This is such an amazing summary of the Prison Arc! It's such a facinating part of the DSMP story, and it's always been hard to get a full picture of since it's one of the more spread out arcs, in terms of time and POVs, and it's so easy to look and explain it inaccurately from just one. But you and your co-writer clearly put a lot of time and effort into a succinct and accurate analysis, it's incredible!
I have to say, I did NOT expect Dream to remain locked up for over half a year. I really applaud the DSMP's writers' commitment to long-term storytelling.
Actually, i think it was more accidental than anything. The SMP has been relatively dead lately, pretty much since will was revived, 3 months after dream was locked up. That, and also the factor of his cellmate being in very poor health and mostly unable to do lore (or at least gameplay, hence podcast) definitely contributed to this arc dragging on for as long as it did. If the server gets revived, probably after Techno is past the health issues, and Wilbur realizes that his current method of writing isn't really working and none of the actors enjoy it (a lot of them have talked about how much they dislike the less improvised, fully scripted lore that has become Will's style recently, compared to the normal scripted improv that they used to do), and then there'll be more actual plot instead of just setups for plots
@@apersonwhomayormaynotexist9868 I don't think its dead anymore I think the wait was intentionally made also techno's condition is fine he's young and its shoulder cancer he'll be ok and after techno's new stream when he escaped hope you watched it.
@@otakusenpai9977 It definitely wasn't intentional, it's just that all the players lost interest through a mixture of unsure direction, and Wilbur's poor story strategy for moving forwards which they all didn't like. That along with the fact that Techno was still a vital player and couldn't really do much led to the server's downfall, whether temporary or not. Techno is definitely still feeling the effects of what happened, and I don't think he'll be doing much intense gameplay anytime soon. I don't think you or anyone else can make the call that he'll be fine, or that he is fine until he makes a public statement, and whether you like it or not, the server did die. It might be revived, if many of the older members want to return and Wilbur finds a better strategy, but until then, its fate is in turmoil beyond specifically techno and quackity's plotlines.
@@apersonwhomayormaynotexist9868 ok one I see your opinion but please try to word it better Wilbur does NOT have poor writing poor writing is not in anyway close to what Wilbur writes and the players have NOT lost interest it hasn’t gotten any where lately for you cause you haven’t caught up with most things like quackity becoming an enemy of tubbo or fundy’s nightmare dream lots of things are happening on the server that have nothing to do with the main plot and I won’t say that techno is safe however I will say by a statistic stand point is on his side now about what you claim, the SMP is NOT dead just because you have an opinion on something does not make it correct Claiming that the smp is dead because you lost interest in it does not mean jack shit to anybody except yourself, that ties into you needing to work better on the way you word things if you need evidence that it isn’t dead go look at the views of recent smp videos I can Guarantee you’ll find way more than just a thousand .
@@otakusenpai9977 I never claimed wilbur's writing was bad lol, you just wrote an essay on something I just did not say. My claim is that wilbur's current style of storytelling for the SMP, that being highly scripted content with little room for the original scripted improv that made the server gain its popularity has led to the decline in the quantity of content, and especially has led to many of the members losing interest altogether. Tubbo and Ranboo have talked about this on multiple occasions, about why so many people have been inactive on the server, and why most of them dont like streaming lore anymore, because when they do, it has to be very scripted, very planned, and wilbur's way. Before wasting your time responding to a strawman, make sure you actually read what somebody says.
I love c!dream's character so much. He is so interesting. His whole action: "the ends justify the means" is soooo 💕 And when you read more and more analysis about c!dream's action, you love him more and more (or just me?) He did bad things, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying his character :)
@@white52 i think you should read some Dream analysis. They'r really interesting, he is a well-written character, even cc!Dream himself said his character is hard to describe, he is reversed. To me, his reason and his motivation is so attractive. Maybe it's because we don't have his POV, so it make the story more hard to follow :)
Something weird I noticed about the prison arc is a lot of similaritys between dreams cat (hope) and his horse (spirit) and their effects on the plot. The big thing about these two is that they are dreams attachments despite his claims to have none but why the important part is not how dream interacts with them but how tommy does think about it. Both of these two became giant catalysts for the worst parts of tommy's life after tommy abused them Tommy used spirits remains to manipulate dream and in response dream forces tubbo to exile him Tommy killed hope inorder to hurt dream and in response dream killed tommy. Its also interesting because throughout the entire server these are the only times dream has actively snapped. I think we can use just this to guess where the server is going.
Here goes to show that c!Dream was never the bad guy in the story n what he said was actually true. He wanted everyone to be happy and safe on his server. I hope one day we can see his pov cuz I'm interested in his character and how it became to this day. Especially what's the connection between him and c!Ranboo. I don't believe he munipulate c!Ranboo or even controlling him. I think there's more to it then him playing the bad guy. Which is why I get excited whenever Ranboo have a lore stream >^
@@seiru_ryu I agree that his motivation was good in first few arcs, but after Wilbur died, he became monster with no real motivation than to control everything and torment a child. I get that some people like "end justifies the means", but for me, if character does something horrendous on purpose, even if for good reason, the character is still a monster who did terrible things. I just can't symphatize with his character. I am sorry.
@@seiru_ryu good morals doesn't necessarily means he is a good person tho. He *is* a bad guy, and his intentions can't really justify it. There's almost nothing that could possibly justify almost driving a teenager into su*cide (and then killing said teenager)and manipulating everyone to control the server INCLUDING children, the only possible thing i can think of would be if he was being controlled (which i doubt) or he didn't do anything (which i doubt even more). Obviously those are just the worst things he's done, there's more. He might have wanted everyone to be happy, but went too far and became a villain. Sorry if i said bs, but i hope this was clear and made sense
Dream is one of my favorite charecters as he has interesting movtives. I don't like tommys charecter as he is really annoying to me he like " I WANT MY DICS EVEN THOUGH I GAVE THEM UP WILLING I WANT THEM BACK FOR NO REAL REASON." Like bro you can get some with creeper and skelton give up. Also why everyone yeling at dream for killing tommy when he KILLED A CAT AND I CANT FORGIVE!!!!
My theory: Dream controlled Ender Ranboo to blast the top of the prison so that Tommy gets locked with him. This causes Tommy to get mad and they have a fight where Tommy dies. Tommy gets brought back and Tommy is convinced to kill Dream but brings Ghostbur though Ghostbur dies and Wilbur is brought back. Wilbur after making his new nation decides to helps Dream escape prison to get a direct advantage against Las Nevadas. Therefore, Dream escaped prison without even attempting. The plan was all in his brain. The only thing that is close to foiling his plans are Techno being stuck in the same prison as Dream. ALSO Dream checked on the clock every once in a while so that he could decide the perfect time when Ranboo could blast the prison
I thought I was the only one who remembered this, but there was that time dream said a lore stream was coming soon and gave us a preview of him and Sam standing in the courtyard while light was shining in, and dream said "That doesn't seem like a huge security risk to you?!", and even though we never got that lore stream, I'm glad we know what it meant
Animagician, please read Do you remember that one time where the obsidian cracked around the egg and turned into crying obsidian? What if the crying obsidian in the prison is just the egg trying to get to dream?
@@sometallnerd5499 no it's never confirmed that there was a third season So as far as I see it There's only 2 seasons 1 is finished and the other one is still going on
@Sydney Osburn oh I didn't know lol It just seemed like after Dream was imprisoned that was the end of an entire season Not just one of them Also I went off of Tommy's VOD saying the dream smp finale so I assumed that was the end of season 1
Dream Prison Escape Theory and What he will do: The season finale is gonna be dream escaping and season 4 will be about hunting him down and stopping him from causing trauma. Which will start the supervillain arc which is Dream and Wilbur which will make sense because they are the main villains. This would mean that Wilbur and Dream (or Ramboo if you seen Wilburs stream with him having Ranboo do things for him) Have Ranboo do things for them Which is when Las Nevadas gets destroyed by Ranboo. The explosion on Tommy’s Visit theory: On February 25-26 (can’t remember) is the day the tnt got blown up which is why tommy stayed in prison longer which is why tommy got killed by dream. I think that on that day Wilbur was controlling Ghostbur telling Ranboo to grab tnt and head to the roof of the prison which is when Ranboo blew up the tnt creating that hole in the roof that Tubbo and Phil saw. The last words Wilbur said to Ranboo is when he gets revived, remember this voice if you ever hear it again know it’s me and follow my orders, which is why when Wilbur gets revived Ranboo follows his orders. That’s why I think that Wilbur told Ranboo to blow up the prison roof for him since he wasn’t there to do it so he can break Dream out. Thank you for staying and reading my long as heck 2 theorys. Have a good Morning/Noon/Night.
Nice recap during the lore drought, I never had time to watch Quackity's lore streams and this was helpful for me understanding more of the lore, thanks!
But it makes sense when dream said “I did bad things for good reasons…””to bring everyone together…” because everyone did fight together to defeat jschlat and everyone did help tommy and tubo stop dream so really war is the only way they work together if you think about it…
Do you think that the reason why dream really entered the prison is to protect himself from the egg? I mean there is this theory about the egg and it's relation to the "inbetweeners". And the ":]" relation to dream and the inbetweeners.
This is a theory I made with a friend: The reason because shlatt died permanently when he suffered the heart attack is because when he got banned by dream, he lose two of his canonical lifes, because remeber that the thing of the lifes came after Tommy’s ban. We were bored lol
i know this is hella old, but did they retcon the exit process in the of the prison cell in the little water puddle thing. like did they officially say that wasnt a thing anymore? cause it would've saved tommy easy, so what happened?
@@Ani oh, no i meant the exit that sam designed for visitors. Where you right click the black bad outside the cell and then when youre done visiting, you sit in the puddle and get killed by the insta damage potion? i think tommy used it in his first visit to dream
1:10 sorry but can I have a source for this or something? I've never heard this before and I'm really connected with what happens in the lore so for me to have missed something is really rare, I just want to fact check you.
It's an Eggpire stream, forgot whose POV. The Eggpire (which then still included Sam and Puffy) was in a meeting and they wanted to kill Tommy, by which point Sam and Puffy protested and Sam said Dream told him about Exile. It should be around late January/February I think
Ok people yell at dream for being bad and is a mindless monster lets add things up shall we Dream only took tommy's dics so he wouldn't have to put him in jail and ban him again after breaking rules Dream didn't want l'manburg because it declared independence and he wanted everyone to be one family He WILLING HELPED pogtopia because he didn't like Schlatt Was willing to peacfully move on with tubbo till tommy threatened his horse L'manburg was a corrupt country and will always have someone in control do shitty things only killed tommy in retaliation of tommy killing his cat. Is being punished for wanting interaction Half the time is being starved to near death while yes he manipulated lots of people i don't think touter is the answer of helping him or fixing anything all of his books were burned for tommys selfish needs did we all forgot dream was kinda fine till tommy killed the cat He was willing to give the leverage he stole back to tommy Even if he won the war he let wilbur blow it up He helped tommy in the battle of the lake He only wanted tommy exiled because he burnt down georges house Ok if he was a mindless monster why did he jump to save the cat from being hit?
