Tell that to Meryl Streep - she's not in Titanic blockbusters, but she has a loyal audience that will turn out pretty lucratively. In fact, there were articles debating why Meryl Streep alone can bring in an audience while younger actresses can't seem to guarantee box office or need to be in ensembles. There's also very few if any young male actors who can carry a picture, either. Even Tom Cruise can't bring 'em in like he used to.
I just finished watching it. Lovely, heart-warming film. I wish we had more films like this gem... To anyone reading this: don't give it a second thought, go watch it, I believe you'll like it. I wish you all a nice day! ♥️😁🇵🇭 04.19.2021
Looks fun and emotional at the same time. Seems like a great movie to watch. And of course, the casting is just on point, Jim Broadbent, Helen Mirren, Fionn Whitehead, Matthew Goode...
Movies are always better at the movies. You gotta go tothe first matinee of the day. There's like 3 or 4 other people there. It's like a private screening and no munchers and whisperers and chatterers. No coughs and shuffles. Just you and the dark and that giant screen.
Movie trivia: The painting of the Duke was stolen a few months before they began filming “Dr. No”, the first James Bond film. In the film, the stolen painting is prominently displayed in Dr. No’s residence when he first meets Bond.
Could it be that a real movie of inspiration is actually going to be made available despite the ruling, frivolous cinematic drivel that abounds? Miracles shall never cease! Looking forward to this!
This Wonderful Movie Of A True Story Is Not For Everyone, But For Fans Of Helen Mirren, Whose Portrayal Of An English ‘Housewife’ In The 60’s Is Just As Powerful As Her Portrayal Of A Queen, Will LOVE It, & Jim Broadbent As Her Activist Husband Is BRILLIANT AS He Uses His Situation To BringOut The Best Of The British People With Quirky Good Humor & Overall With Many Moments That Americans Will Find Mirrors The State Of Our Own Government . . . Or Is It Because They Are Indeed The Same❓ E&J
When I saw the title and Helen Mirren, first thought was this film might be about the recently passed Duke of Edinburgh. While that might be a good film to make with Helen reprising her role as Queen Elizabeth, this looks like a fun one!
This is the differecne betwen the UK and the USA, great story, great actors and a brilliant script. Whereas in the US it is Marval film after Marval film, where special effects and steriod fueled bodies with tight clothing. Instead of great acting lets have an explosion, instead of a plot lets have a car crash.
@Tycondaroga100 - exactly, like The Children Act with Emma Thompson & Stanley Tucci - another brilliant British movie but sadly completely overshadowed by the DC & Marvel superhero glut that ruled cinemas for the last few years (pre-COVID). I do like the MCU, I just wish the studio had spaced out the releases a little more……..
Finally! Something worth watching. No need to keep scrolling endlessly, watching what looks like it might be good and being, thusly, disappointed. No need to waste time. This looks lovely.
This reminds me of an apocryphal tale I heard regarding the American legal system in the 19th century. A popular farmer was charged with not returning a cow from a miserly and cruel landlord that no one liked. A trial was held and a jury of the man's peers came back with the following verdict: "Not guilty if he returns the cow." Hearing this verdict, the judge was enraged! This wasn't a proper verdict. He admonished the jurors and ordered them back to their chambers to deliberate and come to a proper verdict. They came back 5 minutes later with a new verdict: "Not guilty and he can keep the cow."
The secret of s good movie is have a good story to tell tell it well make your audience feel for the characters with the best leading actors .and have a satisfying ending. British films usually place more importance on a good story and script of believable dialogue ..
I just see it in a French Movie Festival. What a surprise! All the casting is great and James Broadbent is so Funny and touching. Well done for this movie dear Neighbours.
