In this video:
It was a beautiful spring day on the banks of the Potomac River in 1826 when Secretary of State Henry Clay and Senator John Randolph of Roanoke counted paces, cocked their guns and prepared to fire at one another. The two notable American politicians were engaged in an illegal duel that, by nearly all accounts, should have never happened. Shots rang out, but the duel ended with neither harmed. Thus, it earned the moniker “The Duel That Wasn’t.” Here’s how this odd moment in American history came to pass.

I love this little limerick!
@The214thRabidFangirl
@The214thRabidFangirl 5 лет назад
@@xxXthekevXxx this isn't a limerick. Limericks have a rhyme scheme of aabba with the a lines being longer than the b lines. This poem as written has a rhyme scheme of aabbcc, and doesn't really have a variation in line length. I maybe am being a little pedantic right now, but a limerick isn't just a short and humerus poem which is how you seem to be defining it. It is a poem structure that is normally written about bawdy things. Anyway sorry if this comes off as rude or anything, it's just one of the few things about poetry that makes sense to me.

@@roosterball69 Yes, it is an interesting story and it'd be cool to see more about English Indology as it relates to this too. And at the very least the genuine nature of yoga deserves more exposure as it's a pretty sad state of affairs that people in the West consume a theologically and philosophically sterilized, homogenized, and cheap consumerist version of something quite grand.

Interesting. Another interesting almost duel is young Abraham Lincoln's duel with James Shields. After some biting personal criticism of Shields by Lincoln and his supporters, perhaps including suggestion of his inadequacy with women, Shields, a short man, challenged the very tall Lincoln to a duel. The rising Lincoln was faced with quite a dilemma - lose and well..., but even if he won dueling was illegal and a criminal conviction could hamper his future political career. A creative solution was in order. Tradition gave Lincoln, as the one being challenged, the right to set the conditions of the duel and he chose broadswords in a pit. The duelists would be confined to a pit, not allowed to cross the center line and be provided with broadswords. This highly favored the very tall Lincoln and led to an honorable settlement prior to any blood being shed.
