Miniature wargaming tabletop terrain, scenery and models? Well this is a good place to start, heres how I made my dungeon "set" (the walls and floors). I think it should come in very useful when showcasing some future builds. Enjoy
Materials used for this build -
10mm xps foam, mod podge, black acrylic paint, selection of various grey and brown acrylic paints and some washes. Some various flock, and some tiny magnets
Tools -
Craft knife, paint brushes, marker pen, steel ruler

Haha😅 thanks but I did actually save up and manage to buy one eventually, and honestly it's a game changer 😅 but there's plenty that can still be made without a proxxon

You can use a piece of kitchen washing up sponge to stipple on the paint when dry brushing.

Look into knitting supplies, A smaller knitting needle works great to define lines. I found out by accident when my niece was drawing in my foam with a knitting needle.

Awesome! I love your style and had to subscribe after watching 4 of your videos. Just wondering though - what goes into your wash? I can see you made your own.
@irongryphon
@irongryphon 4 года назад
Thanks very much 🙂 I do briefly mention it in one video, but its 3 parts Vallejo black wash, 2 parts vallejo brown wash, and 1 part water (cos those washes are quite thick for a wash). It will need a little shake before use each time

Love it. Been painting minis for a while but only recently got into scratch building terrain. Looking forward to ploughing through your vids. Can I ask what's the purpose of using the mod podge mix? What would happen if I simply undercoated the foam with plain acrylic paint? And, do you use the matte finish version?
@irongryphon
@irongryphon 3 года назад
The mod podge will act as a sealer. Paint by itself may do an okay job, but adding mod podge will also vastly improve its durability. After all this terrain is meant to be played on, touched, stored, moved about, and man-handled 😅 so durable terrain is key. And yes, absolutely use the matte version 🙂👍🏻 hope that all helps. And best of luck with your terrain crafting

@@irongryphon many thanks, bud. That's very useful to know. I put together a small tower yesterday (building it brick by brick!) and painted it up, all as a kind of tester. Today I've started on a small cottage. The build is much better, and I think I've stumbled across this just in time; I've not painted any of it yet! Mod podge it is. Thanks for the reply. Keep up the great work!

This is awesome stuff! I'm curious how you magnetized the walls?
@irongryphon
@irongryphon 4 года назад
Thank you so much 🙂👍🏻 you can buy tiny neodymium magnets on eBay in packs of about 50 ish. I just used a few 4mm magnets and they were strong enough to hold the walls in place for glamour shots purposes 🙂

Hello I'm enjoying your videos and really love the style you have to color your walls dungeons. Sorry to ask written but English is not my primary language... What are using to stamp the little bricks? Thanks for the answer and specially thanks for share your cool works and designs : ) Edit: I paused the video to ask, but a second later, got it... anything that resemble a brick ,😅
@irongryphon
@irongryphon 4 года назад
Haha yes, literally anything brick shaped and sized, and hard enough to press into foam 🙂👍🏻

@@irongryphon I'm writing to you from Mexico City. I think you're from England. It's curious... From what I have seen so far on RU-vid, and generally speaking, I think the European artists/Crafters use a "less grey" palette of colors on their tiles/walls. I tend to like more the "European style".(really love your selection of colors). I just finished my double sided tiles made out from foam board. One side finished like stone for dungeon and the other side like wood for tavern, docks etc. They're great for storage as foam board is slim, but the 3 larger I made (12 x 6 inch) kind of warp a little bit, but no problem at all once you put it on the table. Also they warp less after I finished them with a coat of mod podge and a coat of protecting spray from rust oleum brand.
@irongryphon
@irongryphon 4 года назад
I am indeed from England , I hope my accent isnt too thick for those speaking English as a second language 😅 I think having some brown colours in the stone work gives a more natural look and it looks less boring. Double sided tiles are a great space saver 👍🏻😀 thanks for watching

I simply cannot replicate you grey drybrush step for the life of me, I cant get the coverage or the colour right
@irongryphon
@irongryphon 3 года назад
I would say it's more of an overbrush, go quite heavy with it. Something between drybrushing and painting. And hopefully the black/brown wash will help with the final result 🙂👍🏻

This might seem a silly question - but where do you typically get that blue xps foam? I know you have an affiliate link for the pink stuff but it can be really handy to run out and grab some when needed and I never seem to find it in b&q or whatever! Any tips?
@irongryphon
@irongryphon 3 года назад
I've never been able to find it in shops to be honest. And the blue stuff is now a kind of charcoal colour. So I buy all of my XPS on eBay 👍🏻🙂

ty for video. Im new here. How many tiles do i need?
@irongryphon
@irongryphon 4 года назад
It really depends on the size of the dungeon you want to lay out. Start with 30 tiles of 3x3 inches. Or like me mix up the sizes, do some 2x4, or 5x5. And of course you don't have to make them square. You could make some circles or hexagons. Check out my other video on interesting dungeon tiles for cool ideas 👍🏻😀
