+JeBron Lames That's because you don't play football like the rest of the planet. And I know it's going to be impossible for you to admit it's the honest truth but just try not to be too butthurt.
Jamming InDaStreets I know that. I makes me mad that we don't respect football (soccer) like the rest of the world. So this is nice to have something of our own.
it was against the rules for professional athletes to compete in the Olympics because the Olympics are amateur games but then they changed the rule, and we had seen enough of Russia cheating their way to gold
“I look to my right, there's Michael Jordan ... I look to my left, there's Charles Barkley or Larry Bird ... I didn't know who to throw the ball to!” - Magic Johnson 1992
I would make i few replacements first I would replace Karl Malone,Charles Barkley, and John Stockton with hitmen no flack to these players and I know the response is late but hell humanity shit this other team. Sounds like bad guys im just finna but automatic guns on these hitmen and call it a day Technically a better team and a responce that garners no criticism
Michael Jordan: There was an idea Magic Johnson: To bring together a group of remarkable people Patrick Ewing: To see if we could become something more Larry Bird: So that when they needed us, we could fight the battles Charles Barkley: That they never could
How the Olympics should be played. The best players from every country. If the Americans are 100x better than any other team that shouldn't matter. If they're the best, they deserve to be the champions.
I agree, but a big part of it was players not wanting to join those international teams because they cared more about winning for their NBA teams. Getting way less time to practice and work with your teammates is a big deal, not to mention the risk of injury. Imagine if MJ tore an ACL playing an international game, a game many people considered "meaningless" in the states.
A lot of people don't know this but Charles Barkley DOMINATED the Olympics that year. I mean even with that dream team cast he had he was the leading person in just about every area of a stat sheet.
Earvin “Magic” Johnson Michael “Air” Jordan Larry Bird Patrick Ewing Charles Barkley Scottie Pippen Clyde”the Glide” Drexler David “Admiral” Robinson Chris Mullin John Stockton Karl “The Mailman” Malone Christian Laettner Greatest basketball team ever USA 🇺🇸 Gold medal 🥇 1992 Barcelona 🇪🇸 Summer Olympic Games
The greatest shooting guard ever (Jordan) The greatest point guard ever (Magic) The greatest forward ever (Larry Joe Bird) All those 3 legends on the same Olympic team 🇺🇸 🥇
To think...this team ALMOST had a rookie Shaquille Oneil on the roster as well. Not that they needed it...but holy smokes that woulda been insane. He was not well known at the time so Christian Laettner was selected instead lol
Shaq was well known at the time as he was an First Team All American in 1991 and 1992 and the college basketball player of the year in 1991. The difference was that Duke with Laettner won back to back championships and Laettner made some clutch shots and he won the player of the year in 1992. It looks silly now if you factor in their professional careers but back then Laettner was considered the better college player.
Beantowner remember during the olympics one game the USA team won but they played so sloppy the dream team had a practice when they played each other and magic told mike “ you can have the college kid we don’t want him “ imagine if Shaq was selected instead of Lattener I could hear magic tell Michael “ we got the big fellow ha ha ha
Shaq was very well known. Laettner was chosen because he had just won 2 championships (with a clutch shot in 1 of them) and was older. In the end, neither of them (being very young) would have got many minutes over Ewing and Robinson who were both in their prime. Wouldn't have changed much. But, Shaq was probably the better athlete vs Laettner even in 92.
They literally made all the other countries seem like child's play. It was a dunk lay up fest, covered with and one's and open shot's with blocks steals ALL over the place. They're unbeatable.
Y'know I didn't know who was on the 1992 Dream Team going into this video, and after watching the video I'm just sitting here thinking "Yeah it's literally impossible to beat this team" Like jesus that team was beyond stacked. BEYOND stacked.
this team is untouchable.. 2008 redeem team had a hard time against spain beating them in the finals by only 11 points or something.. 2012 usa team won against lithuania with only 5 pts lead and 7 pts against spain.. clearly the 92 dream team is still the greatest team ever...
@@drewmalesky9869 No, Europe is not getting better simply because you see so many eu players in the NBA now. 90s Europe had more talent and if the Croatian and Yugoslavian teams (didn't participate that year because of the UN) competed today in EU basketball they would dominate everyone easily. Its just that the original Dream Team was THAT good. And yes, the reason you see so many EU players in the NBA right now is precisely because of that: there are no Magic Johnsons and Jordans anymore in the NBA and every mediocre European can play there (back then it was only the best of the best like Divac, Kukoc, Petrovic or late Sabonis). Its that the NBA is not that good anymore.
Loved this era of basketball. I still remember being 12 and walking to McDonalds getting those cups from the meals! I had all of them!! Too bad I never kept them.
It is honestly just unbelievable to see how much talent was on this team. NEVER again in all of sports history will you see such an Allstar team in any sport 👍
+Shadowboost I would say so. I'm open to hearing a case for a team that was not just dominant, but iconic on a global level. There are many players from other countries in the NFL today that credit the dream team for peaking their interest in basketball at a young age.
10:00 Sir Charles and Scottie having some great fun... I have watched all these games tens of times already... and there is something new I find and appreciate.
Cuz everyone put their pride to the side and set out to accomplish something for the country. It's upsetting that it takes a war type of events for our country to come together.
Seeing this team play- was just beautiful. Watching them dance around- it’s beautiful They didn’t play just because, they knew it was bigger than themselves. Something can’t be explained about-
NEVER AGAIN WILL WE SEE -- 12 Players ALL of which are hall of famers **Disclaimer - Laettner was a college player and he was inducted into the Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.
crandolph3319 - not just HOFamers but First Ballot HOFamers. And many of them are some of the greatest ever at their positions. The greatest squad ever assembled in any sport. Period.
The best part about this team wasn’t the level of talent. It was how they didn’t half ass it. They could have all met up at the arena on game days and still won gold but they didn’t just throw this team out there. These guys put in work before the Olympics to make sure they had all that talent working perfectly together as The Dream Team! And what a show we got!
+Magnus Slaughter as MJ said, "The College kid can't help us." He was on the team just to appease the purists who wanted college kids to still be a part of the experience. Not saying he didn't contribute, but everyone on the team is a 1st ballot HOF player...everyone but Christian.
Saw this dream team in the flesh and my goosebumps continues watching them now...a lifetime treasure experience that stays forever in my mind and heart...
I watched that Angola game live. I was 9 years old. How unfair that game was can't be understated. The USA players literally looked like they were practicing a pregame walkthrough session. Something like 30 real time minutes went by at one point in the game between Angola getting field goals. It truly was the greatest collection of basketball talent ever assembled. And Christian Laettner.
"You can't cover the Sun with just your finger"... Coach of the Cuban basketball team after loosing to the U.S. Can you imagine how good this team must had been? completely blowing out and destroying Cuba another team of "professionals" by 79 points!!! in just the opening game! They nearly loss by Hundred...That's.....INCREDIBLE! They blew out everyone by nearly 50 points on average to get the Gold. Such a legendary Star studded lineup you can understand why the '92 Dream Team is the Greatest team of ALL Time they have no equal.
The Dream Team sent every other country's international basketball programs back to the drawing board. They'd all thought they were good until they played REAL basketball players. But that's how we got Nowitzski, the Gasaul brothers, Yao Ming, and the other international players, in the NBA today and why Olympic basketball is much more competitive now. They all learned from that Dream Team.
Exactly. Imagine if all these guys were in their primes together??!!!!! Just can’t imagine what the outcome would be. They killed everyone with this team where most of these guys were in their late twenties to mid thirties. That’s soooooooo impressively unreal. I would say that this is the best team because of their HEART. These guys played hard with a ton of heart. HEART IS A RARITY NOWADAYS........😔🙏🏼
Anytime in Thier professional career was good because they still had it in them to light it up for least a game. They didn't need them for an entire series too much talent on one team.
Without question the greatest collection of athletes ever assembled in any sport. They had won the gold medal before the games started, it was just a matter of how bad it was gonna be for everyone else.
Never again will any team come close to the Majestic caliber that this team had! If you had the chance to see them live, you would agree! I was one of the few! That’s the epitome of GREATNESS! Dream team 1992 🏆
bird and johnson were in the twilight of their careers, hell they were both retired i think. to see them both play with this much vigor and competitiveness, i can't image what they were like in their primes. legends. the game will never forget.
THE GREATEST TEAM EVERRRR! I'm proud to have watched some of these basketball greats and these games even on tv only in my lifetime. Hw lucky a girl can be!!!❤❤❤
Hey there soccer legend Johan Cryuff just died today. So please do a video on him, he is the man that single handedly revolutionize soccer to the way we know it today and it is warm my heart a thousand times over if you did a video on him.
I was in high school then and we got to watch every game they played was in fact a Dream Team to our era in Basketball there will never be a time like this for Basketball 🏀 the Greatest team that ever came out to play 💯
I remember back in 1992, I never missed a game from US Dream Team of Basketball, fuck, I still have VHS tapes recorded from the TV of some of those games. It was the best thing Basketball has ever seen.
