You should do the early history of the WWWF and maybe even cover McMahons first few months as booker. Great job Dave!

I know his opinions rub people the wrong way but Jim Cornette tells a great story of how awful Herd was. Ric Flair actually quit as booker after getting WCWs highest ratings since Turner bought out Crockett because Herd wouldn't leave him alone or shut up for two seconds. When you have a guy that has zero experience running wrestling, it's doom to fail. Dixie failed, Russo failed and TK is hanging on by a thread

Yeah, I don’t agree with everything Jim Cornette always says, but I do find myself agreeing with him about 97% of the time. I don’t think there’s anyone out there. I’m going to agree everything with 100% of the time, I don’t agree with Jim on some how he views the curtain Cole at all and I don’t agree with him on his views with The Miz but everything else whether it’s his takes on the NWA/WCW, WWE, old, southern, wrestling, modern wrestling. I agree with him pretty much spot on with. But yes, Jim paints the perfect picture on how bad Jim Herd ruin WCW from I would say really mid-1990 right after Sting won the NWA World Championship all the way until he was gone. It’s my biggest argument on why WCW didn’t go away in 2001 because of poor ratings because if that was the case WCW would’ve went away in 1991 . 1991 I think it’s easily the worst year up until 1999. I grew up in the Carolinas, so me and my brother and my friends and my friends parents we were always WCW fans first over WWF, but 1991 WCW was so bad especially after Ric Flair left is when we started watching WWF on a weekly basis.

Robocop the film may have had an R rating, but Robocop was very popular in the late 80s with kids. I distinctly remember watching the Robocop cartoon and also had Robocop action figures, despite not being allowed to watch the film since I was still way too young. Plus Robocop 2 was being advertised later that same year that Robocop appeared in WCW, so it does sort of make sense from a marketing standpoint, even if it was embarrassing from a wrestling standpoint.

I honestly find it hard to believe that Ole Anderson was the who had the idea for the Robocop angle as that wreaks of Jim Herd and the angle that caused Rhodes to be fired took place on the December 3rd episode of World Championship Wrestling and the company allowed him to stay until after Starrcade: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FGYJpYlawm0.html

Who knew that giving a man who worked at Pizza Hut the role as WCW President would be a bad thing, right? But this proves that even the 2nd biggest wrestling company in the entire world (at that time) had to deal with the biggest of hurdles in their humble beginnings. Unfortunately…..they dealt with a hurdle too great for them in their sad end as well. Great video Dave and as always, very educational.

But you've only heard one side of the story. The FACT is that JCP wouldn't have been sold to Turner if it was a working/successful business model. It lost millions of dollars, and lots of fans, as it was inherently flawed. Jim Herd was brought in to try and stop the bleeding, and turn things around. And, if you're put in charge of something that's losing millions of dollars a year, do you stick to the same formula? Or, do you change things? If the Man on top isn't drawing flies, do you keep him on top, or try something different?

@@DaveKnowsWrestling It's not easy when people are sabotaging you. "Jim Herd" has become a dirty term thanks to people insulting him for over 30 years. But, how successful were those same people in the pro wrestling business in those 30 years? That position in WCW was a thankless job, as Bill Watts would later find out. Are you gonna say that Watts didn't have any idea what he was doing? Or were there absurd restrictions and obstacles for Bill Watts in WCW? Just as there were for Jim Herd...

I'm super for confused with Bill Watts. On one hand, there are numerous stories and allegations out there about his supposed racist and bigoted views. And yet, Watts at Mid-South, pushed the Junkyard Dog as a top babyface and had Ernie Ladd as his head booker. And then when he was at WCW, Watts was instrumental in Ron Simmons becoming the first recognized black world's champion in professional wrestling history. It's like Bill Watts is a walking contradiction.
@DaveKnowsWrestling
@DaveKnowsWrestling Год назад
Or it's that racism isn't a light switch. It isn't on or off. There are levels and different behaviors and different reactions. Plus like anything else in wrestling, fans will more than likely never know the truth
