I love this lady first video I've ever watched but as a man that learned everything I've ever learned about canning from my grandmother it made me feel like I was back in her kitchen. Never thought to use the pulp but I will this year. Thank u so much for taking the time to share the younger generation will now have access to the proper way to can tomato juice.
This video is GREAT. I did this today with my garden tomatoes and it turned out so good. Love your method for blending the peels and seeds…nothing wasted. I’ll do this every year now. My grandma used to water bath can everything and now I’m 52, and I’ve been canning for just over two years. I love the old ways because they were from the good days. Thank you 😊
I just wanted to say I will be using this method this year. The only thing I will do different is I will seal my jars in my dishwasher...I do not use a water bath anymore..more. I have a sanitizer cycle and it works well. I have done that for the last 5 years and no problems and I do about 120 pints each year.
Can we not just blend tomatoes n boil for 30 mins instead od the 2 process u went thru of first taking out juice n then blending the pulp n skin. I wuld appreciate if u tell me if it makes a difference, pls
If you have a blender that is heavy duty enough to do this such as a vitamix, which I don't have, then it should work. Do a test batch of a few quarts.... fingers crossed it works for you.
Awesome video. I have a much smaller juicer but it works great for juices and it leaves the skins/peels very dry easy to dehydrated and powdered. You right about the stoves. I had to call my stove’s manufacturer and they reassured me it was safe to pressure can in my glass top stove. But they did say, I also needed to look at the manual of my canner. I did, and thank God I can. Awesome video. Thank you for sharing
Thank you! 💐 LOADS of terrific information/demonstration! A hello to your "little Supervisor" LOL On a side note.... funny, you kind of "beat me to it" with your idea (mine are Vitamix or Paradice). I have the same juicer you do and it's the best in my opinion (love carrot juice) I never had had any issues with canning on my glass top stove (I know water weights a lot) and I use 2 canners at the same time. I think it's the induction stove tops that can't carry the weight. I wouldn't want one LOL
Thanks! I never thought of incorporating the pulp back into the juice. Having it kind of thicker would probably be better for that soup recipe, yeah? I'll give this a try with my juicer later, though I'll skip the canning step and just use it right away. Your son was really cute and helpful, by the way. (What a great kid!)
If you don't can, that is fine. Just cook the juice so it will get thicker than just running it thru the juicer and using it immediately... It will be better..... Thank you so much for the compliment!! 💜
@@dreamstorealityhomestead4647 I gave it a try today, blending the pulp and cooking it in like you said. It was a good thickness! I added a drop of balsamic vinegar and a drop of olive oil, as I like adding that to tomato dishes. I didn't have any macaroni noodles on hand, so I added corn and rice to it instead. (I think it would be good with red lentils and/or beans, too.) Thank you for the pulp tip. It was very satisfying!
Thank you very much. Gratitude. Here in Brazil we put cayenne pepper, basil, a celery stalk and a little olive oil. Your recipe is sensational. I'm going to make and add these other ingredients that we use around here. Congrats and thanks again.
When I saw people struggling with those 'cone type' or 'hand crank' juicers, my first thought also went to my juicer. I'll bet you've got a couple attachments for that Kitchen-Aid mixer too. I love my pasta roller and my meat grinder. Makes life SO much easier.
I love this method!! Easy … my aunt still blanches her tomatoes and peels them hot BY HAND then hand grinds them… thennnnnn strains it to start canning. Smh… the juicer is fast and easy and with her calm voice and confidence she made filling directions so easy. ❤
I made juice last night...it took a whole big pan full of tomatoes, I cooked them, and then put them thru the food mill and finally canned them with lemon juice and some salt, and a little sugar in each quart....came out delicious but a lot of work....love to have a solid machine like this lady...btw my pulp is currently on my food dehydrator then then I will grind it into tomato powder.
In all honesty my juicer is over 20 years old... I love it... I haven't tried tomato powder yet. I am so thankful for it!! I love the chicken tomato bouillon so I know I would like it!!
@@audreyhensley8043 I don't know how others use it but I add about 1 Tbs or more , dried , powdered tomato skins when making meatloaf, meatballs, cabbage rolls, soup, sauces (for pasta) and more.
Great idea! Could you please post info about your juicer? Maybe a link so we could find one? I've seen steam juicers used for grapes and apples, but that one is amazing for tomatoes!
Amazing!😱 What an Awesome woman you are! Thank You Soooo Very Much! Excellent video, clarity, and presentation! ✝️GOD Bless You! PS: You are Bless to have space for a 2nd Stove! Your Little Man is a Blessing also!
Second year of working my tomatoes this way. The water bath still works good for me however the dishwasher is fascinating. I would like to see a video of it. Thanks for sharing your ideas, made life simpler.
The juicer I use is a Masticating juicer, the brand is unimportant. In Italy they use such juicers hand-driven or machine-driven to juice tomatoes especially. They deal with the skin, but most importantly they don't destroy the seed which can be bitter, especially in bigger varieties of tomatoes like the ones shown here. So I would use a different juicer. A nice side benefit is, they are quieter as well. For the pulp, my juicer gets out all the good stuff, that is the juice and the meat, the leftover is literally only stems, seed and skin. And way dryer then what you got here. But I would not suggest to get a different juicer, since you already got one. Buying another one would be a waste.
I never could understand why my mom and grandma tossed all that pulp and skins. What I've been doing all these years is canning it seperately and tossing it in soups, stews,, and chilis.......I think I like your idea even better.
It makes the juice so much thicker. I'm not sure if you are familiar with the brands of Campbell's or Red Gold. But if you are the consistency is similar to those. Instead of just red colored water in my opinion if I don't do that
Love it especially the beginning very professional and beautiful. I just love Tomatoes. I just made Grape Juice in my Juicer lol for my daily Communion. Love ya so much Precious Sissy Mary. 🥰🙋♀️👍
Thanks. This is the best video on making tomato juice. I also thought of using the juicer but thought that i would only use it after cooking. Hahaha youve just proved me wrong. Thank you so very much!! Question: do you always have to put it in the freezer than anywhere else in the fridge?
I made my juice today. cooked my tomato's down in 18 qt Roaster, used my Cordless Kitchen Aid stick type blender right in the pan. Fast and worked like magic.
Looks a whole lot easier than the lengthy cooking I did for mine. I may try it next year. How long did you cook them before filling jars? Did you bring to a boil?
My juicer is an older Jack LaLanne juicer. I have had it for around 20 years. As far as the best variety.... I use several heirloom varieties plus a couple varieties of a paste tomato. My Dad is an avid tomato grower so he saves seeds from several kinds. Oxheart, Grainger County, Mr. Stripy just off the top of my head.
Oh my. I do the easy way. One step. I have a blender. I core the tomato. Put the whole thing in my blender. Dump in pan. Cook till all the foam is gone. Pour in hot jar. Lid , ring. Steam can 10 minutes. Done Niji blender.
Thanks for this video! My daughter doesn’t like canned tomatoes. This is perfect. I already had the same juicer and a vitamix blender. It turned out great! I’m going to have to try the macaroni with tomato juice now. 😉
I actually started making tomato juice the same way, putting raw tomato's into the juicer. We never had enough tomatoes to can so my husband would drink it freshly "squeezed". This year I have plenty and will follow your method for processing and canning! I had planned to dehydrate and powder the pulp from the juicer, but I think I will try processing it further and add to my juice! Thanks for all the wonderful information!
Thank you for the kind words. I have made my juice like this for years and my family loves it. If I had a vitamix, I would put everything in it and save steps and mess, but I don't....
I've never canned tomato juice but I'm planning on it this year. This was very educational. I like the fact that you save your pulp. I'm going to do that to.
@@1962sparky The motor in my nutra bullet isn't strong enough to process everything that way or I would for sure.... You also have to have liquid in there or it bogs down. I think if you have a vitamix it would work because it is a stronger machine.
Me too. But I had no option but to try it. It worked fine for me with no damage to the stove and everything turned out fine. This is the second stove I have used for canning. @@dreamstorealityhomestead4647
You could if it is strong enough to stand up to constant use. Even tho my nutrabullet is a great blender it gets over heated and shuts off... Give it a try!!
It’s so funny l came across your video. Just this morning, l purchased a Hamilton Beach Juicer that was at a really good sale/discounts from JC Penney. Didn’t even THINK of using this in conjunction with canning up homemade juices like tomato juice. Thank goodness l saw your video!! ❤️❤️you’re the BEST!! 🥰
Wife and I are making tomato juice to reduce down to sauce to make salsa and spaghetti sauce and what not. The issue for us is that slicing, juicing with one of those older style hand crank tomato juicers take forever, and also reducing the juice to sauce takes days. I think we spent 3 hours doing roughly 250 tomatoes to make what we think will end up being 14 quart jars of sauce. Trying to find a way to speed up the whole process. We ended up with GALLONS of juice! Im hoping a juicer machine like yours will speed up the juicing process, we can tackle the reduction later. The pulp just plugs up everything we have tried and makes it go so so slowly....
@@dreamstorealityhomestead4647 Juice does not have skins or seeds blended. Juice is so easy. I put mine in a nesco roaster (frozen tomatoes) skins and all. Then put them in the roaster to soften and liquify, then put them in an colander (cone with pistle) to keep it all hot put it in a separate kettle while you are straining the rest of the large batch. Add the citric acid and salt to each jar and hot water bath. I do your way to make my sauces and catsup. Juice is just liquid. No pulp. I guess it depends if you like your chili a thicker consistency. Juice is the easiest thing to make out of all of them. The sauce and especially catsup or paste is a phenominally long amount of time to cook down for the right consistency. In that case I keep the seeds and skins in and blend them up with the juice.
Everyone has their own way to do things. I do not happen to like red water for juice so I make it the way I do. But for you, your way is correct and vice versa. Thank you for explaining the way you make things. 🙂
It makes no sense to use the juicer step, ridiculous. Why not just put tomatoes in the bullet? You are adding an extra step, juicing then blending then reincorporating it all together
My nutribullet isn't strong enough to chop up everything. So, therefore that is why I have to add the extra step. Like I said in the video, if I had a Vitamix I may not have to do this....
@@dreamstorealityhomestead4647 I guess I see you working hard and appreciate what you are doing, no disrespect meant. It just seems like you are doing double the work. I followed what you did but I kept the juice separate and made sauce out of the pulp seed skins. I bet you could do small fast batches with whole tomatoes directly into the bullet, or use a stick blender(messy). I also love that you just added the stove you needed, who cares what others think =)
