"So plants are dying out" hmm, sounds bad "But we can get them back" okay ... so no problem "yeah, but then it rains acid and every plant dies" Sounds terrible "btw, I guess the sun is going out" ... and the acid rain was your first concern?
Really doubt they lost the sun as there would be a LOT of other implications such as the planet flinging out into empty space and freezing over. Much more likely that the world is just covered in smog blocking out the sun. Love ur video btw.
@@liquidsweg4858 I want you to realize this is a thread under a video about a game where the sun went out and nothing happened to the people on the planet, and this specific thread is about said science of that incident, that YOU WILLINGLY tapped/clicked on.
@@Marcusianery No, the sun will start to expand as it runs out of hydrogen and helium until it turns into a red giant. The core will continue to fuse heavier and heavier elements as it gets hotter and more dense. Earth will be irradiated and scorched into a lifeless rock long before that happens and eventually most of the inner planets will be absorbed by the expanding red giant. Nuclear fusion at the core will eventually stop when the core starts to fuse into iron. Once that happens our sun will no longer be able to maintain equilibrium with its own gravity and collapse in on itself and then explode in a supernova. It's too small to turn into a black hole so it'll wind up a white dwarf. This is, of course, billions of years in the future.
the 'head of the orphanage is secretly doing something dastardly with the children' is hardly a new trope... one thats quite worn, actually. but this was a refreshing take on it, methinks! and just a really interesting concept in general... using enough bones from reality/the US economic/class system to make it feel like this isnt an impossible future this was the first game of a studio!? wow
You should look into the Infantoriums of the 1800s. A lot of people's ancestors come from pods bought at fairs. Probably why the majority of the US have unknown heritage past 200 years.
So it's basically altered carbon the game, or as close as we're gonna get. It's honestly very cool and a great genre I guess, futuristic, noir, detective thriller, crime mystery. Very interesting concept.
Altered Carbon was the first thing this game reminded me of! Between the premise and gameplay this game comes across as the lovechild of Altered Carbon and Bioshock with a dash of the cyberpunk 2020 ttrpg.
The world of this game sounds horrific. I don't want to live forever, neither do I want my body "repossessed" by the government, and there are enough other people out there who hold bodily autonomy as an important boundary that I don't think the government could actually pass a law to force it... but they'd probably try if they had the chance. God, I hope they never do. Death is a part of life. It's sad, but I think it's one of the reasons why taking joy in the people and world around you are important- they, and you, won't be there forever. Remember, folks- the government doesn't own you, and the government *shouldn't* own you.
Do you really own something if you cant sell it or even give it away? If someone does indeed sell their body to the government then id say that yeah the government does own them. Something being a part of life doesn't mean it should continue to be part of life, disease is part of life and yet we routinely get rid of them, death is no different, the ultimate disease.
if consciousness is taken by the government by the time we are repossessed then does that mean a part of us know we are stored like files in a harddrive somewhere like we can see ourselves with no body and just consciousness thats wild
Having to pay a subscription just to keep your body, only a complete and utter madman would come up with such an idea, you gotta be insane to agree to something like that
Ngl we’re getting closer and closer everyday with the foolishness! Look how many subscriptions people have to deal with! Everything is coming out with one, even vehicles (ie Tesla)
@@rookholgado2966 personally, I've only ever used one subscription service and that was Microsoft 365 but I cancelled it after I was done with all my assignments, as for movies, I got Netflix but that's it, everything else I usually use is barebones free with ads of course
You know what would be a messed up but interesting thing they could have added, imagine getting tortured to death then getting revived and getting tortured again and again… till even your own soul can’t take it anymore.
It strikes me as a bit derivative of Altered Carbon in setting and premise, where it's a semi-dystopic, noire future where technology has allowed effective immortality and uncoupling the consciousness of a person from their original physical form, and the wealthy and powerful abuse it. But maybe it's more of an homage. And then again, if "immortality" is the trope, it's all derivative of the Epic of Gilgamesh.
@@vobp-kk6kzit was just forbidden to avoid overpopulation, otherwise the entire deparment the guy was from would not be needed as no one would be able to have children
This is the 1% wet dream, total and complete control all the while having 99% of the population as slaves and replacement bodies. There was a movie with a similar concept from 2005 called "The Island". If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it as its a fantastic watch.
this reminds me exactly of Altered Carbon. they have “sleeves” for the word body and “Stack” is the thing that saves their consciousness for “re-sleeving”. this is another cool way to use the body swap sci-fi story.
I LOVE seeing unique games like these from small studios who get to see their vision out fully without being forced to change or add shit by bigger companies!!! Love it! It’s another reason why your channel is soo great man!!
If people are confused if why the Sun didn’t go supernova when it died. Is because according to nasa, The Sun will never turn into a black hole because it’s not massive enough to explode. Instead, the Sun will become a dense stellar remnant called a white dwarf.
Oooh, this game looks amazing! It’s giving me Bioshock nostalgia vibes, and wow that “the path to immortality” segment was bleak, and I can’t get the feeling that it feels somewhat realistic, maybe? From what I’ve seen on the internet, (although I can’t believe everything from there) it feels weird. I don’t know, maybe it’s my anxiety/depression kicking in. 😂😮
_"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."_
Love your videos! It would mean a lot if you would put captions on them though. The YT auto-generated ones just aren't good enough at capturing a lot of what is being said. Hope you take it into consideration.
I love BladeRunner, Altered Carbon, Cyberpunk 2077. I'm a sucker for this world building. I usually not play "walking simulators" but damn! This one was good.
Very interesting video and topic. Such things would have sounded bizarre and unreal to me a couple years back and now, I can't tell you for sure that won't be the future.
I usually never comment on videos but you sincerely need to know how much I look forward to your videos. You must continue your work, for the sake of art.
Didn't know anything about this game, but the opening, with that woman sitting next to you in the car felt so real. Don't know how they did it, but the woman had a 'presence' I'd not seen before. Perhaps VR games are like that all the time! But the more Harry explained, the less I liked it. Like the devs were gradually turning the 'bonkers' dial up, to see how mad the story could be. Still, very interesting, for all that.
This game reminds me of the show Altered Carbon show on Netflix, Similar premise where people are able to buy "sleeves" (lobotomized and/or functionally dead human bodies) in order to continue living and where the wealthy elite tended to get more choices in their new bodies. I honestly wonder if the creators if this game took any inspiration from the show.
"If I depict yet another immortal fictional character suffering fictional immortal woes, people will be more comfortable with death! Again!" Same as it ever was.
It's quite fun to think that green, the rich fella that abused his immortality the most was the first to notice that in that pace, the revival sistem would be simply unsustainable and that he needed to wipe the rich. Quite revolutionary aint it? in this type of game i would think there would be a rebel faction doing this kind of stuff. Reminds me of robin hood if he had zero morality and ethics
Pretty cool game, but the whole worldbuilding point about putting up a subscription fee on life and repossessing people's bodies is just nonsense. Why would people that know they can't afford the subscription not deliberately mess up their bodies just to spite the rich, or not just off themselves as soon as they reach 21? Sure, the game is called 'nobody wants to die', but really, when you live in a world like this, dying is actually a good thing.
This isn't a story about humans reconciling with functional immortality. This is a story about crony capitalists selling you life as a subscription service.
"an on rails walking sim with CSI elements". simple. elegant. why the fuck can't the Epic Games Store hire someone to write up such an eloquent and concise description, is it that fucking hard to describe something without the marketing jargon? no. it fuckin isn't. it only takes up 7 words. thanks Harry, i appreciate a script that assumes the audience to be human. great writing
I wonder what they do with people with physical disabilities, like if you’re paralyzed at a young age, do they still take your body? Cause E class seems to be pretty minor inconveniences like, drug abusers, if you get through the withdrawals and detox, you get a pretty okay body after that. But like what if you are an acid or burn victim, do they let you keep your body or do they still take it and no one uses it?
so essentially altered carbon. but instead of the person creating immortality for selfish, albiet benevolent intentions. which humanity quickly ruined, as it tends to, we have this. which is arguably worse as at least you can choose to keep your body and never have your conscious downloaded in altered carbon
