In Michael's first qualifying at SPA, he was outpacing Andrea De Cesaris outright. The team went to Andrea saying Michael was flat at the Eau Rouge and was asking Andrea to do the same to find more pace. Andrea declined saying he was experiencing vibrations at the front and had to back off the throttle. So the team went back to Michael and asked if this was true. Michael said, "yes, but if you keep it flat, the front end downforce kicks in and stabilizes the front". Legendary stuff.
@@c.j.bakker5653 i think that nickname rdspam tells it all. Basic troll or younsters dont remember how different Eau Rouge was in the 90:s specially early 90:s
RU-vid recommended this to me, good call. Great video, i have subscribed. A couple of mistakes in there: The picture used for Gary Anderson was not him. The picture twice used for De Cesaris was actually Alex Zanardi (who was one of the drivers in Gachot’s seat after Shumacher, along with Moreno, the guy Schumacher replaced at Benetton) Keke was Champion in 82, not 81 Mispronounced Patrese
It's NOT illegal to defend yourself in the UK. Stupid comment based on complete ignorance. The Right To Self-Defence in Britain is enshrined in Common Law- which dates back to medieval times. Go and do some research before embarrassing yourself publicly making foolish, inaccurate comments.
mate ur 75% of the reason why i can even talk to my friends about f1. keep up the great content! been subbed for a few months now, and i dont regret it one bit!
Gachot got physically attacked by the taxi driver, so that's a GBH straight away. Spraying CS gas was the only way to prevent the taxi driver from fulfilling his threat which was already well on its way to become a reality. The problem is that the namby-pamby UK law says that you cannot defend yourself - CS gas being 'Section 5' - wholly prohibited unless you have special dispensation. I'm sure EJ could have talked it all down before it got serious. Please remember that it may not be the police who was the problem here, but the Crime Prosecution Service who want their figures at the end of the year. They are the REAL fuckers.
Thing is, having a can of CS gas on you is proof of premeditation. Had he been attacked and just grabbed something to defend himself he'd have been fine. But he chose to carry a banned weapon long before he knew anyone would attack him.
CS gas is a prohibited weapon, Section 5 of the Firearms Act, in the UK. He’s committed a serious offence, even if it doesn’t seem like it. The sentence acts as a deterrent against anyone else carrying / using CS without lawful permission.
The problem was that he was driving his girlfriend/wife car. She is French & at the time using CS gas in France was perfectly legal. They used to sell it in French shops & petrol stations.
It's tear gas...big whoops. Neutered Europeans with no weapons wondering why sword attacks, acid attacks, and knife attacks are all on the upswing, with their new found friends from Islamic countries.
@@Embur12 well the laws are mainly enforced on the decendants of Europeans it would be such a shame if we could defend ourselves,,, it is the kalergi plan
@@Embur12 that's a bigger question to income inequality and poverty rates leading people down paths leading to crime. No one would steal a car if they could already afford one to not put themselves at risk at getting one
@@FF18Cloudhow about “if they worked harder to afford it they wouldn’t steal a car.” ??? Why is it so easy for you to blame the system for bad behavior instead of making people take accountability for their actions?
Eddie Jordan the only team owner to sign a driver based on his nationality. Eddie was told of an up and coming driver named Tim O'Glock so believing this guy was Irish signed him. The driver in question wasn't Irish but German, one Timo Glock. Still the luck of the Irish was with Eddie and he got a good driver despite his own mistake.
After the belgian grand prix, Eddie Jordan didn t loose time to offer a contract to Schumacher for the rest of the season and 1992 as well. But, Schumacher never showed up at the appointment he had, to sign in the contract. He was already in his move to go with Benetton instead...
The thing was that jordan was way over his budget for 1991 the reason he took the Yamaha engines for 1992 - they were free of charge). So he went to Sauber-Mercedes, which had Schumi under legal contract and told them that he'd like to keep Michael but only if they pay another sum of money like they did before Spa. Briatore and Walkinshaw saw their chance and told Mercedes that they will take Schumi and would not want anything to be payed so Shumi went to Benetton. Now wonder the next sentence by Ron Dennis to Eddie Jordan was "Welcome to the piranha club"
Schumey also had to use a bike to get to know the Spa circuit. Also, Gachot's son Louis Gachot did some running at F4 level a few years back. Didn't make the same impact as his old man.
@@las10plagas Bicycle. The legends goes that Jordan called Michael's manager Willi Weber and asked if Michael ever ran at Spa, to which Weber replied "Yes, many times". But the first Michael ran on the circuit was before the race on a bicycle :D
You get threatened, in self defence sray CS gas and then should apologize to the man who threatend you. Bizarre. They did have a contract it was the wording which in it which was open to interpretation.
Dutchman Cor Euser (raced in formula 3000 and world championship sportscars with a Spice) was in the running to replace Bertrand Gachot. He lost out to Michael Schumacher who was ofcourse much more promising. Instead Euser went to the USA and drove a handful of indycar races in late 1991.
9:35 how DARE he insult sportscar racing like that? Gachot also drove at le mans, a 24h race where you drive group c 800hp monsters half asleep thru the night/rain/fog with your 2 teammates and to still win by driving flawlessly for so long is just as demanding as an f1 race.
Typical UK law! Let the taxi driver off, although he got out and started it. Both were at fault, but 18 months for defending yourself, only in the UK or Canada!
The clutch didnt fail, it was his inexperience with the car. I will also add that he didnt know Spa as a Track. That his manager lied back in 91 to Jordan that he knows the track and that he used a bicycle to learn the track. (totally not important) Also you missed the reaction to the Gachot sentence and you forgot that it was suppose to be his home race. Watch "Former F1 driver Bertrand Gachot CONFRONTS Eddie Jordan" the full interview. Have fun. You can do better.
Hmmm.. Ricardo Patrice? Rosberg '81 world champ? incorrect pictures of various people! ridiculous mistakes for someone who has an F1 Channel, video title a bit judgemental too, although you did tell the story well for the most part. Overall nowhere near as bad as most so called F1 channels run by click baiting liars!
- Saying Keke's year was 1981 and not 1982. - Talking about De Cesaris whilrs showing Zanardi. - Calling Gachot 'сяiмiиаI' and 'dumb'. WHAT A CLICKBAIT OF A VIDEO you've created.
Got to defend Gachot there. He was a bloody quick driver finally given a shot in a good car. This whole spray-can thing got blown out of proportion. As far as I know, the taxi driver threatened him, he used gas-spray as self-defense because he felt in danger. He did not know the use of gas-spray was banned in the UK. He was belgian, after all, and it was legal there. Of course it was against the law, but taking the circumstances into consideration, common sense would say he should not be jailed. No wonder the drivers took part in protest for his sentence, wearing FreeGachot t-shirts.
I would not call Bertrand Gachot a dumb person. You better see what he has accomplished since his racing career. He has made a super fortune in business in very clever ways. I doubt you are even close to his IQ.
I get that UK regulations ban CS gas. But the guy did nothing but defending from a cabbie that was threatening him. And even if he was a good street fighter, a F1 driver can't risk hurting his hands, so he couldn't have done anything else.
I'm not a fan of F1 (don't kill me, I just never got into it) but even I heard of Michael Schumacher. I never knew he was replacing someone who tried to kill a guy
7:09 act like the offices true I believe it's the best thing that I could have done is put him in prison and I'll tell you why because it proves the point that celebrity can't get away with their crime
