The bs arc with Zigfried and Kaiba should have been an arc about Joey. Winning a tournament, finally getting the respect he deserves, resolving his relationship with Mai. Instead Joey loses his last duel in the series to Zigfried and gets called a joke by Kaiba in the 2nd to last episode. Some serious bullshit!!! P. S. AND DEFEATING KAIBA!!!
They need to pull a Dragon Ball Super and do another series in between DSOD and GX that does exactly this 💯 I've said it for a LONG time. Make Joey and Kaiba the main protagonist and have Yugi be the side character. Have Joey and Kaiba forced to team up against a new big bad and we see Joey fuse Red Eyes with his other boss monsters and see retrains of his beloved staples. We see him beat Kaiba at the end finally gaining his respect, see him get together with Mai and see them on the beach like Takahashi drew and dedicate the movie to him.
I thought of some names for future Red Eyes support. They just need effects. I came up with some. Feel free to come up with effects to the ones that don't. Let me know your thoughts. If things need balancing or if it's too OP. I don't necessarily play competitively but I feel like for those that do or when we feel like playing that way, Red Eyes should be competitive enough to hold it's own. That also goes for BE and DM but BE and DM have way more support than RE. Their support is just "chef's kiss" compared to RE. RE needs more consistency. RE doesn't know what it wants to do. Mostly they've focused on equip cards, gy, searching recycling, burn damage and boosting ATK from GY. We need stuff we can pitch to Konami to make the deck cohesive, fun to use and viable. Using all of its strategies working together in synergy with things that help keep them on the field and defend against modern cards. I personally would like to see all of Joey's staples work together with RE like how Giltia does for example. @@MrDavidRicketts Tbh I agree with all of that except for Kaiba and Joey teaming up. Unless they were forced to because Yugi isn't in the picture because that's the only way Kaiba would even consider it. But yea the Zigfried arc was such a waste!!!

This is why Joey's last duel in the Yu-gi-oh R manga is a lot better which is a rematch against bandit keith with a God card & that gives him a good conclusion to his arc. & the waking dragons arc was more joey at his peak against mai & valon he even remembered mai's deck enough to create a new strategy against it with double magic armbind & vow of tribe. The only excuse yugi gave joey is the fact that most of the cards were limited cards he never saw ig which also gave kaiba trouble until he pulled off hhis final move
Honestly i didnt care either way, i have no personal infinity twords Joey, but I don't despise or degrade him either. He did alright in that duel he just got outplayed by a stronger deck. Joeys decks were never most cohesive strategies and relied on luck and eventually that backfires on you.
I will always stand by this, Joey got screwed! He's in a Tournament with No Great Ancient Evil, No Kaiba, and especially... No Yugi. This was Joey's Tournament. Facing off against Apdnarg in the 1st Round was great. A tough duel to start, but winning would already prove his worth, especially to his old teacher. Now in terms of Round 2 (Quarter Finals) and Round 3 (The Semi's), he could fight anybody in Round 2, but for Round 3, Rebecca. Beating another confirmed champion in the Prodigy Rebecca, would prove his skill level too. Now for the Finals: Joey vs Sigfried... HERE is where the Kaiba plot could conclude.. Kaiba would announce Sigfried's DQ, prompting Joey's advancement to Duel Yugi, Joey protests but Kaiba immediately shuts him down, and says he (Kaiba) will duel Sigfried. His Tournament, his ruling. Kaiba then defeats Sigfried, and Joey once again stands up, and tells Kaiba, he wants a Finals Match, and challenges Kaiba, who gives him a warning not to tempt him, he's not in a good mood, Which Joey mocks, leading us into a Joey vs Kaiba match. After a long duel, Joey... Wins (Still very close). Kaiba somewhat acknowledges Joey as a Duelist, but not fully, saying... if you want respect, then defeat Yugi. But I doubt you can! Now with Sigfried completely defeated (Leon is not in this timeline), properly escorted off the property, Joey has officially won his 1st Major Tournament, even defeating Kaiba, and has a Title Shot. Of course, after a good and fun duel, Yugi will still Win this duel, but that doesn't take away from Joey's Tournament Victory. He's not King of Games, but he is a Champion!
@@MultiversalStudios Problem is the arc was rushed and thus none of the new characters ourside of vivian were allowed to do anything, hence why Joey dueled Ziegfried after beating Solomon.
He had all the luck he could get, and even two turns to make a good board, but all ends down on how his deck was build in that tournament and it's was pretty bad by how much he relay on the Starlanders cards which aren't great as a archtype.
I'm guessing he lost to Zigfried because Kaiba had to narratively be the one to beat him. Maybe they could've made it like his duel with Yami Marik, where he genuinely would've beat Yami Marik if it wasn't for lapsing into a coma.
I just rewatched that episode today. Can anyone explain to me how Ziedfried brought back his Brujilda by the end of the duel? The previous turn, Joey's Red Eyes had destroyed it. The anime doesn't really explain how Ziegfried resurrected Brujilda. Plus, that's how he won. By attacking Joey with her. I didn't see a "Monster Reborn" card played or anything of the sort.
He summoned 2 bruiilda I saw it he played one magic card to summon one monster, and when he played his magic card to blow away every magic trap card, his trap card automatically activated, and then he summoned another monster
Zigfried show the true power of a control deck. There a saying that you can’t ever control outside factor but can change fate with what you have in your own hands To me this duel show how good Zigfried to be Kaiba equal. At least Joey lost as he also gambled.
One idea I had for an Ep of Yu-Gi-Oh was Yugi had to win a duel using Joey's deck to truly see if Yugi was the greatest duelist he proclaimed himself to be or it was just the cards he had access to Then you could do the opposite with Joey using Yugi's cards. Joey even straight up said that he was completely undeserving of his red eyes until Yami morally just gave it back to him after Battle City
I do disagree with you saying he deserves to lose when he used landstar shot when that was his best possible play. He got a bad hand and did the best with what he had. Joey also did really well against Zigfried getting him down to 100 LP which gave him the toughest duel at that point, and he also had to duel the main villain. Again yeah Joey didn't have to best cards but he did have great tech cards in that arc giant trunade premature burial scapegoat etc... and could only play with what he could draw in a duel. Luck is a big factor in the game in getting the cards you need. He was unfortunately unlucky at the wrong time.

Yeah Joey should never have got past Odin but also keep in mind Joey played very well into valon and mai in the waking the dragons arc under pressure and one of the duels he was super tired
I feel like the fact it is Filler, specifically a Kaiba centered filler is part of the issue. Ziegfried was always gonna duel Kaiba, that was planned from the get go, with Kaiba kicking his ass. However, the arc was also painfully rushed hence the reason the only new Duelist to actually duel on screen other than Ziegfried and Leon was Vivian Wong. Had the arc been longer and more like an actual tournament then Joey likely would've made it to the finals of the Tournament to duel either Ziegfried or Leon, giving him a chance to shine properly.
It would have been nice to see Joey win this or even to have avoided this duel entirely, but the series needed Joey to lose this one to Zigfried so that people would take him as a threat...the best possible other option would be to have Rebecca lose to him but then we wouldn't get the pay off later of her losing to Zigfried's brother...without main characters taking a hit in this season, we could not take the villains seriously in this arc...it sucks but it was what had to be done
i really hated that duel, and was shocked that he lost or that they dint say Zigfried cheated i expect him to win and that lose was out of nowhere i really heate that duel and it lives joey on a lose as he never dueld again ;/
Kinda sucks that Joey lost, but the way he lost was perfect though. Joey was often depicted as an extremely lucky duelist. It is pretty believable for someone to be very lucky, we all know someone who seems to be incredibly lucky. But not all the time lucky. This Duel kinda distinguished Joey's luck from Yugi's millennium puzzle plot device, which was quite needed.
I kinda assumed Zigfried was cheating for the same reason his Castle of Stromberg was illegal: his cards weren’t real and were totally broken. The biggest downside I can think to them was that they’re mostly high-level, hence difficult to summon.
Not only was this duel an insult to Joey, but even the bird for the audience(myself included). In my opinion, Zigfried is just another villian trying to affect kaiba corp. There is almost nothing interesting about him other than his deck. I was so satisfied when he lost to kaiba. He makes me angry not only for beating Joey, but just having a bad background story. It would have been more interesting if this arc was about Joey becoming a master duelist or even Leon defeating Joey and Joey being grateful about his duels. There are many better ideas than what they gave us.
I'm not saying zigfried cheated, but the duel disk can shuffle decks. You can tell this because there are multiple card edfects that rewuire deck shuffling after their effect, but we never once see a duelist shuffle their deck mid duel.
I think it would be interesting if you could try to figure out how/if zigfried could actually 1 turn ko rex and weevil with the cards he plays in all his other duels
I am rewriting my own what if Seto Kaiba was the protagonist. In my version Seto and Joey are the true rivals. All of Yugi friends are have been reincarnated from ancient Egypt. Now not all have there millennium items. My plotline follow everything in the anime but with a few more things added. Joey has been Seto's bully and rival since childhood. After getting adoptive Seto and Joey won't see other until high school. The gang all goes to the same private rich school and Seto hasn't forgot about what Joey did to him or his brother during childhood. Joey only remember that he and Seto only went to the same preschool. Yes I said private rich school because it don't make since for Seto Kabia to go to the same school as Yugi and his friends. Seto wins his three Blue-eyes White Dragons from his first Duelist Kingdom Tournament. There only three copies and not four copies of Blue-eyes. Seto still lose to Yugi in there first match. Seto wins his Battle City Tournament but it goes Yugi vs Marik, Seto vs Joey and Seto vs Yugi.
The problem is with this Joey versus ziegfried battle is that this should have been like maybe the quartifying those semi-finals of the tournament then I can understand his loss but this is the second match in the tournament after his first match with Grandpa Joey didn't even face off with anybody else That's the problem more so than anything else because it does make Joey look like a joke because at least if Joey was ranking up scores by the time he got to ziegfried and him losing the Z3 it would have made sense because zigfree is a powerful duelist once again Joey coming in almost at the last minute to take the victory but ziegfried was able to manage to survive that turn and then was able to defeat Joey kind of like how it was against Yami Marik that's what should have happened to Joey not him being the butt of the joke and that was the problem with the KC Grand Prix they made Joey a joke.
You may never know the outcome drawing card is luck and shuffle cards are also luck and I may never what card I’m drawing, I know in real life I duel with my cards I may have good or bad hands cards from started.
Dont really care about it since its not canon. The anime filler in generel paints Joey in a strange way. For example he doesnt lose to Yugi in DK, to Kaiba in BC and Ziegfried doesnt exist. Or the best anime only BS where Duke beats Joey in a duel, which also never freaking happened in the manga. His last canon duel is the off screen one against Atem that he won. He's also far from the brawler that he is in the manga. In the anime Kaiba easely overpowers and throws Joey around, something he doesnt do and wouldn't dare doing in the canon manga. We also see how easely Bandit Keith overpowers Joey in the anime, while in the manga Joey beats the shit out of Bandit Keith without even using his hands and even telling him that while Keith may be a pro duelist, he doesnt stand a chance against Joey in an actuall fight. Keep in mind that the manga came first and is thr canon. Joey being the creators fave character makes much more sense in the manga than in the anime.
