...

27:23 What Dan says about wanting to write the opposite of what the haters are saying just made me instantly think of Trivium & The Crusade record. Whilst it's not in my top Trivium records & is missing some of their signature sound in some ways I do totally respect them for making it when they did & the reasons why they did it. Not to mention there are still plenty of killer riffs & solos etc even if vocally & stylistically there is a bit of a departure for some.

Craig this is fucking unbelievable. You seem to outdo yourself every time!!! Really really enjoyed this one. Love getting some more details out of the band... - With what Dan said about the tear gas chorus lyrics, I had thought that, so to hear that it's intentional is just brilliant - And again about the video, seeing you guys have some fun with it filled me with a whole other joy. If Architects are ready to show this side of them to the world then I'm all for it!! - Oh my god I wish that spit the bone video had been a reality 🤣 Glad to hear the writing/recording process was liberating too! - God you three are so entertaining. Seeing some really close knit people just have a laugh and chat is always great to watch but especially you guys. Would love love love to see this again in the future!! - That comment about things sounding the same is exactly what I was thinking. Bewildered as to how people think the last two records sound 'samey' throughout and the songs are 'indistinguishable' from one another, yet they have arguably the most sonic variety of any of Architects' records Thoroughly enjoyed this!!!

Great chat, could have easily watched another hour and a half. It feels like Architects have often been on the receiving end of quite a lot of stick throughout their career? I remember seeing them on The Here And Now tour cycle and there were people in the crowd booing and giving thumbs down to any tracks they played off that record. I thought it was nuts. These people had paid to see a band live just to boo them. Makes even less sense than the online hate comments to me.

Your health is FANTASTIC now. It’s only now that I’ve come back to this episode for the first time in ~10 months that I can tell. Again, that’s not to say, “Hey man you look like hell in this video!” Lol. No! You look good in this, but you look EVEN better and you FEEL even better at present my friend. Whatever all you’ve been doing in your routine (gotta say you’re making wonder about those powered greens you sponsor), and it’s not to hang in on one thing: your routine is complex I’m sure, so whatever you’ve done from the end of 2022 through end of 2023 has had FANTASTIC impact. Looooooooooooooooved this interview so much ! If i can try to put some light about how i feel about the last two records and the expectations behind the sounds. I'm a huge fan of heavy music since i'm like 5 years old. And to me it has nothing to do with my angryness. Cause heavy songs can be fun or cool (A Day To Remember etc). So basically, i'm an Architects fan since the beginning and i drunk all their efforts, all their pains and supported them along the way cause it mattered to me. And now i'm glad and proud they made it the quite the top level for this kind of music. So with that said, i'm a heavy music fan BUT, i'm a huge Thomas Newman fan aswell. I love Massive Attack, Blink-182, Devil Sold His Soul, Sylosis, Slipknot, Hammock, Deftones, God is an astronaut, Mogwai, Ocean Size, Jimmy eat world, Steven Wilson, Devin Townsend, Stray from the path, Northlane, Dizzy Mizz Lizzy, ochestral music or even ''popier'' songs like Frozen by Madonna etc etc so it's not about genre or Heavyness. What is it about then ? ! There's so many variables in such a large sounding spectrum. But I think, as a composer myself, (working my ass off, alone, on my album for... pfff 10 years now), I tried to put sense behing that myself. My songs blend sad or bright orchestrations, trip-hop, heavy distorded sounds together. In short, i'm playing with contradictory sounds cause we are all fueled by contradictory emotions. Think about bands like Sleep Token : with a lot of pop elements, electronic stuffs but djenty/ metal landscapes. It's not about the "Metal aspects" or the heavyness ass well. To me it's about the grit, the rawness. The same occured with the last Enter Shikary album. I like the songs, i like the structures, the lyrics. But it misses something that was there in albums like The Mindsweep. The same occurs with these new Architects albums. When the sounds feel like there're too polished, so synthetic, too "on the surface" and i know for a fact these songs asked for efforts, and passion. I'm only talking about the result, in my ears. I even bought these last records, so i'm not bashing or whatever. I owe this band so many good mamories and so extraordinary well written songs. I know the guys, i know they put their best in the making of these last two albums, and to be honest, i'm glad they changed their sound cause it would have been soo boring and even dishonest to stick to a sound that is not felt inside, you know ? I think Northlane crushed it with their last album and it is heavier on the electronic / wave side. Their previous album Alien, was good to me. Good songs, good efforts. But something was missing. They managed to correct everything with Obsidian. I mean, let's take a last example : Butterfly Caught By Massive Attack. This is by no means a metal songs And there are lots of electronic elements (the majority i would say). But still, there are raw, deep, unfusing emotions throught sounds and effects that transcends me as deeply as a heavy / metal song. Sorry if it's confusing i wrote it down in one shot, as a French guy. Have a nice day

I totally understand this comment down to its core. When you know the band puts in a massive effort to make what their hearts are bleeding out and then it just doesn’t correlate. This comment is how I stand on the new Parkway drive album. Shit just doesn’t hit the spot anymore but maybe the last 3 or 4 songs. Doesn’t relate to the new architects for me but hey that’s the beautiful thing about music right? There’s so much music out in the world today I’m just glad to be living in a time where I can hear it all at the click of a button.

I too fell in love with the heavier architects I grew up with, and with the loss of Tom they put out one of the best metal core releases I have ever heard in AOGHAU. From that point on the took a drastic change to the"lighter" side of metal core these days which is what is causing the backlash. Myself personally, I am like you. I love this band for what they gave to me when they did, wouldnt dare knock them down now that they are moving to another phase, will always support this band. But totally see where the backlash is coming from

“We’re not talking about Hollow Crown today, by the way.” 😂 WHY NOT, THOUGH?! I’m standing here with my Hollow Crown album waiting for a train that’s never coming.

Another absolute stoater of a pod! Great to hear loads from Dan, Lucky's origin story and the nuances of being true to yourselves as musicians vs pedalling medicine for fans. When a clever bugger once said "it's not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren't doing it" he hit the nail on the head 🤘🏻 Also, it sounds it's time to retire Gone With The Wind from the setlist, it sounds like the price for keeping it in there is too high

55:27 talking about not playin 'gone with the wind' anymore since it hurts them so much... I get it, it hurts just listening/trying too sing along. But from thier prespective hundo% get it!!

"We thought burn down my house would be a track skip" that's my favourite after listening to the album for a few times in haha

The other day I thought of a comparison of bands to clothing brands. You wouldn’t want a clothing brand to just release the same blue t shirt again and again, you’d wanna see different designs, different clothing types etc. in the same way architects now have built a catalogue which gives you the proggresskve heavy tracks, or melancholy stadium rock tunes.

At this point I like it when you don't know what you are gonna get with a band it's exciting whether I like the music or not is a different story but it's pretty exciting to me

I can appreciate the effect "Gone" has on the lads but such a shame not to feature it on the setlist... one of their top 3 songs for me. Thanks for a great episode.
