I’m sad to say as a Houstonian that this the kind of thing that makes me embarrassed. You’re supposed to represent your bowl and the city in a positive light and unfortunately, that wasn’t done. Thankfully, there’s still a bowl game under a different name.

This is yet another example of how not to run a bowl. Bashing a program's fanbase for no good reason is how you burn bridges and compel someone to decline an invite. I see why this bowl went belly up.

Have you ever looked into the 2005 Alamo Bowl (Michigan vs Nebraska) final play of the game? I feel like that should be a video (if you search the clip, you’ll know why).

I don’t know what’s more surprising: the fact that Michigan got as close to scoring as they did or that the game actually ended on that play

@@deester7914 if you watch the part once Hart picks up the ball, half the field is completely occupied by Nebraska’s bench - I was just surprised there was no flag thrown (even if they would end up offsetting), but the play counted in the official stats.

The proper way was to encourage SM fans - "Come to Houston! You don't know what you're missing!" Sell the city, the bright lights, the sights, whatever. Make the town appealing enough to want to go that far.

This is why before someone official speaks on behalf of any organization that person needs to be briefed on the facts. OK State: first time since 1997 that they were in a bowl and 1988 before that. Large fan base. Likely large traveling base. Some could be local. Should sell a lot. Southern Miss: Have been in Bowls 4 years in a row after a hiccup last year. Smaller school. May not have a local base. Probably will sell decent, but cannot compare to OK State. Actual numbers are on par with other Conference schools... we are happy with both schools.

A teams excitement about playing is way different they fans excitement. You can't expect fans to buy super amounts of tickets if they don't travel that well are a mid conference team, not a power 5.

I was here!! My dad took me to this game when I was 16. Man what a great season, Fields went on to win a world series with the white Sox, the woods brothers did awesome in Canada, and Tatum bell had a super bowl ring w the broncos i believe. As for the Houston bowl, it was my first time in a private box and man there was so much good food. Houston is a crappy town tho. Go Cowboys!
