Great composition, sensitive and soulful performance, attentive audience, nice camera work, vintage black and white footage. Doesn't get much better, really.
Our country hasn't produced many true jazz pianists...Brian Lemon, Colin Purbrook, George Shearing, Jamie Cullum and Keith Tippet.....but Dudley was probably one of our best.......it was so hard to get recordings or LPs back in 1970 - 1975 when I knew he was so good but never had the coverage he truly deserved. Dudley was a genius of music and humour. Massive loss to entertainment. RIP sir.
He won a music scholarship to Magdalen College, Oxford, to study the organ. At university, he also studied composition and became a classically trained pianist, though his forte on the piano for public performance was jazz. :)
I loved this score from when I first heard it in '67.This theme tune has an elegant sadness that is haunting and underpins the failure of his character Stanley Moon to find love.
What a talented man he was. The tips of his fingers had butterflies on them. He gave so much enjoyment to people. Then to suffer and die like he did. When I watched his last interview - it hurt my heart. Made me so sad.
Just getting wind of this song ,and i must say i have listened to all day ,since 10 am it's now 8.59pm . Absolutely incredible bit of artistry. I knew Dudley could play a bit ,but this floored me. What a talented bloke!
I am a DJ and a soundtrack vinyl collector .... and I always say, this is possible the best soundtracks of the 1960s... and a funny thing is... the film was made at St John's Wood studio... and I went to school next door to it... I do so love this movie...
