Steinbeck describes her as "the perfect liar" in the book. He goes on to say that most liars get tripped up because they forget the lies they tell. But Kate (Kathy) is perfect because she always remembered her lies.
"You want the truth, Jules? I don't think you do." She was SO CHILLING as Cathy. Seymour's best performance ever, if you ask me. Too bad it was unavailable for so long, but wonderful that it finally is again!
hottest sociopath EVER! Jane is so under-rated...she's every bit as good as some of the higher profile people and much more beautiful than most....yet she's forgotten and overlooked...it's a shame she's definitely one of my top 3!
Far and away the absolute BEST PORTRAYAL OF A FEMALE PSYCHOPATH ever on film. Nobody can touch Jane Seymour's work in this drama. Honestly, I can't recall a single bad performance from anyone in this whole thing. But, Seymour... Damn😬
I wanted to see more of Jane Seymour in Frankenstein The True Story. She played the evil Prima who was brought back to life. She was to be the love of Frankenstein’s Monster until he was tired of her rejecting him. He came to a ball where men were fawning all over her and Frankenstein’s monster ripped her head off.
Jane was so bad ass in this role she fascinated me. You know an actress is totally convincing when you have to remind yourself they are a normal person in real life.
I was hoping someone had put this whole movie on youtube but I guess I will have to order it. I remember this coming on when I was in my early 20's and staying glued to the TV. Best movie ever, they don't make'em this good anymore.
Jamie Campbell I was able to get it from Netflix. In two parts. I saw it when it was on tv and never forgot it. None of my friends had seen it. So I got the Netflix DVD’s . They were all impressed. Too many people who never read the novel think the boring, poorly acted 1956 movie with movie star Elizabeth Taylor and movie star James Dean told the story. BS! These are Hollywood manufactured fairy tales. Not real ACTORS. The real story, with real actors, that kept true to the novel was this mini series. Which did the John Steinbeck novel the justice it deserved. Jayne WAS Cathy. And Timothy Bottoms WAS Adam. They did their homework and played their characters as written . As did the rest of the cast.
hello I read your post and was wondering ho w to go about ordering the DVD to this movie as well as the Poseidon adventure featuring Shellie Winters. can I use a debit card to place orders or do u have to be a member of Netflix??? is there a 1-800 number?? please respond at your earliest convenience..thank UU.
The 1955 movie was an utter mess but, FYI, Jo Van Fleet was not in that trainwreck. Older Cathy, in that adaptation, was played by Jo Van Fleet. Elizabeth Taylor was only opposite James Dean in the incredible, Giant. And her performance in THAT was note perfect.
The book pretty much explains it. Cathy was born without a conscience or the ability to love. She just saw people as a means to get what she wanted wich was mostly money. She aged badly and got stuck in that brothel because of greed. She ended up committing suicide
Kind of curious how in the movie (not sure about the book) she has arthritis really bad and can barely put on or take off gloves, or hold a cup of tea. And she says it runs in her family - her mother was just starting to get it when she killed her parents by burning down their house.
In the movie she had a nervous breakdown, ironically because of the children she tried to abort. As an act of vengeance the son that was more like her, surprised her by bringing his virtuous brother to the brothel that she owned, and shoved him on top of her, saying "say hello to your mother". When she looked into his eyes, It was implied that she saw the virtue that she could never have, and went crazy because of it.
Wonderful movie, one of my favorites..The book is just as good as the movie. This is one of those movies I could watch over and over again. The movie has alot of real life truth's to it. A cain and abel story on the screen.
Unless it's the 1981 ABC miniseries presentation you recorded on VHS, you were screwed if you bought the miniseries on VHS. I hope you bought the DVD set already and discovered the entire version.
The story is written to be a modern adaptation of the myth of the sons of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel. Caleb is Cain & Aron is Abel, but the plot is much more complicated, since in the end it is not known if Caleb is really Cain. Everyone assumes that and I think it is a mistake. Caleb is ruthless with his brother, does not obey and is rebellious, but at the same time he respects his father and tries to be better than his mother. There is no evidence that he is really the cursed brother. It is a novel about options, those who choose to be are those who prevail or die, according to their choice. Free will is what predominates in the Trask family.
@@BigfistJP Timshel in the way "you can", but i preffer to think it´s more about "chose, you have free will". It´s about the possibility, please, choose well, fly the right way, it is so easy to do well
I have been a fan of Jane since 1980 and, by playing Cathy/Katie Trask, there is no other character that Jane has ever played before or since that has ever put me on the edge of my seat! A magnificent and very ‘disturbing’ performance by Jane Seymour! 😮
oh she was awesome in this movie and quite the sociopath, she would have to be to leave two adorable babies who needed her undivided attention, she couldn't help but show her alley cat ways being under the influence brings out your true feelings and she sure did pay the price getting her ass beat down like that, she bumped heads with another egomaniac, some folks don't take kindly to having there feelings toyed with or being humiliated.
I'd very much like Scarlett Johansson or Ekatrina Vilkova taken this role - Kathy. I think they're facially fit the description. Work on the zombie gaze and we'll have Cathy.
