I knew 5200 was strong but I had no idea it could hold up a whole entire boat. That is incredible.

For what it is worth, rather than risk damage to the bill with chisels, you should try taking some braided fishing line and use it as a rope saw for cutting the 5200.

5200 is crazy good stuff. If you use a heat gun and warm it up it helps to release the bond.
@youdonthavetoreadthispost.5850
The hardware is not straining much. I set a pilot house on some and backed it up but it never would have moved. It was a strong, strong bond that would rip up the deck before letting go. Good stuff for the right purpose.

Two suggestions, #1 wedge the engine instead of the whole bracket and #2 there is a chemical solution to remove 5200.

Seems the engine needed to be higher up at its mount. Wedging the engine is not going to do it.
@daddski1

@@robertp7209 Maybe and maybe not. This only raised it a matter of a couple inches tops. Wedging and raising the engine using the lower bolt holes may have worked and there would be no future worry about his wedging material shim correctly or work free over time, engine torque when accelerating and decelerating,.... and waves pounding it.

You put the bracket on incorrectly by not compensating for the distance behind the transom where the motor is... Engineering rule of thumb is add 1 inch for every 1 ft. in your case it looks like the bracket moves the engine back by about 28-30 inches. I noticed your mistake when you mounted the bracket... It might sound like a stupid question for seasoned boaters, but bear with me for a second: why not attach the engine to the transom directly (maybe strengthening the transom before, if needed) instead of put it on a bracket with all this work to do?

An old boat with new hardware is a gem. A new boat with cheap hardware is a problem waiting to happen. Marine stainless is king. The hull itself is what really matters. You can build a better boat than they did. I've done it more than once and I'm doing it right now on a welded aluminum boat that should last a lifetime. Start with the right hull. Look for a matching wrong hull with top notch hardware. Go new in critical areas and you will have a fine and seaworthy vessel you can depend on - Fail Safely 🙂 and pay attention to these vids.
