Welcome to The Dressrosa Disaster Premiere! Don't forget to leave a comment in the comments section for a chance to be shouted out in a future GLR video!
I have commented one word for each video from 'One Piece Characters based on Real People' to 'Chapter 1017 Review' and now while awaiting for the premiere it's time for a hunt to uncover the hidden sentence. Goodluck.
Did we read the same manga ? Swear to God Rebecca's flash back was shown once in the manga in it's entirety. I can't say the same for the anime obviously
Are we just gonna forget Law's backstory? One of my favorites among Luffy, Robin, Sanji and Nami. The socio political themes and their impact of the characters was so heartbreaking.
@@szeretemahansant226how u gonna nerd emoji someone for political analysis of media with a kotor 2 pfp as if that’s not one of the most political RPGs ever made
Funny thing is, most people like this arc when they binge read or watch it. Most of the people in this video speak from week to week read/watch experience.
I binge read it and yeah my experience was probably much better than those who read weekly, but it was still a slog in a lot of ways. I think anyone who actually WATCHED it weekly should get a goddamn medal for their service
@@boonsaplenty3924 I disagree. I never felt that it was a slog. The arc has so much going on and without any artifical stretched out content its one of the best in the series.
@@furorteutonicus9045 I mean I wasn't really arguing that it is "objectively" a slog, just my own personal experience was (I probably could have been clearer in my word choice). A lot of things about the super arc structure that Oda was developing was rubbing me the wrong way: I didn't like all the henchman that ended up being pretty irrelevant/unmemorable in their personality gimmicks (Machvise, Dellinger, Gladius), or the constant cutting away that made really quick fights feel like a slog bc of how long it took to get back to them. But these are things that Oda's only gotten better about since then, making all the chaos feel structured (admittedly, there were a bunch of henchman and cutaways before, but not on the scale that Dressrosa forward has had). But I'm glad you had a good experience, and I will totally grant you that all of the main story beats did not feel arbitrary or superfluous.
It's funny because I started watching one piece again after the dressrosa arc ended. I had seen the marineford war and I got hooked to one piece again that I rewatched the whole anime again. And I really enjoyed the dressrosa arc hahah
I guess watching it live / reading it live would've been exhausting however being able to watch it in a week or two was amazing for me! I absolutely loved this arc. It's so heart warming and its an IMPORTANT arc!!
Yeah wano deffo has been crafted better. Was good that he had acts and gave us short breaks to the outside world before going right back into arc. Felt fresh..
@@TheRealWoopSlap im on whole cake, i dont think dressrosa was that bad, i actually really liked it, but just not the still animations and waiting 3 episodes for a fight
I was a bit skeptical that this documentary would focus too much on the anime side and completely ignore the manga but Im pleasantly surprised to see Liam divide his video neatly in 2 covering both aspects on their own. People dont say GLR is the best one piece channel for nothing.
The first major arc I read when it was being released weekly, I remember loving it and being told I was “wrong” for liking it. The same thing has unironically happened with Wano.
I love Dressrosa too, and I watched it. I don’t understand all the hate. It was fun, set up many major plot points (revolutionary army), and also set up major arcs (zou/whole cake).
i can't speak for others but my main issues with the dressrosa arc and why i also initially stopped reading one piece weekly is due to the fact that they introduced soo many characters that at a certain point it just became frustrating seeing oda trying to juggle 5 storylines / fights at once instead of really exploring and making an enjoyable / relatable character / story i couldn't enjoy the flow of the anime, everything feels so artificially slow and as soon as you started noticing the ammount of flashback / "filler" that were being used you just couldn't unnotice it -> let's be clear i don't dislike flashbacks since they are vital to storytelling (law / corazon / doffy) but the rule of thump tends to be that you should make your "reminiscing / recapping" flasbacks as short as possible, short enough so that it will still "conjure" the emotion that you want you want your viewers to feel there were just too many moments where it feels like the story was elongated just to fill in time - seeing luffy get punched by bellamy's bouncing attack 4 episodes in a row while i'm wondering how many times he actually got punched and how many times it was a recap - flashbacks to already seen flashbacks where they showed the large part of the flashback again instead of limiting it to a couple of seconds - the constant "recapping" by viola while also constantly cutting towards everyone AND their mother's reaction to something that's happening - doffy being a complete moron when it comes to "going for the jugular" -> the ammount of times that doffy was pissed out of his mind by the fact that nothing went as planned and that luffy kept foiling everything -> we're supposed to believe this guy is completely ruthless when he's allowing luffy who's completely incapitated to recover so that he can get beat by him. we're supposed to believe that doffy took luffy's invade serious after seeing what happened with crocodile and when he actively started following luffy's battles doffy was in his room with a dozen of his executives basically doing nothing while he knew sugar was getting attacked and the only protection sugar had was trebol, it's like what the actual fuck what's the point of having a dozen strong executives when you are terrible to the point of utter incompetence at using them effeciently which is completely unbelievable considering how he was portrayed as "joker" the constant contradictions in people's values and the sheer incompetence of how the marines are displayed as - doffy killing his father and brother without mercy, being portrayed as this complete ruthless person -> luffy foiled literally everything, pissed doffy off so incredibly hard only for him to "get distracted" and go torture viola / rebecca to "lure out" a completely incapacitated luffy he could have just disposed off if he just hunted him down - seeing fujitora having this heartfelt moment of giving a speech of prioritise the people of dressrosa, do whatever you can to help them, they are the priority - > only for us to then later on see the following scene "the scene being there for sake of shock and for the sake of seeing people be in COMPLETE despair, building up doffy's ruthlessnes" the scene being the hospital scene where the personel is taking out the beds with sick people on them after the bird cage started accelerating, the personel pleading for help to the people who are passing by only to be completely ignored it's like HELLO??? there's gotta be some protocol on "what to do as the marines when a country goes to shit" and the fact that there was an ACTIVE admiral present wo just recently declared that his values were to prioritise the people at all cost only for the marines to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to tone down the chaos and guide / reassure the people to the best of their ability is straight up poor storytelling when a country goes to shit (people were manipulated into hurting other people) wouldn't the first thing the marines should do is make sure the hospital is supported and potentionally expanded, isn't the second thing the marines should do is to make sure that people injured and people who are in complete chaos get guided to said hospital / or any other field hospital while reassuring them to minimize panic i swear i was gonna keep this short but since i recently completely rewatched dressrosa everything is just very fresh in my memories and the final complaint is Doffy's powers man is there any reason why doflamingo can use and maintain the bird cage for an incredibly extended period of time, while using and maintaining a string clone of himself and while also fighting at full power against Law, Luffy and others again for a very extended period of time there seemed to be no effort / stamina used to maintain the bird cage and he doesn't seem to lose ANY focus / power for maintaining it all while fighting at his full power against others so why is thestring of the birdcage so incredibly indestructible, it's literally strings, you would think he ate another devil fruit that gave his string insane unbreakable durability WHY are the strings of said birdcage strong enough that even a combined effort of an entire country which includes an admiral, Multiple high level pirates and multiple haki experts can't even stop it let alone destroy it ALL while doflamingo is barely conscious after luffy hit him like what?? the more i think about it the more i feel like there are "objectively" better ways to tell this story so that the story doesn't undermine the set "values" of it's characters - establishing what the navy is doing so that it's believable when there is absolute panic / despair - when doffy is actually losing it by how pissed he is -> GIVE HIM THE MOMENT -> make him actively hunt an incapacitated luffy -> or atleast let him have a "law gets his arm cut" moment on someone who isn't important to the future story, make us believe that he's pissed beyond belief (i'd also personally would change "the birdcage", there is no great reason why string is strong enough to contain an entire country of elite fighters aside from the fact that IT HAD TO BE THAT STRONG to create urgency and the opportunity to unite the country in the story) - change some story pacing issues -> don't insult your audience by constantly recapping or showing the same things, also stick to "show, don't tell" i genuinely believe that if dressrosa did these 3 things that it would have been an incredible arc with an amazing villain if not one of the best villains But seriously i swear i was gonna keep this short but I didn't think i'd feel this strong about how this arc went, it just feels like a "setup" arc for the future war arc more than it feels like it's own consistent arc -> as in alot can be redeemed later on potentionally
The amount of people on Twitter who were disappointed about Kaido’s performance after he took on the samurai, the Worst Generation, Yamato and pre + post Gear 5 Luffy, while also holding up an entire island, was completely ridiculous
I read and watched it weekly and didn’t have major issues with the length of it. There was always something interesting going on in it. Yeah the anime had more issues like the constant Rebecca flashbacks but that was pretty minor for me.
2.5 years. made me drop the anime and shortly after the manga, too. I paused for like 7 years. Zero interest. Only catched up now, because I have time. Whole Cake and Wano Kuni are delivering af.
Thats the problem. Its a fantastic story, and it has GREAT content per chapter. But the anime ruins that. It's still enjoyable because the story is so good.
why are people complaining about the tournament characters being too many in numbers?? these are the characters that form the straw hat fleet! this is important stuff imo
I disagree for 3 reasons. 1. Quite a few gladiators didn't join the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, The Kelly Funk Brothers, Ascilla, Rolling Logan, Damask, Meadows, Mummy, Cactus Guy, and more I probably don't remember because there were so many. 2. Many of the gladiators were completely useless and had no presence, some were so bad that they literally had no shown personality or fighting style, like the aforementioned Meadows and Mummy. 3. At the time of writing this, The Straw Hat Grand Fleet itself has done absolutely nothing outside of cover stories, and a few chaperoning world nobles at the Reverie for like one chapter. Don't get me wrong, they probably will have importance in the future, and when they do, I'll reevaluate my opinion, but right now, The Straw Hat Grand Fleet seems like a completely useless addition to the story.
@@talkinghoorse6936 Would it make sense for every named gladiator to join afterwards? Makes the world feel big to have so many characters with actual names that aren't necessarily important.
@@talkinghoorse6936 of course some of the gladiators didn’t join the fleet. it would be unrealistic if everyone had. i feel as if this is a huge development for the straw hat crew and it’s important to show the influence they have on others. it shows that Luffy is still only focused on becoming pirate king and doesn’t want a fleet, yet also depicts the influence he has on other/ and how people want to follow him into battle and help him.
Just finished this video on a long drive. I watch all your channels man. You do such a good job. This video was TOP notch. You should definitely do more of these! I can only imagine the amount of work this took
Dressrosa honestly represents One Piece's biggest strength, as well as it's weakness, which is Oda's ambition. You can tell Oda was incredibly ambitious with regards to the vision for this arc. It had the best antagonist and it had alot of great reveals. However it was clear he bit off more than he could chew (which is unfortunately a problem that is common in the post-timeskip arcs) and covered alot of characters and events that people just didn't care about.
I remember when I first started reading One Piece, this arc was already finished, so when I got to it I was able to binge the whole thing in 2 days. It’s weird, because as a result it became my favourite arc in the series. I guess the issue really is the time it took to finish, over 2 1/2 years, which I admit is a bit extreme.
Ive started with desrossa and its like 10 minutes of Fujitora playing poker im just warming up i think knowing how bad one piece anime pacing is. Some of the episodes I almost fell asleep but thankfully is the beatuiful world building and bright colours that make it more intreging to watcj
@@ajmma499 Read it my guy, and all of the pacing issues will just disappear before your eyes. They artificially stretch out episodes so that they can stay at the same episode length as the issues of the manga (to an extent). I’m not one of those manga purists who thinks the anime is terrible and that the manga is the only way to consume the story, but if your biggest problem with the story is the pacing specifically, than the manga is exactly what you need.
This was a ride of a mega-review. It felt long at times, too many characters, and the structure was pretty similar to other past reviews, but overall was a great experience.
The problem with Dressrosa (manga wise) was that it didn't adhere well to weekly releases because of how complex it was. The anime made the problem worse with the worse pacing in the entire series happening during this arc. If you binge read it its pretty good and the One Pace cut of the anime is pretty good as well. It cuts down to 43 episodes I think.
52 to be precise, but many are >25 mins long, so that number is kind of misleading. It would probably be around 60-65 eps, but I'm also kind of making this up
It's funny because the experience I had was totally different. I bought and read all of One Piece until the beginning of Wano last summer and I found on Dressrosa my favourite arc. I guess the fact of being able to read it in less than a week is crucial, as I was able to fully enjoy it and remember almost all of the characters through the whole arc (not now, unfortunately)
@@DiePoente facts! Watching is same. I am reading ev few weeks and hv quit entirely watching so I can binge when Wano is done. I got to like Hyogoro and Luffy in prison and couldn't take it and quit watching so I can binge later.
One piece always was dragged out, I remember reading the manga after finishing the other big fish and I loved it but the flashbacks and pace was dragged out, by the time I reached the CP9 I could have finished bleach best arcs.
reading one piece weekly is completely different then reading it all together. The arcs are so big that its more so an experience. As opposed to just a story. You will have to go back an re-read major arcs. I have been reading weekly since thriller bark, and sometimes i just drop one piece till the full arc is out. Its a legitimate way to read it. However i would also say some arcs are absolutely amazing week to week. The assault on Onigashima, was very close to being peek weekly one piece, but I feel it has gotten a little rushed and chopped up, as Oda is already preping and organising for what is coming next. Which is a shame the Four emperors sagas climax being possibly not as epic as it could of been, but it does hype up the final saga Majorly.
No matter what anyone says, Dressrosa is my favorite One Piece arc. It has everything I like: touching moments, great humor, well built plot lines, fun characters and good fights. I love love love this arc.
I watched the One Pace version - it beats every arc after it in terms of Comedy, Memorable moments, charisma of new characters and World Building for a single Island. Kyros character and his arc were incredible... a guilt-ridden character finally being able to accept and embrace he desserves a good life.
@@nuca5104 For real. People sleep on Kyros because of the Rebecca Flashbacks taking up a lot of time in the original anime, but I think his arc is touching and amazingly written. Law’s flashback is one of the best in the series, the Don Quixote pirates are generally fun characters with cool designs, and the Straw Hats all were pretty cool during Dressrosa.
I think that Dressrosa resembling Alabasta in structure was a completely deliberate decision by Oda to emphasize the themes of the story. Seeing how Whole Cake Island mirrors Enies Lobby and Wano has some correlations to Thriller Bark, it entirely makes sense in retrospect (though, it’s easy to see why people were getting upset when Dressrosa’s structure turned out to be so similar to Alabasta, since there was no precedent at that point to confirm that it was an intentional narrative choice and not Oda getting lazy or some other schlock)
Well, Fishman Island was similar to Arlong Park and Punkhazard was similar to Little Garden and Drum. I thought that once we hit Dressrose it was obvious, but then I guess that was just me.
It's really interested to watch them back to back as well. I rewatched Dressrosa and then went back to rewatch Alabasta and the similarities but also differences are so interesting.
@@jezza_belle4867Breaking into a heavily guarded place in order for Luffy to save one of his friends who was forcibly taken and agreed to leave the crew
as a whole it is a good arc the main problem was its weekly construction with multiple breaks and how many plot threads it introduced just to resolve, the anime version amplifies every problem the weekly manga run had
"Ne, Doffy, someone's calling our kingdom a disaster, behehehe" Dear god I hope Trebol and comes into this discussion at some point and I hope he gets utterly blasted by everyone
Seeing this, I'm really happy that I started OP near the end of Wano and only caught up right at the end of Wano. Didn't have to go through the weekly grind.
its because the vocal minority usually are youtubers that have a platform to complain about miniscule shit, made the arc seem worse than it is. Same with Fishman Island, a lot of these arcs are crucial to the plot yet their opinions make them seem like they are these great writers when in reality they are just sweaty weebs that have little to no brain capacity to understand such a huge story.
As someone who caught up in Zou, I have never understood the hate that dressrossa gets. I can see the few parts where it dragged but it tied together perfectly in the end. Rebecca was the only weak link in the arc for me.
Luffy fights Bellamy for 13 episodes while Law is bleeding out on the roof. In the manga Luffy fights Bellamy for 1 and a half chapters. I don't know why they decided to pad/reuse animation of Bellamy springing around for 13 episodes but it was completely nuts.
@@Buccii yeah One Piece and Conan are probably the last dying embers of the infinite weekly release formula. Like seasonal anime is more profitable by this point. But those two series are relics from before DVDs were a thing. You can see the deathknell of infinite series where World Trigger season 1 has 73 episodes and season 2 has 12 switching format. Even Dragonball the og infinite series switched it's game up. Toei doesn't know what to do with Future releases of the IP. Boruto might have actualy killed the business model. So thank you Boruto.
The funny thing is after he got done fighting Bellamy he just left belly me there and I don't know how Bellamy didn't die from blood loss or collateral damageXD
One thing I always found super annoying about this arc was how durable the bird cage was. Like, a clone made of string was able to be cut in half by Kyros, however none of the individual pieces of string of the birdcage were able to be cut by Zoro, who just got done cutting several hundred square meters of stone apart, or a goddamn Marine admiral. I don’t think there was ever an explanation for why it was so unbreakable, it just was.
I just assumed the strings were imbued by insanely durable, godlike Haki tbh. Idek if that's a good justification for it with how even an admiral cannot stop the cage.
I liked sabo reveal, doffy flashback & gear 4th reveal. Still remember when luffy first announced it and then the chapter ended.. I was freaking out. I remember it so clearly cuz it was a week before my birthday and weirdly enough I was doing my practical test, so I was always thinking about "gears"
Aside from those 10 or so chapters during the finale with the birdcage, I can honestly say that Dressrosa is peak One Piece along with water7, alabasta, Ennies Lobby, marinefors, sabaody. Honestly such an amazing arc, especially if you binge read it ! If you watched Dressrosa, I highly recommend reading it. And if you read it weekly during the time it was airing, I still recommend you RE read it. Completely different experience !
But what was truly more ambitious: the Dressrosa arc in the manga, the Dressrosa arc in the anime or the Dressrosa Disaster Documentary on the GLR channel...
Till now I had no idea people disliked punk hazard. I thought it was very enjoyable. Cool setting, interesting characters and the typical smooth resolve if what is happening here. But most of all, I liked the interaction between the crew. I thought it was very comical how all the souls got switched. But I mostly enjoyed seeing all the strengths of the characters come into action. Seeing everyone showing there respective strengths. Dressrosa was too long, but in the manga it was not nearly as bad as the anime. I can’t watch the anime anymore because it just drags every single interaction..
5 min zooming into building and the background 5 min for the opening +the recap 3 minutes for the ending leaving you with a mere 11min of new actually interesting content well... The manga was also tiring to read honestly at that moment a lot of people stopped one piece or took a long break
@@hfon3317 as usual you manga readers overreacting Here's a little trick to shut them up, ask them when, tell me when once has the opening been 5 minutes long
I feel I missed the Dressrosa fatigue by waiting for Dressrosa to finish before I watched the anime. I honestly enjoyed it even though there were a few pitfalls but they weren't so deep that it ruined my experience. Fujitora is a great character and personally my favorite of the new characters that appeared in this arc.
Maybe I’m just a weeaboo who loves reading the One Piece wikia, but I enjoyed the arc weekly and liked seeing all these new characters, especially the Colosseum warriors
As of the start of the Foxy arc, if you're watching the regular anime and not one of the fan cuts that removes a lot of the filler, unnecessary flashbacks and reactions shots and other non-manga aspects, you're watching it wrong.
I have been weekly since 03. More people hated Thriller Bark on a weekly basis than Dressrosa. This entire documentary can be summed up by weekly fatigue of new readers being weekly for the first time
Same here it’s my number 1 arc in the series. I binged the manga. I guess other’s problems were with watching the anime or reading weekly. I think it’s an absolute masterpiece of an arc. I debated with somebody about dressrosa a while ago and they said the arc sucked because the strawhats didn’t get a lot of shine lol
I loved how Liam focused on both positives and negatives of the anime and the manga. Especially since we know how he feels about it. You can tell this was a very unbiased perspective of Dressrosa and Liam handled this controversial conversation so well by hitting every good and bad aspect of the arc, and even ending it on a high note.
Seems like all the dressrosa hate comes from the weekly read manga wise. Everything else is literally just nitpicking because a lot of that stuff can be said about Wano. I started and finished one piece last year so I didn’t read dressrosa weekly or even knew about the disdain for it I finished the arc in like 2 weeks. Dressrosa is my number 1 arc in the story followed by marineford 🤷🏾♂️
I think it's because almost the whole event of Dressrosa takes place in one day, so there's never really tike for anyone to catch their breath, another being that unlike Wano, almost every character was introduced at the same time, Wano giving time for each new person, and like I said earlier, Dressrosa takes place in one day whilst Wano takes place in months from what we've seen
I personally quite liked the massive cast and scale of dressrosa when i was reading it, but i can understand how hellish reading and watching it weekly must've been.
Dresrosa was my favorite arc and i love all of the characters. That's a big part of why I am a fan of Oda. I love his creativity on all the characters. The arc was sad and sick in a way which made it more rewarding when the crew came out on top. I love the whole arc and Rebecca story. There's nothing controversial about it in my opinion
I'm still annoyed by the Rebecca hate. like she was a character built to be a support character. not just a prop, but a character trying her best and getting help when need be. Her father literally taught her not to kill or shed blood so how do you give a character with that style of fighting a win in a arc where villains are killers? not to mention Rebecca is bombarded by emotions throughout the whole arc. mix of rage, abuse, struggle and, yes, Sadness. she is a character forced into a world that wants her dead for the scheme of the Doflamingo Family and their manipulation of the kingdom of Dressrosa. Rebecca is literally going into a ring, where the whole island hates her guys for her families "sins" and is nearly killed every day by it! doesn't help that when Sugar's powers are deactivated, all those memories flooding back would make anyone react, even Violet was in tears! and to end this argument: the reason she is wearing such thin, clearly unprotective armor, is because Doffy and his family want her to die! think about it: what in the Hell would she wear such armor in the first place?! oh~ i don't know~ MAYBE BECAUSE SHE IS FORCED TO WEAR IT!!! i mean, come on guys! they even show that there is a weight limit in the Colosseum. Luffy really wanted to go all out in Gladiator armor but was told to pretty much only wear a cap and helmet! and most of the men and woman are just as limited as he was as well as Rebecca! Hell, Acilia, the other female gladiator fighting in Rebecca's Block was just as revealing. oh~ but i guess she's not as attractive~ huh~? or just not as "annoying" as Rebecca. seriously, i just don't get the hate for her! it's gotten worse as time has gone by and I'm sick of it! it's like the growing hate for Carrot for no reason. it needs to stop.
Yea I don’t hate Rebecca and everything you said is valid so I don’t understand why those point are brought up on the Rebecca problem. My issue with her is just lots of other one piece female characters (supporting or main) are just written far better (she is written better than some other manga female characters just not One piece and it was glaring). Even amongst the Dressrosa princesses I think she is the worst written mainly because she could have had more agency or plot relevance. However, she was just the emotional linchpin which if the arc was written more concisely could have been delegated to other characters. for example viola could have been Kyros’ daughter and just recently got caught as a spy by the doflamingo family hence why she is in the colosseum. Her backstory can then include how she learn to fight from the toy soldier, how she infiltrated the doflamingo family, what her job was (include her dancing here) and how she got caught. Her role in the story can then continue the way it plays out. Sanji’s and Robin’s plot will have to change a bit but their bit on the island was lackluster anyway. I don’t mean to display I have anywhere near the level of skill as Oda but merging the two princesses, IMO, would have created one good character rather than 2 relatively meh ones.
Id say that Rebecca was used to build the character of Kyros. He was a much better character who risked more for the country, while rebecca did virtually nothing just to live with her father.
@@dukesnduka3757 but we see characters like Otama and Law with much more harsh backgrounds acting much more selflessly than someone like Rebecca. Even Vivi, who had lost way less, had tried her best to get her kingdom back by putting her life on the line. Law is probably the character with the saddest backstory, and even he went out of his way to survive and make sure that the legacy of Rosinate remained aloft by defeating doflamingo.
Goes to show how high a bar Oda sets with his settings. Dressrosa is an incredibly stylish and fleshed-out location and yet it's mediocre at best compared to others in the series.
Having cool things shove into a island doesn't make that island better. We know much about Naruto's village history, different clans and political conflict than dressrosa.
I honestly loved this arc. I think that all the characters plots and stories introduced here were absolutely magical. The introduction of Gearfour was completely mind-boggling and the buildup to the defeat of doflamingo was truly worth the wait. I think punk hazard was a disaster arc. I hated every moment of that arc except for some comedy
I just read the Dressrosa arc in a week. In my opinion, best arc of the series so far. It took everything and turned it up to 11. I loved all of the new characters, the world building, the stakes of the world. Too many perfect scenes to put into one comment.
I definitely agree with the manga dressrosa being one of if not the best arc of one piece. The anime pacing was definitely annoying though especially if you watched it weekly
Idk man, you give me a guy who: - Doesn't see a "no pissing in the fish water" sign and acts accordingly - Trolls the audience with a fake bomb - Camps on the side of the storm circle the whole game then gets the chicken dinner with just one kill Imma pick that guy, that guy got the right idea.
The Dressrosa Arc was good. It was better than fishman island & punk hazard imo. Granted it wasn't perfect but I loved it! Especially the moment between luffy and sabo
This was truly an amazing video, I really loved how you included the grand line fleet members and especially the way it was edited! I really hope you do another one of these in the future
I'm so excited to hear the toy soldier "song" 57 times, any time that Rebecca or Kyros is on screen it needs to play because if it isn't then you really can't call this dressrosa
Rebecca is cooler than people say. She's a strong willed survivor whose compassion and pacifistic lead her to developing a nonlethal fighting style. Her costume never bothered me as Red Sonja is an iconic character I grew up with and I loved Oda's homage to this legendary badass female warrior. The only disappointment I have regarding the character is that she was not fighting alongside her father while he was facing off against the man who killed her mother. I really wish that Diamante had brought just one or two flunkies with him so that Robin and Rebecca could have something to do if Kyros was going to face-off against Diamante alone. Maybe Diamante could have tucked a couple of folded up henchmen up his sleeves and released them just as the fight got started. Rebecca really was denied an opportunity to prove herself in the narrative and I find that to be a shame. But aside from that one blemish, I really love the character, her story & everything else -- I'm even 100% behind her shipping with Koby. I give Rebecca a B+ rating and I look forward to seeing her again in the future. (Hopefully as the Swordsman of The Princess Pirates captained by Renegade-Princess Vivi)
The only people who dislike Dressrosa are literal manchildren that want One Piece to be like a Saturday Morning cartoon where they visit colorful sky castles and dinosaur islands until they finally find buried treasure. Yes, those arcs already exist we don't need MORE of the same it's unbearable that so many fans want every arc to be like the East Blue or Fishman island arc. One Piece is already very formulaic in its storytelling it doesn't need to be even more generic to appease the lowest common denominator of audience members.
When I rate Dressrosa I split it in two: Pre Crew Split and Post Crew Split. Pre Crew Split Dressrosa was one of the most hype arcs ever. From simply discovering Dressrosa, to learning about the Mera Mera Fruit, being introduced to a new admiral, learning about Doffy's connection to the Celestial Dragons, revelation of the Tontata Tribe (and statue of Noland etc), Law getting defeated right in front of Luffy&Co to Big Mom showing up. It was absolutely *crazy.* Definitely one of the craziest parts of the entire story. And I feel like everyone who talks about reading Dressrosa week to week forgets about that and only remembers Post Crew Split Dressrosa
Why is too many characters a bad thing like we’re reading a long as story about a pirate traveling the world meeting people on his journey you just remember the important one and forget the others there really can never be too many charecters
Too many at once, or rather too many characters in focus. It makes it so either some characters don't get the time they need to be fleshed out or the pacing gets really bad to accommodate them all.
I don’t know, I really liked that about this arc. Sure, the chapter they’re ALL introduced, I’m thinking “alright, most of them will be fodder, but Oda is introducing them surely because at least SOME will be important”. Turns out I was right, and I liked how it played out. Obviously the creation of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet is extremely important, and I loved it.
the Rebecca "Armor" joke made this GrandLineReview Arc worth the length Sanji was a Princess prop even after dodging the 'inhabitants' of Mormorio Island
I read the manga and this was the same for me. It took me over a month to get through Fishman Island and Punk Hazard, and I planned to just charge in and read Dressrosa over the course of a week. I was basically forcing myself to read for a little bit, and then I ended up getting super invested and read the entire arc in three days. Its much more enjoyable when you can read it in one sitting
Multiple. Trebol, Diamante, and Gladius (who should have been neck snapped on the fall...or just from the fall)... She kinda bodied Hakuba as well. Countered three and beat another. Sadly, could have had one not be interrupted.
The worst part is that she could've had an interesting fight against Trebol, he's slimy and sticky to the touch, meaning she would have to come up with a different strategy than her usual neck snaps.
@@talkinghoorse6936 Agreed. First phase would have been finding out he was a Paramecia with a real body and a contest of strength. Then once she realizes he is a Paramecia, on how to target the body. Fight progresses to a standstill. As he gloats she can't clutch him, she ignights the explosive snot-gel. Severely burning her hands, and thus takes her out of fighting. Makes her scene holding the cage more epic too. Doing so on crispy hands.
As someone who does not watch one piece weekly, for me dressrosa introduced the materialization of one piece fans in Bartolomeo and forever grabbed a spot as a truly great arc
Reading this arc on a week to week basis was an ordeal. I remember my heart sunk when the air went out of Luffy and said he needed 10 minutes to recover...
Just read it for the first time and it was rough...I can't imagine the pain of going through that pacing for 2 whole years... Thank you for validating so much of what felt wrong and shining a light on what was right about that arc.
I hated Rebecca’s design to the point I had to lie to myself saying, “She’s dressed like that because she’s a gladiator and that’s the best she’s supplied with.” Knowing damn well that other characters had superior armor, just to tolerate it without pausing every five seconds to rant
The only consistent thing I've found about opinions on this arc is that week to week readers don't care for it as much but those who were able to binge the whole arc seem to hold it in higher regard.
That makes sense. One of the main complaints was that it was taking way too long to do anything coupled with a gigantic cast and flashbacks makes weekly readers get bored. But if your binging it there’s no wait. Years of manga and anime you can finish in a week. Your less likely to forget anything or feel it as stretched out.
Honestly I was able to binge watch the arc and I still don’t particularly like it. That might be because I was anime only at the time and the anime adaptation of the arc wasn’t the best. In my eyes it’s still frustratingly long, even though I was able to finish it in a few days
I know I sat through Dressrosa weekly in the manga and anime, and I can't really remember how I felt at the time. I guess it's one of those situations where your brain just cuts out that unpleasant memory out of your mind and forgets it immediately.
Dressrosa was actually the first arc I read weekly, and it was...an interesting experience. I do agree that it's definitely a better story when binged than when read weekly, but it's honestly in my top 5 arcs in the series. At the very bottom of my top 5, but 5th place out of 31 (I think?) isn't bad.
@Tenyasha That's actually not a question I'd considered too much. Obviously I'm coming at this as someone who has only had the weekly reading experience with Dressrosa, Zou, Whole Cake Island, Reverie, and Wano. Whole Cake Island I also enjoyed more when I reread it after it was completed, but honestly, with Reverie, the Wano intermissions, and now Wano act 3, I've been really enjoying having the time to let the new big information stew for a while and watching the community theorize and speculate each week as we wait for the chapters. So I guess from my perspective, I prefer binging the slower-paced sections but I prefer reading the big info-dumps week-by-week. I guess that might just be a case of me subconsciously adjusting the pacing to fit my own taste.
I go through phases of reading One Piece weekly and then just letting it slide for some years, and I guess I was lucky to come back and read Dressrosa all at once, instead of weekly. I remember really loving it! Maybe I'll go reread it soon.
Yeah Dressrosa is super amazing, i do not get what thise people are on. I do rember being a bit iffy having to wait week to week for some stones being pushed around lol but hate it? lol no, no no no! i fucking loved it!
I watched one piece and didnt start reading the manga until I caught up to the anime at about whole cake island. So for me dressrosa was amazing, while the characters names may not all stick in mind I can instantly recognize all of them and the role they played. I liked the fights, themes, and even the backstories. Honestly is probably my favorite arc. That being said I can understand how for people reading or watching weekly that it would be hard to get through and slow, but I would say just rewatch or reread it and you'll appreciate it a lot more.
When looked at as a whole, this arc is a masterpiece, but reading/watching it can be a pain cause of the length. If the anime adapted this arc with as little filler as possible and wano animation, this could be one of the best arcs in anime history.
Honestly pacing was always the bigger problem in the anime’s adaptation of the arc for me and even to this day even with it fully released it still is oddly enough and this is gonna sound bizarre to say but recently I started re-watching Dressrosa in the dub and it’s actually kinda saving the arc for me and it doesn’t even have anything to do about whether the dub is good or bad but rather it generally just feels like a more relaxing experience whereas watching in the sub even now feels like a chore I guess to put it another way with the dub it doesn’t feel like I’m checking my watch every 5 minutes wondering when an episode is gonna end
@@slyfox2488 I have already done they but the dub is oddly another interesting alternative I’ve found that makes watching through the normal length of the arc more tolerable To put it another way love it it hate it the dub is one of the few things that saves the experience of watching it regularly from feeling like a complete slog
@@slyfox2488 it’s definitely the best version and way to watch it but again if your forced to watch it officially then the dub is the only way I can recommend it anymore cause even if your not a fan of the dub it strangely just makes the experience easier and kinda tempers how much of a slog it was and still kinda is honestly I’m not even kidding I tried watching Dressrosa on Crunchyroll and it was still a struggle to get through one episode but with the dub I was able to get through several episodes in a sitting without checking my watch
TBH : I personally loved Dresserosa and it's still one of my favourite arcs mainly because of Doflamingo. And sometimes I just ReRead it just for fun , I guess it would have been pretty disastrous to read it weakly but yeah ,I loved Dresserosa very much.
I'm a newer subscriber but I have watched a lot of your older videos before clicking this one and I have to say excellent job 🔥🔥🔥 this video was awesome!
