The Drinker Recommends... The Boys 

The main lesson from The Boys is that we need more Karl Urban.

I don't usually binge shows, but I blew through The Boys faster than A-train blew through what's her face.

Billy Butcher is basically the superhero version of the critical Drinker

I really love when Homelander pointed out how impossible it would be to lift a plane in mid fucking air.

The guy who played Home Lander was incredible. He could go from cool guy to psychopath to emotionally stunted manchild like it was nothing.

"You guys are the real heroes" my favorite homelander line whenever he talks to police or military. You can see how pretentious he is

The fact that badass Black Noir was taken out by a peanut allergy was pretty original and practical

"Imagine a world where superheroes are real" . . . . (Cuts to a picture of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel) "Then imagine they're all total a**holes." Spot on, Mr. Drinker, spot on. 😂😂😂😂

But the real question is...can A-Train teach the little kid how to outrun cancer?

The guy who played homelander... holy shit what a great job.

I think the thing that makes Starr's performance as Homelander so perfect is that he's never actually playing the good guy. He's playing the psychopath playing the good guy. The clip at 7:46 is a perfect example. If you had never seen the show and saw the way he smiles there, you'd still be able to tell that he's faking it. The multiple layers come through in his performance, so even nice Homelander is terrifying.

When I saw a picture of a guy using a baby's eye beams as a weapon I went and got Prime.

Using the baby to kill those suits with its laser eyes was one of the best things I've ever seen in a movie. Absolutely hilarious! Karl Urban is so freaking good in everything he's in.

The Drinker: "Maybe I shouldn't spoil 90% of the show's plot points? Nah, it'll be foyne."

"Even Dredd didn't ask much of him." Incorrect. Urban himself said it was one of the most demanding roles he's ever taken from a physical and acting point of view. Did most of all his own stunts. Every shot of Dredd on the back of the Lawmaster was all him. Alex Garland said that Urban actively edited the script as he went along because he understood more than most what the character was supposed to be; redacting lines of dialogue because he knew Dredd said less. His mannerisms, body language, speech pattern and tone were all spot on, and for Urban's own admittance, was very challenging given that he had to cover his eyes for the entire thing, and for an actor to do that and still convey a sense of character is hard to do. He was amazing in that role.

I have over 2000 horror movies in my collection. None of them have terrified me as much as Homelander. Bravo.

I loved how many people complemented Carl Urban on his accent throughout season one, it was an ongoing joke.

I about died laughing when The Deep tried saving the lobster, too.

Incredible series. The plane sequence is some of the most haunting shit I've seen all year.

Homelander preaching to the churchies and then hovering out over the crowd thinking he's a literal god gets me every time.

Just started Season 3 ...holy shit ...not for the weak stomach ...this show just keeps getting better and better. ..in Season 2 and 3 you can really appreciate the brilliance in Homelanders and Butcher's acting.

The actor who played butcher is on a captain price level of badass in this show.

Karl Urban is a fucking legend to me, his Dredd movie (I highly recommend it) is among the very best sci-fi dystopian future action movie ever made... in this series he's by far my favorite character.

I finally took your advice to check the show out. I was not disappointed. I even lucked out to have finished the show a week before season two drops. Here's to hoping they hold it together!

The Deep/Starlight incident was played rather well I think. Great parallel to the real world. You have the asshole abusing his position of power, which puts him on your shit list right away. You later see Starlight coming under fire in comment sections, which shows how false accusations will erode the trust people have in such accusations in general, and especially from privileged people, and how this erosion ends up hurting actual victims. But you also see the Deep being thrown under the bus because he's bad publicity. Even though he was, in fact, guilty, they made no effort investigating it and definitely didn't care either way. And seeing how he is basically a big joke, who's brought on the Seven through affirmative action of sorts, never really respected by the higher-ups, and ultimately thrown away to have a shit life, you even end up feeling bad for him despite his acts early in the show.

The real unspoken villain in this series is Becca. Without lifting a finger she drove Butcher to the brink and blinding madness.

This show is just freaking brilliant. It was addicting. I can't wait until season 2.

The Boys is a masterpiece, a lot of comments here describe my own experience perfectly. I almost never find shows that are good enough binge watch, but this was the rare exception. Superb acting, great writing, and just incredibly fun and interesting is this series.

Awesome show. Always watch whatever Karl Urban is in.

You know Drinker loves a show when he cares enough with to call the actors by their real names, and not by their character's names or Even by their " popular" names, like when he was calling Dark Phoenix Sansa. That was hilarious.

Drinker I took your advice and sat down to watch the first episode. There are so many series on Amazon, Netflix, HULU and HBO that I have started and never made it past the second episode, some not even the first. So about four o’clock Saturday afternoon I got my beverage of choice and sat down to watch, thinking at an hour per each I had an hour to spare before doing my honey dos. Well eleven hours later (I had to break for food and a run to the package store) it’s the middle of the night and I finally finished all eight. I haven’t binge watched anything like that since I started GoT one week before the fifth season started. Your review gets ten stars for giving me the push to watch even though I didn’t expect it to be so good that I’d piss off a whole Saturday. 👍👍 two thumbs up!!

Best superhero stuff you can watch. Period. The homelander actor is amazing!

Antony Star is mindblowingly fantastic, Homelander a man you love to hate. What a superb series the boys is, we Star Wars fans can only dream of the day.

I dont think Urban was wasted in Dredd, he seemed to get the character down fairly well and was extremely entertaining to watch. I would have loved to see a sequel.

I was bombarded by a ton of commercials about this and always thought Karl Urban was a better actor than some of his movies led me to believe. My jaw dropped 15 minutes into the 1st episode. This show is brilliant.

Really struggling to choose a favorite, but the deep definetely got the most laughs out of me. He is patheticness personified in just the best way.

Billy Butcher is what happens when Dirty Harry hits the 2020's. Now that I've watched it, I am surprised this stuff can still be made. I loved Starr in Banshee, but here he and Urban are just fuckin killing it. Thanks for the recommendation.

Karl Urban is a guarantee. Whether in "the boys" or "Dredd" he always delivers. I loved him in both. I honestly believe his Dredd is the ultimate comic book portrayal. He put a lot of effort into looking the part, he moves, talks and even feels like Dredd. Ps anybody who liked the series should give the comic book a shot, it's glorious. Dark, beyond f*cked up, but glorious

Karl Urban is (always) great but holy shit did Antony Starr flat out murder the role of Homelander. Much like me seeing Dan Stevens in "The Guest" I have completely become a fan of Starr and hope he goes places.

This show is amazing. Homelander has to be one of the best villains/heroes I have seen in a long time. The character is fascinating. This guy is scarier than the Joker.

I'm late to the party and have only watched the first three episodes. If you want to have a diverse cast and have strong female heroes, then this is the way to do it: interesting characters and great writing.
