I like a few Drake songs, but for me, he is like an R&B artist that can rap sometimes. Not even fair to him to be compared with Em, Kendrick or Nas. I didn't like the album, and I don't think this is a hip hop album. If this is considered hip hop, just a few songs from Nas and Grip albums WASHED both CLB and Donda combined. By Far.

I love the album, almost start to finish, but I’ve always liked him because there’s no denying he’s a world class talent. And yes, it is pretty much typical Drake, he’s not really trying to push the envelope or reinvent the wheel, but I thought it was a very solid effort. He’s at the tippy tippy top of his game, so people always gonna hate when you at the level and find fault with everything. But when I hear someone that likes hip hop say he’s trash, then I’m like ok you just don’t know music. It’s like when people say Beyoncé can’t sing or is talentless. He/she may not be be a person’s cup of tea but there’s no denying he has talent, which he apparently hasn’t tapped out on yet. The lyricism hasn’t lost any of its luster at all even after all these years. Most other rappers in the game can’t do what he just did on this track, or do what he did in Champaign Poetry, rap over a track without a beat but still have it knock. People confuse their personal preferences or tastes with recognizing actually skill and talent, so every opinion isn’t always valid. Plus most niggas is wearing slim/skinny jeans these days and clothes that fit, so that beef about him singing is beyond played out.

the lamars , rakims , em , jay z , etc are a different school, more gangsta rap ,old school, more story telling stuff, they try to talk community issues , human rights in general and from the hood. but drake is entering the pantheon of rap from a different door imo ,thats why hardcore rap listeners / old-heads , are hatin on him, because its weird for them, hes approaching rap from a more modern relatable stuff - door , hes givin new approach to the rap game , doesnt have to be hood stuff nor story telling stuff , not even very technical lyrics like em's lyrics are. i mean hood stuff wont be relatable if you think about it, in 100 years from now , because the quality of life is improving slowly. BUT , the last album was meh , he needs to do better , i undertand hes curently chasin numbers ,sales wise. that era started from the views album ( minus more life which is a quality release) and you can see thats when he started to sell more , more no.1s etc. but imo he now needs to take a step back from the numbers game and focus more on quality rather on quantity as hes now doing.
