In Part 2 of this series, MY EARLY YEARS… Nanny and Moose sit and reminisce on their personal growth…which began right after their marriage and brief Cape Cod honeymoon. They were on their own….leaving close family and friends for the first time and off to a new destination and lifestyle change…ARMY LIFE AT FT. KNOX, KY…..Nanny’s dream of a large family began and soon their little blessings began to further fill their lives.This video spans the time gap of 8 years of Army life, return to New Jersey and their first apartment, and a freak accident that happened before the purchase of their first home. With four babies in tow, the day came when they set off once again….this time to a faraway magical place….Scotland! With heavy hearts but exciting anticipation , Nanny and Moose and their 4 little toddlers boarded the Queen Elizabeth Cunard ship to set sail across the Atlantic to another 3 year adventure! Moose speaks of how his confidence grew from Army experiences as a 24 year old Company Commander while Nanny taught school on the Army Post !
Next video will be a continuation of personal growth in Scotland, European travels, returning home to a brief New Jersey life again …..then off to California and the West Coast….this time in the San Francisco Bay Area…❤️❤️
For more of The Life of Nanny and Moose…you might like to check out our long 60th Wedding Anniversary Video…SECRETS TO REACHING A 60th ANNIVERSARY..over 100 clips and photos of our life together and more introspective chats. Having just returned from a funeral for my 55 year old friend, who adored his 48 year old wife,I can’t stress enough( with my own sweet husband),how great memories give us comfort. You two are the epitome of what we should all strive for in marriage. Love you both‼️

Love, love, love your video today with your “Preppey” Moosie!! He really looks very debonair today, next to his beautiful bride. Your stories bought back memories of my childhood again. My Dad was in the Army and got orders to go to Europe for 3 yrs. Our Mom flew with 3 kids, my brother 7, baby brother almost 2, and myself, 10 3/4 yrs, The whole plane was full of Moms and screaming kids. The Dads were in Paris waiting for us . We had engine problems and had to land in Newfoundland. Finally the third time, they got everything fixed. We were hours late and couldn’t contact anyone, but we thanked God we made it! All the families cried when we finally landed in Paris and hugged our Dad’s. One year in France and two yrs. in Germany. Great traveling seeing a lot of Europe, but glad to come back to the good old USA! Sorry so long Nanny. God bless you two wonderful people 😊👍🏻

@@pandorah1801 Thamk you for the comment. It was a wonderful experience for me and my family. As I stated, we got to see a lot of different countries and how each country were so different than one another. One thing I remember about Germany was that, their forests were so clean. There was no underbrush growing, or laying around. Each village was pristine and clean. The window boxes and gardens were spotless.

@@crushingtheir80snannyandmoose Hi Nanny, I think being in the Army for 20 years made me resilient, stronger and adventurous, more than kids that didn’t have that experience. Many times we all wished we could go home to see our grandparents, aunts and uncles etc.,, especially during the holidays. It was an awesome experience that most people never have, especially kids. But like I stated before, it was great to be back in the good old USA! Blessings to you and Moosie! 💕👍🏻

Love your stories. I had 4 children by the time I was 22. I'm amazed that I was able to handle that.😁 anther child 12 years later. I was not able to stay married after 17 years but I admire those like you and Moose for keeping the sparks going after all these years. It saddens me, that my marriage didn't last, but that's how it is. Bless you and Moose and all your adventures. You make my day each time I watch you.

Dear Nanny and Moose, I thoroughly enjoy hearing about your history together. You have a very colorful background. Growing your family while experiencing military life. Then moving abroad. You had opportunities that formulated who you are today. How interesting for you and your little ones. These are the stories that will be passed from one generation to the next. I must mention that the candles and blue background was beautiful today. Could you please share how you got your nicknames, Nanny and Moose. A big Congratulations on the new baby. How exciting that there is a happy celebration in the midst of all of the stress that we are experiencing. A new year, a new beginning, a new baby. You are truly blessed. When I think back to 1960, that is when we were married, it seems like just yesterday. It was so very different back then. As you said the social rules were different. I noticed your white gloves in one of the photos. I wish that some of those things were still around. I would give up some of the new technology to return to a slower, gentler time. The busy life that you had with your jobs and family still allowed for quality time together. You both embody the qualities that I respect. Work ethic, family, love, manners. You keep current with technology, living style etc. However you also appreciate your antiques, memories and mementos from the past. I believe that we can blend the two together and appreciate both. I am a very sentimental person. Today’s young people are leaning towards minimalism and I fear that the future generations will not appreciate the things that we treasure and hand down to them. Even the photographs are on a device. How will those be handed down? I hope that some will follow your lead with stories, photos and mementos being handed down. Blessings to you both, love, Sharon 🌷💕🌸

Great response once again, Sharon…yes, the white gloves, the stockings, hats and expected social graces were definitely a mark of the times…and probably added certain elements to our later years…thanks again for sharing…hugs, 💕😘❤️

I could not have said it better! So true I miss the white gloves I wore as a little girl and white being only for spring and summer. The straw hats and getting dressed up for Sunday church and lunch at Grandma’s. These memories and more are irreplaceable and I know my children realize already that they will not in many ways be able to replicate that gentler time we lived in as adults in or like myself grew up in. It truly is a bygone era.
@kathleenj.9829
@kathleenj.9829 2 года назад
In the office I worked in (50’s-60’s) one of the rules was that the women had to wear stockings (no bare legs), and the men had to wear a shirt and tie. It was a welcome change when stockings came out without seams, but we always kept nail polish on hand to stop runs! Those rules today would be considered archaic, or staff would be protesting, but at the time everyone accepted proper attire to be the norm.
@sharondevries1985
@sharondevries1985 2 года назад
@@kathleenj.9829 Kathleen, yes back then everyone knew where they stood. There were rules to live by. School, work, church etc. Personally, I like rules. Today everyone just seems do whatever they want. Children defy their parents and teachers. When they become adults their habits are established. Of coarse we need to progress but I would like to see a compromise between the old and new. A blend of both. I remember the clear nail polish repairs. At least if one stocking was ruined, the other one was still usable. With pantyhose a run ruins the whole thing lol. Best wishes (our first daughter’s name was Kathleen)

Loving this video as I have all of them that I have watched. Brings back lots of our military days of 22.5 years but more often alone raising the children than with my hubby who was on flying status as a loadmaster and gone allllllllllll the time. That's another story but it's a story! I also agree the best thing for newly weds is to be off on their own in the beginning and really learn what that bond and depending only on each other means. Not always easy but it frees them up also to get to know the real person each of us is and our strengths and not so strong moments. ;-) This is just a precious story and I am loving it. I can't wait for your next installment. ;-) Congratulations on your newest great grandbaby! Sweet precious little ones. God bless, enjoy your yogurt and stay healthy! :-)

My first husband & I lived in CA when he got out of boot camp. We had an apartment next door to another Marines he worked with. It was me & my husband against the world & to me it was the best year of our marriage. Our 1st baby was 5 months old when he got out of boot camp. I got pregnant then with our second baby, who was born at the military hospital. Then 5 months later I got pregnant with our third baby but I was sick 24-7 & the two babies & I moved back to the Midwest where my mom & younger sisters helped me care for the two babies until I got over the morning sickness. Sadly our marriage ended before we were married 10 years & I truly believe the marriage would have lasted if we had not moved back to our home town when he got out of the service at the end of his 2 year hitch in the military.

A wonderful video Nanny and Moose. We married in 69 and the rents, by todays standards, were inexpensive to say the least. In 71 we moved to a lovely rental where we paid $115 for a beautiful six room apartment with front and back porches. Well in 1971 there was a rent freeze and this put us in a position to put money away and in 73 we bought a house for $25,800. The rent was then $250 and we hoped we'd be able to afford it. We stay in this house for almost 30 years bringing up four kids. The times have really changed since the 50, 60, 70. Everyone is always in a hurry, even my children they're always working or running around for one thing or another never taking the time to smell the roses. On Tuesday Steve and I will be married 53 years and it's been a great experience. I hope we make it to 60 years. Stay well and God Bless.

Oh boy this I’m sure takes us all back in time especially some of us that we’re getting married in the sixty’s and earlier , hello Nanny and Moose I’ve just got to watching you going back in time it’s nice to reminisce, and whilst your doing that , it takes me back as well to my early years, and what lovely news the new great grand daughter congratulations and glad mom and baby doing well , . Going back to your journey how exciting for you both and your children to sail across the ocean , to your new episode in Scotland , the one thing that sticks in my mind was when we had babies we used to do the house decorating whilst caring for the babies that was hard work , when you speak about prices of houses and wages in those days , compared to now just seems like a dream . But you did well and enjoyed your time over here, I have really enjoyed this video and how eloquent you and Nanny and Moose tell this story of your early marriage and life thank you for sharing love to you both Jean 💕 💐🌷❤️

This was fun to watch! My husband and I are celebrating our 43rd anniversary today! I can really relate to your lack of cooking experience. The only things I could make were scrambled eggs and meatloaf when we first got married. Now, 5 children and 9 grandchildren later I have had lots more experience and have also come a long way! LOL Take care! Love, Kathy xoxoxo

Moosey is a kick. What a blessing to have so many children. And what a blessing for your children to have you both. Congrats re your new great grand baby. Little Annie wasn’t so little. I had big babies too. 3 daughters fist one when I was 20. 2nd one 2 years later and my 3rd 13 months later. I loved being a mom to my precious babies and I had no help at all. As you said, Nanny those responsibilities cause us to grow up fast. Now I am 72 and a widow.

Loooved it … take all the time you need, can’t wait for more! When I was 5 my father was transferred to Madrid,Spain, to serve at the American Embassy. My sister and mother and father and I lived there for nearly 4 years. So, I had this experience as a child, but it had a profound influence on my life. Perhaps you could include interviews with your children to share their memories and what formative times they had. More! Hugs, Patricia

Love the video. So fun to hear what life was like in the early years of your marriage. You sure had a lot of fun and adventure. You both look so happy in the photos. Interesting to hear about Fort Knox and the army. I wouldn't really know what that was like, even though my dad and some of my uncles were in the military in WWII. Actually one of my aunts was in the army. That's where she met my uncle. Anyway, made me think of them . They would talk a lot about how they would miss each other when they were shipped out, etc. My mom told us that one Christmas Eve, when my dad was away at sea in the navy, she missed him so much that she bought herself a mink coat at a store that she had been admiring. At that time she was teaching kindergarten in Brooklyn, NY. Watching you two talk reminds me of these old stories. I love to hear about it. How did you do all that you did. I love how you would fall in love with a house and then move to Scotland, then what happened there. I like how you took a boat over to Scotland. Exciting times. Thank you for sharing with us. MJ♥️🚢🪖🏡🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇸
