tr.ee/T7sSZnpw9z Thank you for watching our ear wax removal video today. The ear wax extraction featured in todays video was carried out using endoscopic microsuction. This procedure uses a small camera called an endoscope to visualise inside the ear canal whilst a small suction tube is inserted to gently remove ear wax.
We can also use other tools to remove hard ear wax, foreign bodies, peeling dead skin or for ear infection removal.
All the ear wax cleaning videos you see on our channel are carried out by our ear wax specialists Mr Rhys Barber and Mr Taylor Green.
We post new ear cleaning videos Monday - Friday at 9PM GMT so if you find ear wax removal satisfying please consider subscribing to our channel.
Ear wax plays a vital role in ear health. It helps to prevent ear infection and helps with ear cleaning by picking up any dirt or debris that accumulates in the ear canal. Normally this ear wax would fall out of the ear taking any dirt or debris with it.
How to remove ear wax?
Many people use q-tips/cotton buds for ear wax removal at home this is one of the worst things you can put into the ear as this can lead to an increased ear wax buildup or in extreme cases impacted ear wax. The best way to remove ear wax is to let your ears clean themselves and not to put anything smaller than your elbow in your ears!
How do I know if I have an earwax blockage?
If you experience a change in your hearing, discomfort in the ear or jaw or a feeling of fullness in the ear canal you may have an ear wax blockage. Our advice is to speak to your Doctor or local Audiologist who can take a look in your ears and assess whether ear cleaning is needed.

I’m glad you mentioned that you can get psoriasis in the ear. I paid an ENT consultant over $400 dollars for less than 5mns for micro-suction. I told him I have psoriasis and he said you can’t get psoriasis in your ears. He was close to retirement. Never went back. I’m in Auzzie.

I'm actually surprised that your suction tool doesn't have a way (foot control?) for you to toggle the suction on and off. For cases like this, you could insert the fine tube with no suction, then turn it on after you get past the narrow passage, past the skin flaps, etc. Perhaps you could talk with the manufacturer about a future feature like this for their equipment!

I had just paused the video to suggest the same thing! As soon as he said the canal could collapse against the suction tube. I think a pressure foot would be a great idea. Same concept as a sewing machine with a pedal or knee control.

I've thought of this same thing a few times myself. Been watching these videos and other wax removal videos and have always wondered why they couldn't turn it on and off. So many videos where the ear canal collapses while they are in there and I get frustrated just watching lol. They truly are patient saints doing cases like this

Are ear canals this small/narrow caused by injury/illness, or is it just something natural that occasionally happens?
@airedale1913
@airedale1913 Год назад
I think when they start to collapse around the entrance that quite often happens in older patients, possibly exacerbated by certain medical conditions or treatments. I'd imagine them being small in the first place is primarily genetics though.

Perhaps, on occasion, share a video your long time fans could probably voice-over, then maybe you and Taylor could tell us some stories about your background, how / why you got into audiology; something along those lines. Do the suction tools not have a vent hole that can be covered and uncovered to redirect the point of suction? Like found on a yaunker used by a respiratory therapist. That way you can go deeper to where the suction is needed before actually sectioning? That would prevent the skin flap getting in the way so much.

When I worked in the ED, we used water being squirted into the ear,but not a water pik. I used a 20 or 30 cc syringe and I cut the needle off of a butterfly. The tubing allows you to squirt water into the ear and you can move it around. We used warm water with just a little hydrogen peroxide to help soften the wax. I never met a wax impaction I couldn't evacuate!!

I've always wondered why your standard and fine end tools vary so much in power. Usually, when you put a narrower hose/tube, etc., the suction power increases. Are these run on different strength vacuum devices? A variable strength vacuum device would be ideal, as long as it had a "max" power that could't injure the patient. This would allow the audiologist to increase the suction power as needed, including when extra power is needed for the "fine end". Maybe that's something you guys can pioneer and make a few bucks at the same time, lol. Well done.
